i believe the man is speaking on transfer outside the premier league. a transfer from continental europe. Rooney, and Berba both were EPL player before United signed them
Rooney was very young and would not have been looked upon as a world class player.
Tevez we never actually signed and at the time also was not looked upon as WC
Berbatov has never been World Class. I doubt the transfer raised much of a stir in Spain and Italy.
Veron was WC and was the finished article. It was a huge signing for us at the time.
When we were in for them lot, have they won a european cup and were they one of the key players of a team that went to the world cup final? Did we have to prise any of those away from a truly big club?
Rooney was an up and coming top talent from Everton, Tevez did very well at West Ham fighting off relegation and Berbatov was a very good player at Tottenham... we made them into bigger names. This also applies to Ferdinand, Ruud and whoever.
Sneijder is far more established and already playing for a far bigger club (which normally means they're harder to get... player already playing champions league and king of their league, the big clubs are far more powerful as well) than any of them were at the time. We don't do many of these type of signings.

Veron was considered one of the very best players in the world when we got him . Berbatov as good as he was at Spurs, wasnt anywhere near that stature.

Transfer News Centre on twitter says that Sneijder will fly into Manchester tomorrow and will have signed by Monday. Personal terms agreed with players representatives apparently.
