We're trialling a new newbie system

It's good to see new people. So these posters are competing with each other ? They have some limited daily number of posts?

1 like = 5 mains posts per day
5 likes = 10 mains posts per day (and can embed media/links)
8 likes = 20 mains posts per day (and can create threads, newbie access removed)
10 likes = promoted

Thanks. Those with 8 are in a kind of limbo , although 20 posts are more than enough for a day

Christ. This has been an utter failure already. So much shite to wade through.

Honestly I think there's been a few stand out ones so far which has been great, but also if new members and full members weren't distinguished by their taglines I reckon you'd be hard pushed to tell which poor posts were by newbies and which were from full members.

Agree that there's been a few standouts. I'd say the ratio of good to poor posts is a lot worse with the newbies though. Maybe they're just posting in the threads I read...

Agreed there are a few standouts but there are stinking up more than a few threads at the moment.

This must be why I've seen a few posts that remind me of the United Facebook page.

Wasn't this changed so they still have access to newbie forum but can't create threads? Or did I understand it wrong?

I had access to both Newbies and Mains FF (with 20 posts daily limit) when I was on 8 likes. Access to Newbies was lost only after reaching 10 likes, which provides full promotion status. I didn't try creating any threads though

The quality will balance out over time. At the moment we have given out likes willy nilly to ensure that there are enough testers of the new system. Eventually only those who actually deserve a like will get one.

I agree. I also think since this new system has come in there has been overall drop in the quality of posts. Just posting for the sake of posting. I can't recall the last time I gave someone a "good post".

And this.

Also "1 like = 5 mains posts per day" definitely needs to be revisited. Anyone can put together one good post.

Yes, I understood this was how things now worked. It has had some tweaks, which is the whole point of a trial.

I can understand long-standing FF posters noticing a difference, but as Big-Red says, things will become more settled over time.

5 posts isn't far off full access (I think my average used to be 1.5 posts per day, but this has probably soared since starting full time work ), but with the added downside that they'll be unlikely to get into any worthwhile discussion so the posts will be extra crappy.

As Penna said, this is why we're trialling it. We need to see it in action, assess what works, what doesn't, tweak and repeat.

If someone is posting crap, report it (the 'Report' link in the top right corner of every post). The modmins and scouts can't be everywhere and things do get missed, so we need everyone's help.

Would this post from the Phil Jones thread be crap enough to report?
Keep let's see him under mourinho. Tbh he injured a lot because he is stupid. He do a lot of 50:50 challenge that makes him injury.

In his prime Jones make bale and ronaldo his bitch when he have a job to man Mark them.

How has the rate of sign ups per day / week been whilst this has gone on?

Likewise...

The rate of accounts becoming abandoned?
General content ratios for the periods etc?
Engagement per newbie main thread post - is that fluctuating or trailing off etc?

Any interesting changes?

Haven't looked into it yet as we're still very early into the trial with a decent number of newbies. But quite a number of lurkers have started posting again.

Posts per day has been gradually going up since 3rd June but might be related to the Euros starting tomorrow.

So, in case anyone's interested, I went from 5 likes and mains access (at 10 posts a day) to 10 likes and fully promoted in less than a day.

I could pretend I'm saying this because it is something you guys may want to consider and mull over as to whether that is too quick a promotion or not and if this is a common phenomenon or not, but really I'm just boasting.

yeah we're looking into how you got promoted as we speak. Full inquest to find those responsible.

Dont worry mate, the record of fastest promotion has long been taken. The trick is to sign up on a key Manchester United news day with a username of latest arrival.

900 souls, was it?

The old saying "it takes all sorts" does spring to mind. Some of these boys (they can't possibly be girls) aren't what I would call - let's see - ace posters. Not quite ace, you could say.

https://www.redcafe.net/threads/dream-signings.418404/

This thread. What even is it? There's people with 12 posts replying. I've never seen anything so newbie since the newbs.

These threads are traps. Useless threads.

The idea is to discuss 'philosophically' the meaning of the word 'dream'.

Similar thread with 'experience'.

and the holidays I guess

If only it was a trap for who not to promote.

The system will obviously see some newbies posting shit but the like system ensures that they get weeded out anyways.

That said, I also believe the expectations in terms of quality has been a bit high for the newbies. It's still much more relaxed now but earlier, it needed to be a really good post to get 1 like. And considering the number of newbies that are there many such posts would get missed.

Also, if there wasn't a blue tag highlighting them and the post count being visible to judge them from, you'd find it hard to know at times whether a terrible post came from a newbie or a mains poster. ;)

The 1 like to get 5 posts is there so that they can discuss in the mains and the mains scouts can give them likes. That 1 like is just for the sake of it to get them into the trial basically. For instance, even their 1st post introducing themselves in the newbie forum is getting liked to push them into it.

Reported this crappy post from someone with 200 posts, but was told it doesn't count as crappy enough?

I can't believe this made it as a thread. I will make one like
"England's Pepsi shirt"
or
"Dele Alli's beautiful first touch"
Or...
"Walker was dangerous there"

The reply isn't even relevant considering the thread, and deffo has an air of United Facebook page about it.

Soooo now I don't what is considered crappy.

The fact that I don't have more than 200 hundred posts makes you think I 'm going to post things like this all the time and maybe makes you suspicious against me. (and other noobs)
Maybe it's a little bit humorous for me but a little bit erratic for someone else.
But man, I ve seen much worse in the forums.
Anyway, trust the noobs and the new system and you will see some good posters. Maybe I am one of the possible good posters but I sure am pretty experienced to know this is not offensive, it's humor.

Just from reading the new system rules it seems it might calm down a bit once the initial trialists are weeded out, leaving only those who have actually earned the required likes up here.

Just a poor post, meant with humour or not, because it didn't really fit as a response to the op. There's a tonne of bad posts in the FFs at the moment with the new system and we were told to report them. I'm sure you're a good poster and it's not a majorly terrible post in itself, but with all the others (from posters with similar post counts) it becomes a bit annoying. No harm meant

I don't think there's been a noticeable dip in the FFs at all, in fact I would argue it's slightly the opposite.

I think perhaps some mains posters bear a grudge regarding what may appear as much more lax rules. I believe I had a thousand or more posts before I was promoted and it really was a struggle at times.

A larger problem than perhaps a handful of poor or ill construed posts from trialists is the general nonsense posted day and daily by mains members stagnating and forgetting the rules and advice that ever got them promoted in the first place.

Merely my opinion.

No grudge on my end. There's some good convo with the new guys, but there's been some turd stuff too. Thought the point of the newbie system was not to bring that to the mains.

When I posted thread on footballers' haircuts, some said it's not a good post, like "oh, the noob wanted to post something". Well, I saw people commenting and having a laugh along with me. In the other hand, a thread on short corners can only be ignored. But making a humorous comment on this situation is a bad post?

I mean, many full members are suspicious. Just calm down and trust the new thing. Let's see how it goes. It's very fresh.
Personally, I think my main problem is that english is not my native language, rather than that I would attack somebody and write nonsense all the time.

I have to agree with this one, 100%. I feel I was laughed and attacked in the mains but I never gave a feck.

There's nothing to calm down about

Your comment in the short corners thread made no sense, and not in language barrier kinda way. There's been quite a few posts of similar ilk recently because of the new system. Not a big deal really, but it's frustrating a few people as seen in this thread.
