Wesley Sneijder

Inter claims not to know of any accepted bid, saga drag on.

I don't think he'd have been taken on tour to China had the deal been imminent. I reckon only thing happening at the moment is people close Inter, and player accepting this transfer could happen. Clearing the way for further talks at higher levels over the coming weeks.

Well that's a given, isn't it? Otherwise it suggests Fergie is buying players he doesn't feel are right for us. But surely we, as supporters, get to have an opinion, whether or not it tallies with what Fergie thinks. He's been wrong befroe (far, far less often than supporters, obviously).

Surely Fergie has earned our trust to the extent that we at least wait and see before deciding that signing Sneijder would be a huge error?

Imagine our first 11 with Sneijder. Fecking hell, genuinely means we'd have one of a top 3 in the world player in each major position:

2: Ferdinand/Vidic at CB
1: Sneijder in Midfield (With Anderson potentially in the top 10)
1: Rooney upfront. (With Hernandez probably in the top 10/15 likewise Berbatov)

Don't think Anderson is anywhere near the top 10 midfielders in the world yet. He doesn't even travel with the Brazil squad, and yet they take Lucas.

What on earth are you talking about? I could name you 20+ midfielders comfortably better than Anderson.

And it's even debatable if Rooney is amoungst the top 3 strikers in the world.

I don't think trusting him equates to thinking he's infallible or being unwilling to express any sort of opinion until we're conclusively proven right. It somewhat reduces this place to someone quoting Fergie and the rest of us replying with 'This'.

Unfortunately on here when you say anything remotely negative people accuse you of being a doom and gloom merchant.

Well, if you read it, you'd see it said potentially. As in, he could potentially be in the top 10 in the world.

And Rooney is probably amongst the top 5 players in the world, so he's comfortably up there amongst the top 3 strikers in my opinion.

Who are the three strikers better than Rooney then?

Messi and Ronaldo can hardly be counted as strikers.

They could be. Yes their actual position is up for debate, but more often than not they're the most furthers forward player in their team, and scored 106 goals between them last season.

Eto'o is not better than Rooney any more.

They shouldn't be strictly counted as strikers. When I think of strikers, I think of Tevez, Villa, Torres, Eto'o out of whom Rooney is better.

if rooney is a striker then so are they.....strikers.....and i qoute you on the use of that word should be judged purley on goals in my opinion....therefore rooney doesnt score anywhere near enough to be considered on of the best strikers in the world.

Scrolling down the page I see Messi, Ronaldo, Eto'o, Rooney. What the hell have you all done?

We'll get him for 30+ million, he'll fail and that will be the end of Fergie spending big on established players.

Well that's your opinion. Eto'o, Villa, Torres*, Tevez and Rooney are all at the same level IMO.

*I mean Torres on form, not this numpty at Chelsea.

Anyway, we've gone way off topic.

That's because he is.

Better than Drogba at his best and Eto'o?

Torres right now obviously not but a few season ago surely you would have rated him a bit higher too.

I would say he is in top 5-7 (if you do include messi and Ronaldo).

Anderson top 10? You probably meant in the future if he develops properly which he hasn't done as of yet, because at this moment there might be about 50 midfielders better than him.

I guess that's why he wrote POTENTIALLY

I'm not even sure Anderson has potential to be top 10, besides from my understanding (although my English isn't THAT good) potentially might also have a present context.

sneijder is on tour in china with inter now isn't it, this will just keep dragging on.

We will have failed as transfer muppets if this thread isn't at 10,000 posts by the time this saga ends. Everyone has to do their bit.

I really don't like signing players this late in the window. Would much rather sign them earlier and have them embed themselves in the team during pre-season. If we do end up getting him we're going to have to use league games to experiment with the way we use him and Rooney.

Or look at it this way.

Fergie's first 30M transfer worked out brilliantly, he's still an important player. His second 30M transfer hasn't been such a huge success, he's been OK but not much more. So the next 30M transfer is bound to be brilliant again. Right? RIGHT?

Berbatov's Fergie's first 30M transfer.

If you want to include Ferdinand [29M) you might as well include Veron (28,1M).

Opta Sports
92 - Wayne Rooney has scored (61) or assisted (31) 91 goals in the PL since 2007/08; more than any other player.

Shite player who'll never be in the Top 3 strikers in the world though.

Rooney is among the top strikers in the world. Whether that is among 2-3 others or ten is difficult to say.

If only there were some sort of Rooney or Top Strikers thread where you lot could discuss this.

To swing this one back on topic: according to Futebol Finance, Sneijder's the 86th best paid player in the world and earns around £75k (€83k) a week.
