Horrendous first first half, even with Martial and Mata not being able to get into the game, id have been fuming to be taken off ahead of Rooney.

Second half he was just meh, nothing good, nothing overly bad, just meh.

Extra time he does well for the goal, going past a stranded Myler(i think?) who had basicly sold himself down the river. Went in far too hot and simply couldnt do anything or he gives away a pen. But even that once a game isnt enough.

Martial in form does that same thing 5-10 times in a good game, and Rashford's run was perfectly timed to capitalise for Rooney, for the most part Martial has had to rely on Rooney making that run, and that simply never happens.

Frankly i still think he's only in the team because of the business. Mata is a better 10 and a front 4 -

---------Zlatan-------
Martial - Mata - Miki

With Rashford taking a place where neccessary ahead of Rooney - would be far better.

I slag him off a lot and hope he doesn't start the next game, but credit where it's due he did great with that dribble. The pass was right in the danger area too.

I just wish he had 4/5 of those moments a game, instead of 1 moment of magic.

He's so inconsistent and hot and cold it's very frustrating. I think it shows that when we needed a goal the most he's shoved out wide though.

Rashford and mkhi make us so much more dangerous.

The run in behind and cross for martial in the first half, he had a shot cleared off the line, the free kick which Zlatan nearly put in and the one at the end makes four key contributions. My personal opinion is Rooney should be slowly phased out this season but some on here are a utter disgrace he clearly still makes chances more than anyone else today, I think touch his poor btw, thats his main issue but he is still creative and some are blind if they don't see that.

Poor first, a good 2nd half. But I guess it will be portrayed he was rubbish the whole game.

Today, that assist was worth its weight in gold. A terrific change of pace mixed with composure.

None of those other things were anything special. Any premier league attacker can and should be making those runs and doing that.

His assist was nice but it was a 6/10 performance apart from that.

His ability to contribute even when playing poorly, it's really quite remarkable.

I don't think he's played at all well this season, and yet he's scored one and set up two.

I'll get some stick for this but I'm past caring, the best thing we can hope for is an injury. There's no other way he'll get dropped.

Wishing for one of your own teams players to get injured, classy.

Well, he is incredibly talented.

I'd disagree with the run behind and cross for martial, that was excellent but even with that my point is people are saying he's done nothing when in fact he's been involved in more of our chances created than anyone else, the hate for Rooney is out of order people are just ignoring stuff he's doing in games. Is Rooney's touch bad, yes its a weakness he's had for a long time, can he be sloppy in possession yes he can these are valid points but saying he's not created chances when he clearly has is hate plain and simple, which for a player whose been key to one of the most successful periods we've ever had is unfair imo.

Another assist by Rooney,What a terrible player.....
Tbf, it was a bit like being kicked in the balls for 90-odd minutes, then being handed a tenner & asked to forget the pain.

Saved our asses with that assist, to be fair.

Still, I want to see Mkhitaryan start ahead of him. We need more energy and penetration down the center.

The last two games i came on here thinking he's played alright to decent, this game especially in the second half i thought he was looking a lot better. Only to find 7-8 pages of guff about how terrible he is.

Despite his poor form last year and the deserved criticism he received at times i think a lot of people are now being way too harsh on him.

he was relieved of responsibility out wide and became the supporting cast, Miki and Rashford changed and dominated the game. Great assist though

There's still a good footballer in there somehwere, he just doesn't have it in him to perform on a decent level for 90 minutes anymore.

He still has plenty of value for us, but the crux of the matter is that this season he's probably only going to be our 5th or 6th most influential attacker, rather than us relying on him to be top man.

For 60 minutes he was awful, then for the last 30 minutes he played as Ashley Young, great assist though, that doesn't alter the fact he was like an extra DM for Hull for an hour.

What an assist. When he squared up to take on his man, I had no confidence he'd get round him. But he did. Thankful for that.

I think the Hull player had been reading this forum and was complacent, as he was absolutely caught out by that turn of pace

Right then. Using whoscored.com made 5 key passes today. The highest average by any player over 2-3 games so far is 4 (Willian) Rooney is 9th in key passes in the whole league (chances created) after 2-3 games. I say 2-3 games because 4 out of the top ten creative players have only played 2 games.

So today he actually created more chances than can be reasonably expected.

been panning him for most of the match, but fair play with that nice bit of play at the end for rashford goal.

 Would that tenner make you jump in joy, Steve?
Actually I thought it was a cracking assist, chief, and I'm very grateful to Wayne for making it happen.

There was a passage of play early in the game where he lost the ball a few times in quick succession and I knew then that for many of his detractors that was all the confirmation bias they need to pan him, unless he scored 2 - 3 goals.

1/10 for 60 mins, 6/10 for 30 mins, 9/10 for 2mins, saved our bacon, but would we have needed saving had he been on the bench?

Slagged him off earlier, will give him credit now: Rashford's goal owes a lot to Rooney's ability to tap that old magic once in a blue moon. I just wish he tapped it more often.

Like his goal against Bournemouth or his cross for Zlatan's goal last week you mean? Or do you have something else in mind.

Do you think his contributions in those games were as good as the one today..? My point was that his contribution today was the best he has done in a long time. It still doesn't make up for how awful he was for the rest of the game.

I don't think he was awful at all. I would prefer him to play as a wide forward on today's showing given how good his is at crossing and he played as a wide forward a lot in his younger days under Fergie.

Haha... Brilliant!

He was terrible today. Absolutely terrible overall.

Again very poor start to the game - not able to hold on to the ball and I wasn't pleased. But, he grew into the game and ultimately was decisive for us. Hopefully he can get show good energy from the off in the next game because that's not one where he can afford to be that careless and slow to start.

He's still capable of this little moments of magic, that's why he should be used as impact sub, not starter and captain!

utterly undeserving of the criticism he is getting today, played alot better then alot of other players(martial, Zlatan, Fellaini, Mata) had a good game last week, looks skinnyer then i think ive ever seen him, yet people people still lay into him.

At the start of the season he would have been no where near my first 11.... he's wining me over.... hope he continues to prove me wrong.

He plays in extremes. From losing the ball three times in his own half, in the space of a minute to a brilliant assist.
