Wesley Sneijder

Watching Cleverley and Ando's performance against City has taken the excitement out of me for this signing. It might come across as knee-jerk but I would love to see Cleverley become our midfield player rather than Sneijder.

It is knee jerk, even without Sneijder they still have Carrick, Fletcher and Giggs to contend with.

I thought Nike pay a certain amount of money to United every year to make and design the shirts for the club and that is it? Same thing as the sponsor putting their name on our shirts every year

I think we should start planning for the 10000th post.

I'd say it belongs to wr8, considering his immense muppeting throughout the summer. He's been absolutely fantastic in muppetry and deserves this honour.

bullshit

United absolutely benefit from shirt sales. the hordes are buying the united crest not the nike logo.

If you think United add their crest and brand to NIKE for free your mad.
Both Parties benefit from shirt sales one way or another.

It's not bullshit at all, the only way United will benefit is by having a strengthened position when it comes to renegotiating our merchandising deal with Nike.

That's not to say we won't make profit by marketing him in other areas but he will have an image rights package that will make a good cut from that.

Whilst Ando and Cleverley had great games against City and in pre-season in general, the season is a very long one where we will need as much quality as possible. We can't expect Cleverley to unlock doors every week and win us important games just yet, just a decent season from him. Sneijder is world class at what he does, he could win games for us that we normally can't quite.

I don't know, but can he actually play in a midfield 2 alongside Carrick where we are going to go 4-4-2 in the majority of our league games? He has 2 DMCs at Inter and Holland to protect him while he drifts forward, and he was basically used on the left at Real

I'd agree. Something meaningful should be said. We need more magnets for example.

I think the mods should delete the thread just so we can see if wr8 explodes.

Cleverly & anderson had brilliant games but lets not forget we should be hoping to have a 60 game season. There is a lot of games & cleverly is too young to say consistent. Plus we do get injuries. We need at least 2 genuine playmakers.

So having sneijder will only be good for us cleverly will have his game time. He basically has to do what chico did last season, make sure saf can't leave him out of the team.

He's earned the right on the 10,000th post to confirm the signing of Wesley Sneijder.

We should tell the clubs to hurry up then, they don't have much time now. Racing against the clock and all that.

Wr8 leaves and breathes this thread, he's the ultimate muppet here and deserves an award.

That's exactly where I have my reservations. I don't think he can personally.

I don't think we are any closer to this than we were yesterday, last week or at any time during the summer, they didn't even mention it on Talkshite this morning and they did mention both Nasri & Modric.

All getting very boring now...lets just get the 10K out of the way shall we?

That's the spirit!

I think SAF is a bit of a tease, we've had a literally the whole summer of Sneijder rumours without anyone from the club really denying it or making direct comments on the saga.

And subsequently this summer Caftards have been drooling over the possibility of a truly world class player joining our ranks, just imagine SAF in his pre match conference this week and makes the following statement "no more signings this year, i am happy with my squad and there is no value in the market, that's it from me".

I hate to think what would happen if Sneijder then joined Shitty-Mass suicide??

"Sneijder staying and 'no chance for Tevez', Inter chief exec Ernesto Paolillo just told me"
From Tariq Panja... some guy on twitter.

But he never categorically said the deal is off, as that would admit something had been discussed, anyhow i recall he would end a sentence by saying "nothing imminent" or "nothing at this moment".

Also, Gill, mentioned last week that if a world class midfielder became available then we would be interested, so again indicating we are in the market for a world class midfielder.

I think the full comments are "at the moment Sneijder is staying", so again there are not against the idea of selling.

I'm inclined to agree with that - young Tom is ready now to play in the 1st team. I'm not saying he is the finished article because, of course, he needs experience. But there's only one way to get that at the top level now he's done his bit in the lower reaches. He's hungry and pretty able and clearly going to be a decent player, if not a top player for us.

I think we should make a big offer for Pigfarmer and tell him you can have raw bacon and gherkins for breakfast in England too.

Thought it was on last night went to bed cock erect and hard all 9 inches, just read the latest news and its like a withered old prune again,no wonder fergie likes to make star players instead of signing them, pre madonas the lot of em

I don't think this signing would be a bad thing for Cleverley. He'll still get games and he'll get to study one of the best in training every day. Wes in the flesh > Iniesta on DVD.

Personally was abit apprehensive about signing Sneijder, due to the serie A angle.. but if Van der Vaart who is a less physically robust player than Wes can hack it in the Prem, then Sneijder ain't going to struggle ala Veron.

Where I stll remain worried is the positional angle of it, a) he could conflict with Rooney's role and b) Cleverley's development and c) would that money be spent better on a more mobile Carrick-esque or a deeper lying mid in general like Modric/Banega/Bastian.

However I was worried about Young, thinking that we were possibly signing one winger too many instead of addressing the midfield but those fears seem to have dispelled with Youngs performances thus far and the fact Nani doesn't have to play on the left (apart from when switching wings during a game) is a big positive. So all in all, signing a world-reknowned midfielder and getting rid of Gibson perhaps isn't something worth moaning or worrying over, just enjoy the ride.

I'm starting to feel by reading Sneijders words that if there has been an unofficial approach then there are some things going on:

1.) 'Unofficial talks' are still going on because an agreement can't be reached on wages.
2.) 'Unofficial talks' are agreed, but we have yet to make an official move through fear of City usurping us.
3.) We do face the possibility of us leaving this one late.

I said I thought the end of the week for a deal, but if there hasn't been any official approach we're quite far away from any conclusion, I feel.
