We must buy the next Messi

This. Also would cost too much and be on really high wages. I bet they'd want something like 110 million. Surely, we can get proper talent for around 30. Also, he's really old now - in his late twenties. I'd like us go for a proper youngster.
Ya c'mon we could sign 5-6 good players with that money.Or even better 2 dozen Benitez players.

If Messi was available for 110, he would have been sold by now. And any Barca president putting Messi on transfer list is likely to put his life in danger.

We had a chance to sign Neymar, he'll be the best player in the world when Messi and Ronaldo are declined grant it he'll never hit their heights but I'd imagine he'd be comfortably better than 99% of players at top level.

Nothing's set in stone. I wouldn't be surprised if he's slowed by injuries or his motivation tails off after winning it all.

I know, I know. It was a joke. You know how people respond to quality players in the market on here.

Exactly. Kane would be much better and suits are team as well. :P

People simply won't realize that we need to buy the NEXT Messi, not the current one.

United never even had a sniff of Neymar.

Did we? Doubt he'd have ever come here with either Real or Barca interested.

Sorry that may have came out wrong, I meant a chance as in we could have pushed hard for him earlier in his career. I'm not sure we were ever interested, which is baffling.

We did buy excellent players this year. But still second tier. Unfortunately, we did not buy anyone at the Messi-Neymar-Suarez-Bale-Ronaldo caliber. At least, not yet. So, we definitely wont be the best team in the world... at least not in the way Barca has been.

Thanks god, we are over the "homegrown talent" mantra and the "Scottish manager" nightmare. We are buying the best players we can find. Keep spending ... and the titles will come. Buy the best players available, and we will build a fine team. The red galacticos!

Home grown talent mantra, what is that? There's the home grown rule we all know

So by your logic, fergies fledglings were a pointless exercise and the Fergie years were a nightmare?

I disagree with the thread title. "We need to develop the next Messi", now that's something I'd like to see.

(Or replace "Messi" with "Giggs" or "Scholes".)

Am I the only one who laughs EVERY time this thread gets bumped?

If we do buy the next messi, he'd take 2 years to bed in, then 1 semi decent year, then 1 amazing year. Then he'd feck off to barcelona or madrid

They were fantastic. For the 1990s. Two decades later, the situation is very different.
thanks for educating me on their decline, for a moment there it was if I never lived through it.

You still haven't answered my initial question regarding your fecked up logic, the above is a predicted ageing process.

You were saying that the Fergie years were a nightmare, care to enlighten me on your horrific journey during the trophy laden Fergie years?

I just realized that the thread title is, in fact, misleading. What the OP advocates is clearly buying the present Messi, not the next one.

Which makes sense when you think about it. Less of a gamble, one might say.

Nononono, he wants to sign 20-24 year old players for huge amounts of cash that can be as good as Messi, Neymar et al., you know... don't know who they are, but then again neither does the OP.

So...he wants to sign the likes of Neymar, literally speaking, but players who are nevertheless unknown (in spite of being as good as Neymar). And in spite of them being unknown, he wants us to spend immense loads of cash on 'em?

I like that plan. It's completely insane and could thus work.

I wonder how much it would cost to buy all the 0-14 year old boys in Argentina.
I also wonder if I'm the first person to have ever wondered that but I doubt it.

We can't do it legally.Players outside of EU need to be at least 18 years old and successfully applied for a work permit to be signed.
