We must buy the next Messi

We must buy, not produce.

The emphasis is on BUY.

Got it now?

And you know... Messi is not enough. Barca did buy Neymar and Souarez. They did not stay with Messi only.

(And yes, they did buy Messi. He was young, but they did buy him. Real did buy Ronaldo. And so on...)
So if we found ourselves with the new Messi actually at our academy would you advocate selling him so we could buy him back? Perhaps this was the plan with Pogba?

I really feel this galatico project woody seems to be dreaming of will come with a big price, i kinda feel that most established world class players really struggle with change, and because they've won trophies at the biggest level they find it so hard to come down to earth and go with the flow.

I know some people think we've been doing it the other way for ages now, but for me, trying with the likes of obertan, tosic, bebe, smalling, jones, chica, manucho and diouf, was really pushing it. We've been trying so hard to make world class players on the cheap to no avail, ronaldo was the exception not the rule.

I really like how chelsea are doing things now, hazard, oscar, matic and costa, actually joining chelsea has been a step up for almost everyone other than fabregas. Those players didn't come on the cheap by the way, but it's money well spent.

So where are we on this? Some say right back is our priority but I personally think getting the next Messi could be more beneficial. Hopefully Woodward has learnt from his mistakes in previous windows and gotten his act together. No excuses if he doesn't sort this out in the summer imo.

A name that comes into the mind is Dybala ( in terms of an upcoming talent). It is absurd to call anyone the new messi, but darnit this lad has an exciting future ahead.

It was a huge mistake not buying the next Messi last summer. Can't see us making that mistake again

Seems like a better idea with each passing day. The caf reached peak genius with this thread.

There won't be a next Messi. We're signing Depay though. Is that close enough?

Let's sign every Messi of each nationality and watch us dominate world football. Can't believe Mourinho or Guardiola never concocted this genius plan.

Would Pellers be lurking on the Caf every now and then, or is he just so much smarter than Mou & Pep?

Asked how long City or any English cub may take to close the gap to Barça, Pellegrini said: “First we need to find another Messi. He makes the difference, like [Cristiano] Ronaldo at Real Madrid.

Credit when credit is due, and in the blue part of Manchester they are definitely on to something.

'The Next Messi' is a great name for a band...

Just sayin'.

There is no next Messi. The guy is a complete one off.

"He's a goalscoring winger and there aren't so many of them in the world,

Messi is one of those"

He listened.

I agree that it was a mistake not buying the next Messi.
But what about the one after that...can we not buy the next Messi, after the next Messi?
:D

There are rumours, perhaps politically motivated, suggesting Leo is weighing his options should Barto remain in power after today's elections - and United are referenced

Can you imagine if we actually signed him

Do not want! Would stunt Pereira's development.

This. Also would cost too much and be on really high wages. I bet they'd want something like 110 million. Surely, we can get proper talent for around 30. Also, he's really old now - in his late twenties. I'd like us go for a proper youngster.
