Weird feelings of football

Nothing important ever happens during first half's injury time

Football managers can't see the wood for the trees.

It doesn't matter who the manager is, they'll find some way of ignoring the obvious to play their old favourites or some left field idea.

Swear to God, didnt watch it live and always had this feeling that it happened much earlier than that.

Every former United captain under SAF became or will become a manager at some point.

Ballack never missed a penalty.

Avram Grant disappeared from the face of the earth after the 2008 CL final. He never went to manage P'tsmouth and West Ham afterwards.

Except for the 1999 CL final, every time we played Bayern we lost, and every loss was due to away goals.

United are the only English team that beats Italian teams on Italian soil. On a similar note, United never beats Spanish teams on Spanish soil.

most maligned players in redcafe matchday threads usually go on to score later in the same game

For about the last ten years, Buffon has been 38 years old and every time a WC or Euros comes around, he's still there as Italy's undisputed number 1 Goalkeeper. Then there's a mention of whether he should still carry on and whether its time he retired as he's too old.

Then another two years pass by til the next tournament and nothings changed..

He's still there as Italy's undisputed first choice goalkeeper, and he's still 38 years old..

Football (and footballers) has been influenced by FIFA and other console/computer games to become slicker but less gritty.

Switzerland have never been involved in an entertaining game.

In the last 20 years other than Ronaldo Portugal haven't produced a half decent striker

So so true he'll still be playing in 20 years time. And he'll still look exactly the same. He'll probably still be amazing too........

Pauleta. Otherwise, Nuno Gomes wasn't ridiculous.

I apologise in advance if it feels like a rant. I feel like African players are criminally underrated just because they are african and people just use the "AFCON every two years" line as an excuse. Examples: 30m for Bailly is too much but 50-60m for Stones, Otamendi (last Year) or La porte is a bargain. 30m for mane is too much but lets break the bank for Kane or Barkley( a few seasons ago). Apparently Mahrez needs one more season to prove himself, but Ali is already a star. Schneiderlin for 24m is a bargain but Wanyama for 11m ,not so much.

Shaqiri is shorter than 5'7" and is really a dwarf

Didn't everyone agree Wanyama was cheap? Last time I checked the thread most people were surprised Southampton would sell for less than they bought?

Actually, being from kenya, I have been reading what people say about the move on different forums and quite a significant amount of people don't rate him.

Most of those are examples of non-British player vs British player, and hence the issue there is not so much being African but the fact that English talent is scarce and therefore attracts a premium. Plus the obvious attention of the English press.

Wales will not qualify for another tournament for another fifty years and then they will make the quarter finals again.

The Portuguese squad always has a number of players who you'd swear had retired years ago who inevitably reappear come international tournament time: Nuno Gomes, Helder Postiga, Ricardo Carvalho, Ricardo Queresma...

England will go out to France because England cannot beat any of the big international teams in a major tournament.

Miroslav Klose always seemed to disappear off the face of the earth when he wasn't playing for Germany, only to magically reemerge for the next tournament.

Mario Gomez hasn't kicked a football for four years and is still the best striker in the tournament.

Romero is the only goalie in the world to play with a short sleeved jersey. All the other goalies play with long sleeves.

Goalies that wear pants are usually shit at taking goal kicks.

The first requirement to be a goalie for the USMNT is you have to be bald and you must play for a midtable PL club at some point in your career.

For it to be a proper Portugal team, you have to be able to say "well, he had all the talent in the world, but never reached his potential" to about 70% of their squad. The rest are the next bunch of potentials, and Ronaldo.
