Thought it was on last night went to bed cock erect and hard all 9 inches, just read the latest news and its like a withered old prune again,no wonder fergie likes to make star players instead of signing them, pre madonas the lot of em

The second half of that was nicer to read than the first.

I don't know, but can he actually play in a midfield 2 alongside Carrick where we are going to go 4-4-2 in the majority of our league games? He has 2 DMCs at Inter and Holland to protect him while he drifts forward, and he was basically used on the left at Real

This gets down to the nitty gritty of my concern. He has never played in a 2 man midfield, and rarely without a specialist DM at least behind him. At Utd he will have neither.

He was used on the wing at Madrid because they could not incorporate him into their midfield, not because he is any good on the wing.

Fergie must be thinking of a 4-3-3 for this season, at least in some games, if he is signing Sneijder. There is no evidence he can perform as part of a 2, and it would be a waste anyway really, as his strengths are suited to playing in advanced areas. It would be like signimg Bale and playing him on the right, players need to play in areas best suited to their particular skillset, playing them in unfamiliar positions not best suited to them can only detract from their overall contribution.

So if Sneijder comes i predict a change in formation to get the best out of him.

He already has a superior footballer in Paul Scholes.

Apart from pre-season, Tom's been away from the club for two and a half years, so it's been a while since he trained with Scholesy on a daily basis, if he has at all. And Sneijder is a much closer match in terms of style than latter year Scholes.

if you look at the last 10 years how many teams have won the champions league playing 4-4-2 - i'd say very very few....

i think it was naive to play that way against barca and potentially next season we could line up a lot better with rooney up top and sneijder behind

we need that versatility especially away from home in the big games

i think having a player of sneijder's ability shouldnt be seen in any way as negative - he would improve any team in the world

if the kids are good enough they will get their games

Agree with all that. We shouldn't restrict ourselves with insisting on a 4-4-2 all the time.

...

but he's never trained with Sneijder.

Ever.

lets sign him first then we can decide where to play him, still think it won"t happen thou.

Football transfer rumours: Wesley Sneijder to Man Utd within 48 hours?

Wesley-Sneijder-007.jpg

Congratulations to Wesley Sneijder, who has signed for Manchester United for the 97th time this summer. The Daily Mirror are reporting that the Internazionale midfielder will seal his latest move to Old Trafford within the next 48 hours. They say that "the two clubs have explored a possible price over the past few weeks through a third party", the old-fangled tactic of actually talking to each other presumably no longer trendy enough.

All that needs to happen now, as with the other 96 transfers, is for Sneijder and United to agree personal terms, a process whose complexity has been exacerbated by Mrs Sneijder's rumoured refusal to go anywhere that does not have a Miss Selfridge.

We tried to firm up the story with our Dutch snout Shex, but he mislaid his will to live during Sneijder's 94th transfer to Old Trafford story and is now rocking back and forth in the foetal position, whispering "for the love of all that is holy, Wesley, please put me out of my misery".

Sneijder was once for sale at football's hippest summer boutique, the Real Madrid Rubbish Dump, and this year Lassana Diarra is similarly available. Real have dropped their asking price from £20m to £15m, which means that north London should soon have a legalised thief in Diarra, one of modern football's most effective pickpockets and playbreakers (we're not stereotyping – look at Darren Fletcher!). For the second time in his career, Harry Redknapp is keen to sign the man who thinks it's a good idea to have "Lass" on the back of a shirt.

Just lock it at 9999 and then re-open it for wr8 on the day that the deal is announced

maybe lets have a big count down for that. lets have 10 biggest muppets on this thread to count from 10 to 1 , with 1 being 9999th post and then wr8 makes it 10k. anyone who post smth to interrupt the count or try to steal the 10k post should be punished by ip ban and acc deletion, so noone would dare it.

I am 100% trying to steal the 10,000th post.

dude come on, we have 1 chance only to make it right. The thread started 15th June 2009, 11:08 and since when everything what was posted here lead to this day this moment, the 10k post and Sneijder signing for United. If you screw the 10k post, you may kill the transfer as well.

I'm going for the 10k post too. It's gonna be an absolute free for all. Every man for himself.

Paolillo: ''AT THIS moment it looks like Sneijder will stay, he is happy in Milan. It is impossible for us IN THIS MOMENT to buy Tevez."

It's not bullshit at all, the only way United will benefit is by having a strengthened position when it comes to renegotiating our merchandising deal with Nike.

That's not to say we won't make profit by marketing him in other areas but he will have an image rights package that will make a good cut from that.

Are you talking about the player or the shirts?

I'm simply talking about united replica kits and merchandise
Nike pay monstrous fees evey year for the rights to associate their merchandise with united

Nike association with united is mutually beneficial to both parties.
United make money on every shirt sold, as do Nike.
I could never be sure of the exact percentage dividend but the sponsorship fee is a separate entity, it's like a fee to allow them to be part ofthe united brand. Both parties profit from Shirt sales and other merchandise sales.

Do you really think the club would be so foolish to allow nike to pay a once off fee per year and then cream 100s of millions profit globally on the united brand. Not a hope. The club has all the aces when it comes to sportswear sponsorship , it's whoever pays the most and shares the most profit

If it wasn't Nike it'd be another brand

Every day one new newspaper puts fuel to this transfer rumour, I guess its just a way of getting extra hits on a week day.

Yep. Funny how that Gazzetta story about Sneijder definitely signing for City has just been, well, forgotten...at least by Gazzetta. ;)
