Weghorst or Ronaldo?

You're right. Weghorst is replacing Greenwood and Ronaldo.

Why are fans so bent up on this being ETHs decision rather than the fact the Glazers refused to do a proper deal? Even if you're looking at just a loan...Felix was available in the same window.

It was the Glazers decision not to spend even a few million and get someone like felix, but it's ten hag's decision to inexplicably keep playing him when there must be one of the under 21s who's a better player, or any other reserve, because he's absolutely awful

Who in the under 21s steps up?

ETH has given youth players a chance when it was warranted. If he hasn't done so with a striker and persists with Weghorst - which by the way he has not and only did while Martial was injured or not fully fit - then that youth player is not ready and we as outsiders do not know better.

When ronaldo left and before weghost joined we won 6 out of 6 then we started playing weghorst every game and won 3 out of the next 9, including one draw against Leeds where we were 2-0 with weghorst on and scored 2 in 15 mins when he came off. Then we dropped him for 2 games and won both, then we started playing him again and its not been great.

He adds literally nothing to our team at best, and actively makes things worse at worst

'Weghorst was signed because he's a friend of Ten Hag' has been mentioned a few times recently. Where's this actually come from?

There are lots of quotes on this and it is nepotism at its best. For example:

Ten Hag said about United's new signing: "I think Wout [Weghorst] has surprised at every club where he has been, except at Burnley.

"I have been following him for a long time, all through his career. I have known him since he was 16 years old and everywhere he has been he has surprised."

He has known him since he was 16, even said so himself. I would not be suprised if he is a friend of the family. Always nice to give a friend a nice retirement package at the tail end of his career.

I am so glad our great manager ETH forced Ronaldo out. With he's 24 goals last season in a broken team, he had to go. But at least we had a good replacement in Weghorst, so far he's scored 2 in all competitions. The manager handled that situation like a boss. Good of him to set he's fellow countryman up with a nice retirement fund though.

He’s 30 so he’s hardly close to retirement, and isn’t that exactly what we were giving Ronaldo?

Alot of questions but not alot of sene made. Ronaldo made the interview when he was being benched for inferior players, he wanted out because he was not in EtH plans. Dumb decision of EtH was letting Ronaldo know he would not be playing first choice before the season started. After the interview and the treatment Ronaldo received ahead of it, there was obviously no going back.
Ronaldo got far more opportunities than his performances warranted. He scored 3 goals in 16 games, his all-round play was non-existent, he did zero defensive work - why on earth should have Ten Hag persisted with him? The treatment he received was very favourable, considering his performances.

NAME A U-21 PLAYER THAT STEPS UP

Not ETH's fault when Ronaldo didn't turn up for pre season.

The only inferior player here is Ronaldo because others were offering a lot more than him at the time. In different ways. Ronaldo couldn't even score on his own in the EL.

I don't know, it's hard to believe any of them could be worse if they're aiming to become professional footballers.
Listen man, im one hundred percent with you in principle. It just doesn't work like that unfortunately and certainly not when your youth team itself needs work. We've had some fortunate breaks over the years but if we're honest they're few and far between.

And there's something to be said about the physical and emotional maturity needed to play constantly in top flight with the pressure of United. You can't just plop a kid in.

Even without the kids, we did better between the time Ronaldo left and wegorst joined, than we have playing weghorst so it seems like literally anyone else up top would be a better option

Ronaldo was even worse this season than Weghorst has been. Their offensive output are both horrendous, but at least Weghorst works hard on the press and makes meaningful contributions in build-up. Says the eye-test, and the stats too.

If there's a really dumb decision, it was playing Ronaldo as much as he did. He was literally one of the worst strikers in the Premier League, and it's hard to see which alternative in United's squad could be considered inferior to him. On the strength of performances this season, he simply did not warrant a place in the lineup - not on United, and not had he been on a considerably weaker team either.

Yeah, Ive got 1250, post just about every day and I'm still a newbie.
Is it because I'm Scottish?

Wout has 2 goals in 27 and is a league 1 player.

One’s gotten shit in old age. One was always shit. Both are like playing with 10 men.

Wout is absolute useless, like laughably bad, the kind of player other fans laugh themselves to sleep about (we have enough of them already). Ronaldo most likely caused way bigger problems off the pitch than his lack of pressing caused on it, its like picking between a sh*t sandwich and a kick in the nuts, so neither.

If Ronaldo stayed, the moment we started having a tough run of games with streak of bad results, he would have turned against Ten Hag. And if the players follow him... we'd be back at square one again, back at the position where Ole got the sack. So it's still Wout for me. He is detrimental to our goals, not the whole club. On top of that Garnacho has always respected Ronaldo, not a good example for the kid. We want him to stay away from Ronaldo.

Ever considered the stingy bastard owners who refused to spend money into the equation? it was mid season loan and only Felix and him were the candidates. So it's easy to see which one did the owners approve. Do you think Ten Hag would have put his job at risk just so he can give his friend some retirement money?

Letting Ronaldo go was the right decision. Loaning Wout was a bad decision. Its neither for me. I rather play Scott upfront

I can only imagine that WW is a good influence in training and dressing room. It must be something we all do not see. On the pitch, he’s nowhere good enough at this level. Only ETH would know why WW is picked regularly. Another reason would be tactical. But that is a weird strategy as it almost always never worked.

Much prefer Weghorst, neither are good enough to play but at least Wout is good on the bench. Gets on with his team mates, doesn`t seem to moan and there is no media circus when he doesn`t play. Ronaldo can`t even do a good job sat on the bench these days.
