We're trialling a new newbie system

Old system was beyond broken. We've got years worth of stats showing that and the number of promotees was low with the vast majority leaving/not posting past one or two posts. There needs to be changes and there will continue to be based on feedback. Everyone is being listened to.

Damo, do the Newbies in trial lose access to posting in Mains FF if their posts don't seem to be high quality or will they continue to have access (with appropriate post limit) until they reach 10 likes? Also, do they get a stern warning and pushed back to Newbies for transgressions or do they get banned straight away similar to Full Members? Noticed a fair few posters banned recently who I remember as Newbies a few days ago. I'd prefer it if they were thrown back to Newbies and warned (or suggested) to improve their quality if they want to get promoted; instead of getting banned straight away. Newbie forum is expected to be of lesser quality overall compared to Mains and I hope they get a chance to look back on their posts and improve instead of getting banned. Shouldn't be judged to the same standards as Full Members imho.

As someone who got promoted to Mains through this system, appreciate all the work you guys (mods, scouts, bots) do.

As they're getting a much bigger chance to get promoted, bannings will be swifter too. That's the best way this works. No point sending a shit poster back to the newbies.

Low blow this @Damien :p

Anyone else feel like some of the newbies are overdoing their posts in the mains? Some of their jokes and/or 'clever' posts seem a bit like they're desperate to get more likes.

I guess that's exactly what they are trying to do. The newbie forum effectively requires people to post in a bit of an over-the-top way to get noticed/liked, so I think it's reasonable to expect them to post in exactly the same style given partial access to the mains.

Feels a bit like the kids have been let loose sometimes. Rather than the manchilds, like the good old days.

Most of the time I can't tell the difference between the newbies and the mains posters to be honest. Especially in the football forums.

Also, I know it's a settling in period for the new system, but could the mass amount of new posters being introduced be adversely affecting the community feel? That was one of the best things about the mains IMO.
Not trying to pick holes or anything, I know I'm sounding like a moany bastid.

Newbies are like Immigrants. The come here, make our posts and expect likes on top of it and finally try to become mainers permanently. This is getting ridiculous. I'm special. Mains in special. Go to Poland, ya newbie scum!

;) Jus kidding!

Don't worry - we voted out, they'll all be gone soon.

Agreed, I don't want a to remove newbies completely, some of my best friends are newbies, but I feel there needs to be some kind of point based system before we allow them into the mains.

Build a wall to keep them away from the mains, and make them pay for it!

Keep the Newbies far away from the Main. They have to prove themselves and earn the right to post among elites

We should start a petition to get this new Newbie system removed, they ought to know that even posting once on the Main is not a right but a privilege that we elites have earned with time and maturity.

It's funny because he said "we elites," like he is referring to himself as one of the elites.

Urghh.

I seriously think the thieves were Manchester United fans who seriously do not like the way he has been performing lately.

Maybe another crappy joke, but I keep seeing stuff around about this quality. The mains is suffering now I think.

I agree. Not sure if it's because of the Newbie posts (don't think so if I'm honest, but I haven't been looking), but every other football discussion thread seems to consist more of posters trying to make jokes, post memes, and general low-effort posts instead of football discussion.

It's either been worse this summer than previous summers, or it's me getting grumpier with time, since I've never had any opinion on the general quality of threads before.

The overall quality of posting has definitely gone down. The Pogba thread is just an embarrassment. In fact, worse than that; it's just boring.

The posts are pretty much the same across the board in that thread, though (not just newbies, to be fair).

I've talked about this before with Niall, and although I'm fine with newbs posting in the mains, it just seems a lot of shit posters are slipping though seeing as you only need 4 likes to regularly post on the mains.

It also seems at times that there's as many newbs posting as there are full members! Up the likes needed to post 5 posts a day in the mains to 6, then 10 being 8 or 9. A lot of main posters don't post anywhere near 10 posts a day, so why do newbs get that priveledge with 4/5 (is that the number?) likes? The only difference seems to be it says "new" instead of "full" member!

Saw some newbie fella the other day with terrible English, putting smiley faces after each sentence?! Smiley faces with a fecking space too, like this : )

That stuff probably gets them negative reps (or a warning), though.

I agree what people are saying about a dip in quality in the football forums, but I just wouldn't agree that it's evident in that Pogba thread, as most of the top posters in that thread are full members. I think because new members stand out more that they carry a bit of the burden in that thread, as it's all mostly terrible. Also, I've noticed a lot of good newbies. There are obviously crap posters too, but hopefully they all get banned, or never promoted. The trial is good in that respect, because it sorts out which posters are obvious candidates for promotion and which ones should stay in the newbies.

I think that's been the thing that bothered me too; the appalling English and grammar of a lot of the newbies. It just diminishes the tone of a thread.

There has never been a transfer "saga" thread that isn't embarassing. Don't know if that has anything to do with the newbs being here.

All the newbies who have 4 likes get full access to match day threads with no restrictions on number of posts. This 4 "likes" system is only for match day forum, which was there last season too, to be fair. Newbies with even one "like" can be chosen (at random) as part of the trialing system where they get access to post in football forums. Number of posts allowed per day is based on number of likes, as per Niall's OP. Since newbies are getting fast tracked to Mains by getting access much easier than earlier, they are also expected to be adhering to higher standards (compared to newbie forums) too.

Saying that, transfer forum is not the best place to objectively judge the quality of the posts imo. Once the football season starts maybe we'll see more high quality posts with the lower ones weeded out fairly quickly.

The Pogba thread should be used as an example. The travesty and abomination that it is.

I thought anyone, including all newbs, were allowed in the match day section. Then with 4 likes you're allowed a certain amount of posts a day, then with 6 even more. I should probably read the OP again!

But anyway, my point is that a lot of illiterate shite is on the mains at the moment.

The fact is the Newbie system wasn't working. It just wasn't. I'd prefer just to have more mods, scrap the whole system completely and ban those who are posting shit. Maybe stop sign ups during key weeks (against rivals or if we go out of a cup!)

The Pogba thread is absolutely horrific, but it is not primarily driven by newbies. They have merely contributed to the heady mix of circular arguments, weak "jokes", stupid questions to which the answers are either obvious or impossible to answer, increasingly futile attempts by mods to control the riot, clever meta observations on the thread and quips about muppets and masturbation. Yes, they've probably increased the % of puerile and illiterate teenage wailing spurted therein, but it's experienced posters who are the driving force of the productionised and metronomic posting of bollocks and are certainly the primary proud exponents of "let's get to 10000 posts" (edit: it's a 1000 pages isn't it? Who cares) feckwittery.
