Weghorst or Ronaldo?

Yeah but surely you don't believe that would've continued all year ? Look at Rashford early season vs after the WC. Form does go and return for most players. This is of course unrelated to the silliness that transpired in the lead up to and during the Morgan interview. At that point, most understand he had to go.
No he would have probably detreated more. The difference with Rashford and Ronaldo is that one is in or approaching his prime years as a footballer and the other has come to the end of his top flight career. The fact that no one else wanted him after the interview was not because he did the interview but because no one else wanted him.
Rashford scored a damn sight more than Ronaldo before the World Cup. Yes he kicked on afterwards but still scored some big goals in the period leading up to the World Cup, including 2 against Arsenal and 1 against Liverpool.

People are now making this as Wout vs Ronaldo ? Seriously? Thought Piers Morgan was trolling but can't believe sky actually had a discussion on it.

For starters, Wout isn't a replacement for Ronaldo. We would get one in summer but Wout was just brought as a backup option to cover any injuries. Just because both happened on the same window doesn't mean it's a direct replacement.

Actually, it's a fair debate who's been worse. They're far closer to each other than either of them is to anyone else who's played striker for United this season.

It's kind of a, what do you want more a poke in the eye or a kick in the nuts. The answer is obviously neither.

I’m sure Ronaldo would have scored more than 0 league goals in 2023 but so would Greenwood and I don’t miss either of them. Awful people.

I think I would go for the eye poke

By not having to move in with them I would still have preferred any of them around, than the big dutch clumsy man.

One would have scored goals, but had a negative impact on the camp and the way we play (which is arguably crap at the moment anyway) and one doesn't score goals and doesn't make much difference to the way we play other than offering nothing as a threat.

Both are detrimental to the cause, but one was a bigger problem overall than the other considering they will be gone in the Summer anyway.

There must be an academy striker we can bung up front that offers more that Weghorst.

Haven’t literally all charges been dropped against the latter player…?

Apologies if I’m missing something.
Gerrard was never convicted for that nightclub assault, what's your point?

Sorry, didn’t Gerrard’s case actually get to the level of going to court?

Whereas the player mentioned earlier has had all charges against them dropped completely.

Again, apologies if I’m missing something or this is incorrect.

Weghorst is the worst striker in the prem. No pace, no first touch, no vision, slow, can't even win a header. But he jogs arround at 3/4 pace better than anyone I've seen.

Upgrading our striker has to be ETH's top summer priority.

I am so glad our great manager ETH forced Ronaldo out. With he's 24 goals last season in a broken team, he had to go. But at least we had a good replacement in Weghorst, so far he's scored 2 in all competitions. The manager handled that situation like a boss. Good of him to set he's fellow countryman up with a nice retirement fund though.

Before the season even started Ronaldo had his agent flying everywhere over Europe trying to find a club to sign him, while he himself refused to go on the preseason to try to force a move. ETH regularly said that he wanted Ronaldo to stay, but it was generally felt that he'd happily let him go if any buyers came forward. But guess what? Nobody wanted him. Not a single club. Ronaldo ended up having no choice but to come back and play for us, at which time he was utterly dreadful. His performances were so bad ETH did the right thing in only bringing him off the bench in the league, but started him in Europe where I'm sure the hope was he'd play himself into form. It didn't work, as he continued being shit. It should be worth noting that pretty much the entire fanbase were unhappy because it was felt he was playing too much considering how terrible he was. Ronaldo threw his toys out of the pram even more, refusing to come off the bench, then running to the idiotic Piers Morgan and attacked the manager and the club. The club then released him so he was available for free but still no club in Europe wanted him, something Ronaldo found so unbelievable he sacked his agent who'd looked after him for decades. He went slinking off to Saudia Arabia with his tail between his legs, where from all accounts he's struggled even at that level and has made his new club worse.

But yes, poor old Ronaldo desperately wanted to stay and it was bad old ETH who 'forced him out'.

It's unbelievable that Cristiano Ronaldo still has fanboys among the United base. How many times does he have to shit on us before some people stop calling it chocolate?

You are mistaken, this has nothing to do with being a fanboy and everything to do with the fact that Ronaldo at 55 years old is a better fotballer than Wout Weghorst, he's replacement.

The only one mistaken here is you who thinks that Weghorst is his replacement.

They are just Ronaldo fans. He publicly humiliated the club but the fanboys wont care about that.

On the individual level maybe (even that was debatable considering how bad he was this season), but do you actually think Rashford would have scored as many as he has with Ronaldo in the team? Ronaldo wasn't only absolutely terrible on the pitch, he wasn't only causing huge issues for the club as a whole and trying to destroy the authority of the manager in front of the team, when he did play he also forced our entire team to be set up to feed him chances which he was no longer good enough to finish.

Also, what has what you said here got to do with you blaming ETH for 'forcing him out' despite it being blatantly obvious that it was Ronaldo who forced himself out? Or are you just hitting out because your idol was finished at the top level and then screwed himself over and you can't accept that so it has to be someone else's fault?

He absolutely was, we wouldn't have signed weghorst if we still had Ronaldo, and he plays in the same position so he definitely is his replacement.

However our best spell came when neither was playing, the run between just before the world cup and when weghorst started playing so I'd say both weren't ideal at this point. Ronaldo's 1 premier league goal against Everton that won 3 points probably puts him slightly ahead of weghorst but we were better with neither up front this year

He isn't, Ronaldo's replacement(First choice striker) will arrive in the summer. Weghorst was just a body brought in. We have had this discussion before so I'm not bothered to do it again. Feel free to believe what you like.

Just because a replacement is short term doesn't mean they aren't a replacement

Again, feel free to believe whatever you feel like.

Would weghorst have been signed if Ronaldo hadn't left? If not then he's replacing him in our squad for this season. Like if our goalkeeper was injured and we had to make an emergency loan, the player we brought in would be the replacement for this season

Again, feel free to believe whatever you feel like.

You're correct, he isn't his replacement, he's an emergency loan. Ronaldo quit his job and badly let down a club he pretended to care about, Weghost is a temp. There has not been an opportunity to sign a replacement yet.

Exactly. He isn't even a replacement for Cavani or Greenwood. Essentially we lost 3 forwards and didn't do anything to replace even one of those. We relied on Ronaldo this season but the self obsessed diva decided to make it about himself rather than help the team.

An emergency loan is a replacement just a short term one, same way sabitzer was a short term replacement for eriksen, the wprd emergency should be a hint, a player leaving or being insured has caused an emergency and a result we have to bring in a temporary replacement

Addressing the teams mentality was and still is a priority, however, one of the first hurdles for this was taking charge of the dressing room. Something that would have been very difficult with the likes of Pogba and Ronaldo stinking the place out.
Love Ronaldo and loved his 21/22 swansong but that's where it should have ended.

Ronaldo's ego was writing cheques his body couldn't cash, (by comparison) Weghorst has no ego...

I can sure you Ronaldo is not my idol and never has been. This is simply a comparison between Ronaldo and he's replacement Weghorst as footballers. I don't even like Ronaldo and I wanted him gone, but to get rid of him and not have a backup plan at all, is absurd. We then recruited a washed up Burnley forward because he was a friend of the manager, and not only that, we doubled his wages. And to be fair, it's not even Weghorst fault this happened, anyone in his position would jump at the opportunity. The fault lies with EtH, like so many other problems that have come from his stupid decisions and clueless managing of the squad.

So you are suggesting that when Ronaldo publicly shat at Utd, we should have still kept him. You're suggesting that we should have still employed him after he said that he doesn't respect the manager. Are you suggesting that we should have allowed the negativity to propagate within the dressing room? Are you suggesting that ETH should have kept playing him even when we played better without him?

Ronaldo forced himself out. He very well knew what he was doing with that interview.

Alot of questions but not alot of sene made. Ronaldo made the interview when he was being benched for inferior players, he wanted out because he was not in EtH plans. Dumb decision of EtH was letting Ronaldo know he would not be playing first choice before the season started. After the interview and the treatment Ronaldo received ahead of it, there was obviously no going back.

Who was that inferior player?

Between two non-scoring players, of which one is a hard working team player while the other a disruptive egotistical has been with no legs who shat all over us?

How is this a question?

'Weghorst was signed because he's a friend of Ten Hag' has been mentioned a few times recently. Where's this actually come from?

Feels like you're putting a lot of effort into petty semantics. Enjoy that.

I think it's just because they're both Dutch, though the fact that weghorst keeps playing suggests he has some incriminating photos of ten hag or something, cos it defies any other explanation

No, its other posters trying to pretend the player we signed to replace Ronaldo wasn't his replacement

What happens if we sign him permanently in the summer and no other striker, is he then Ronaldo's replacement, and until we decide one way or another he's Schrodinger's replacement?

The only one mistaken here is you who thinks that Weghorst is his replacement.

You're right. Weghorst is replacing Greenwood and Ronaldo.

Why are fans so bent up on this being ETHs decision rather than the fact the Glazers refused to do a proper deal? Even if you're looking at just a loan...Felix was available in the same window.
