We must buy the next Messi

By the way, I don't mind the funny posts.

However, the point is that we have to buy our future success.

And we can afford to do so, because we are a very rich club.

We should forget the "homegrown talent". That was a different era.
Eeer Messi was brought through the Barcelona ranks. Awkward.

My little cousin is the next leo messi. He's 7 years old. Maybe we should sign him he's really good. Currently playing in west hams kids stuff, got scared off by arsenal and their insane approach to teaching kids at this age football.

You can't jump ship mate. 'New Neymar' is not 'Next Messi'.

We must buy the next Messi...fo' real.

We must buy, not produce.

The emphasis is on BUY.

Got it now?

And you know... Messi is not enough. Barca did buy Neymar and Souarez. They did not stay with Messi only.

(And yes, they did buy Messi. He was young, but they did buy him. Real did buy Ronaldo. And so on...)

Too long and too complicated!

I have a better plan which is very simple and it is guaranteed to work:

Do exactly what Real Madrid has been doing for the past 5 years!

1 league title in the last 6 years and one CL final in the last 12.

I can definitely see the point of signing "anti-players". I just hope the club's considered the risks of doing that with Mata. It would be very dangerous to have the two of them at the same club.

This isn't what you said you wanted though. You didn't want kids that would become stars in a few years time. You wanted ready made players. That's why I asked you to tell me who they are. If they are 20/21/22, you should be able to identify the "next Messi".

This "new Neymar" guy is 19. He is not a kid.

But anyway, we need both young and already developed top players (22-25 years old, like when we bought Rio for example).

You should tell him to come to Carrington. We always welcome the next Messi as you can see from this thread.

It is more sensational to write

We must buy the next Messi

Than write

We must buy the next Rio

Even though we did break the transfer record for a defender at that time!

When you say we need to buy the next Messi, I believe you want us to buy the next best player in the world.

Good plan. Let's do it before the other clubs figure this out.

Wum, also likely a mod

No, you didn't get it! That's Scottish thinking.

Let's outbid the other clubs!!!

That's American thinking!

If you want a front line as good as Barca's then we have to spend 100 for "anti-Naymar", 100 for "anti-Suarez" and 200 for "anti-Messi".

Yes, it's a lot of money. But that's the only way to do it. That's what Real Madrid did.

If there is some other way, please tell me what it is. Because I don't see any other way.

Why not look at the current best team in the world - Bayern? None of their players cost even half of what Ronaldo, Bale, Neymar or Suárez cost. Before Bayern it was Barca that were up there and at their peak the only player that cost more than €30m was David Villa. Well, Ibrahimovic too but then he obviously doesn't help your point. Or just look at United in the second half of the 00's - in 06/07 we had 2 players that cost £20m+, Chelsea had 5, and yet we dominated the league and were as competitive as anyone in the CL.

OK then, for the third time... who?

Who are these 22-25 year olds you think we should buy?

First of all, we have to hire the right people who can answer that question with authority. I am a computer programmer, not a scout.

However, I can have an opinion that the club was following a frugal approach under SAF but now we have to radically change direction if we want to compete for trophies.

We cannot expect to produce another class of 92. So, what else is left? Buy the best players. Not just middle-of-the-pack players as we have been doing. But consistently outbid other clubs for the very best players. Looking at Barca today (not a few years back): they have bought most of their players. Yes, we have bought most of our players, too... but we did not aim for the most expensive players, that's the difference.

But the best players, at 22-25 are well known, world stars, so I'm asking you which of those you would like. Computer programmer or not, if you are a football fan you'll have an opinion on the best 22-25 year olds around.

That's a reasonable opinion. But I don't think that Bayern today is better than Barca or Real.

Also, the Germans do have a fine national team. Which means that they have a lot of top local talent. England... not so.

I do not want to go into that direction. It is not my goal to discuss specific players. We have other threads for that.

At least, I think that you and me would agree that we have lost top talent for just "A few dollars more". Like Hazard and Pogba. And who knows who else that we never tried to get, or made low-ball offers. Most of that information does not go out of a small circle inside the club. So we do not really know who else was offered to the club but we refused because he was "too expensive".

Before watching the City-Barca game, my opinion was that the emphasis should be on home-grown talent.

I though that City was the bought team and Barca was the home-grown team. So, when Barca was playing cat and mouse with City ...this should reinforce my "home-grown" thesis! Right?

Well, yeah... till I realized that Barca has actually bought the best players of their current team!!!

Xavi and Iniesta are not their best players any more. Even Messi was bought from a different country. And he missed the penalty. The players that actually won the game was Neymar and Souarez. Barca did pay top money for each of them. How many players did we buy that cost as much? Only Di Maria! Why?

One game of football changed your entire perception of what approach we should take when it comes to signing players?

Amidst all the shite, its threads like this which remind me how much I love Redcafe.
