This saga is far from over, of course Gasperini have to say that to the press, if its a deal in the making, it could end up with no agreement or a agreement and then its better to act as normal to a conclution is made.
Why I don't think Sneijder is the right player for us
1) Need to build the side around him.
2) He has had a number of injuries.
3) He is 27
4) Costing way too much.
So if all this bollocks is true, then why not pick him to play on Saturday in the Super Cup?
He need to keep his fitness levels up and complete a full pre-season, whether its for them or us. A proper competitive match wouldn't be such a bad idea.
If he comes to us, we want him ready & raring to go...
Well said Mockney, the age argument is crap.
However Rodney and Wesleys Magical Musical Mystery Machine would be a great dutch-synth prog pop group.
Sneijder is no Xavi.
I'm not going to get into this "will we wont we" thing cos you lot are all crazy gluttons for punishment, but I would like to take issue with this recurring "He's 27" thing...
When did football become so ageist?...And against people in their mid fecking 20s!!...Jesus. Muppetry overload.
For a start he's not a winger, or a speedy off the shoulder striker so his pace diminishing isn't a problem whatsoever. Generally speaking only these players have a peak age below their mid-twenties, and he's not one of them.
Secondly - and I know this is a loaded and convenient example, but I'm going to go with it anyway - would you rather have Zinedine Zidane before he was 27, or after he was 27?...And let me remind you that at 27, he'd only just signed for Juventus.
Incidentally, Paul Scholes was 27 in 2001. If we sign someone that gets us going on 10 years of similar service, I could've give a flying monkey dung about re-sale value.
Unless you're worried he's about to take up music, there's really no need to worry that he's 27.
To be totally fair, Xavi WAS indeed Xavi even before he was 27.

I have it on good authority that the move is only being held up by United's continued confusion regarding Wesley's father. Or to be more precise, Wesley's fathers name, Barry.
It's just mindblowing, Barry Sneijder. WTF? Gill think it's an elaborate Nigerian rouse to scam money out of the Glazers.
I echo Mockney's 27 comments... as in his comments about the age 27, not 27 of his comments... that would be madness, he comes out with all sorts of shit.
Players traditionally peaked between about 27 and 31, and if anything now they last quite a bit longer. He may not last as long as Scholes, but he should last four or five years at his peak and a few years more when he can do a job. feck the resale value, we badly need a fecking midfielder, and he's a terrific one who's right in his prime.

Yes but we're not disputing that Xavi was Xavi before he was 27. We're disputing that Xavi was not the same Xavi he was today. In that his Xavi has been personified by more Xaviness and that has created the Xavi that we see acting as Xavi for Barcelona and Spain. Of course with pre 27 Xavi, Xavi could not be the Xavi now so it begs to question, whether Xavi is any different to the Xavi from before 27.

Wesley Sneijder the Blood-red prince?
I fully agree with everything you said but Zidane was actually barely 24 when he signed for Juventus.![]()
The mere word 'Schweinsteiger' got me so sexually excited that when I tried to log in to post this comment my brain went awry and instead of 'Plechazunga' I typed 'Portuguese', and then by the time I'd resubmitted it I'd forgotten what I was going to say.
Wesley Sneijder and the Muppet of Eire.

Euro '96... Juve got Zidane, we got Poborsky...Damn, you're right...I was thinking of the 98 WC wasn't I?
Either way I'm right, by Gowdin, post-27 Zizou was a better player - for quite a considerable time - than pre-27 Zizou.
