Still wasn't impressed with his all around performance, and still believe he shouldn't be starting - but that cross from him was excellent. Well done for that

Interesting that he was pushed out onto the left when Mkhitaryan came on. Could we see that more frequently?

There's still a good footballer in there somehwere, he just doesn't have it in him to perform on a decent level for 90 minutes anymore.

I can forgive Martial as he has form from as recent as last year. Rooney (legend that he has been) is gone. I'm not Mata's biggest fan but I'd rather have him playing than Rooney right now. Personally I'd drop both Mata and Rooney for Mkhitaryan and Rashford. Our attack goes up two notches!!

I'd drop Martial and Mata. Martial looks out of sorts if you ask me. I do think Mata would look a lot better with Mkhitaryan and Rashford as part of the front three but I prefer Mkhitaryan through the middle but don't fancy Mata outside.

We still need a lowlight though. There were some hilariously bad pieces of play from him today

Shit all game and yet he does this... Wtf is wrong with him? I'll give him 10 this time because he won us the game even though he didn't play well.

Kind of make sense, as many complain about his touch and vision dropping deep. Although it means Mata must be out. We can't have 2 wide players that are slow.

Seems defenders of Rooney dont understand those who bashing him and why. I am not Rooney basher, never was one but for the life of me i dont understand how can he allow to be in way worse shape then Ibra who is 4 years older, also how on earth you can have first touch worse then freaking tree...thats what irks me the most.He did great for a goal but maybe he might be a one of reasons why we got in that position on the 1st place.

Anyone doubting his considerable influence in the media needs to look at the gloating from his friends after that assist. Dropping Rooney isn't worth the ensuing shitstorm that will swiftly follow.

Martial & Mata will be the ones sacrificed for Rashford & Mkhitaryan. Rooney's the first name on the team sheet whether you guys like it or not.

Think Martial will definitely be dropped for the City match.

Thought Rooney was largely poor today, but big contribution at the end. Problem for him is that Miki and Rashford played better when coming on and they were in the no.10 and RW spot respectively. Not sure I see Jose starting Rooney LW. Think the only change we will see is Rashford for Martial next match.

I agree Rooney was poor, but all I'm saying is he wasn't the worst. And think Mkhi will be starting for Mata from now

Rooney has made crucial contributions in every game he has played. Martial's stats show two assists but they were the easiest assists ever. Aside from that he has done nothing this season.

So Rooney has made crucial contributions but Martial hasn't even though he has two assists? You can't have it both ways my friend. Martial has not fired granted but Rooney has been shockingly bad and wasn't great last season either. Where as Martial was our best outfield player and top goalscorer. Think I'd go with Martial at this stage as I think he'll come good where as Rooney I'm not so sure!

His fan boys are talking as if we are sad he had an excellent second half.
If not for him, we don't win that match. I knock him as much as anyone but I'm as delighted as much as anyone.

I think it will be Martial. Felt, while not great, Mata was quite involved in the game. With Martial, nothing happened for him.

Thought he had a great game, so glad he set up that winning goal. Sick to death of the hate for him.

Think will be both. With Mata, I felt he is playing only to quiet all those rumours down of him leaving

Mourinho's plan was great though, he put Henrik in the middle which improved the team greatly and would have gave him the excuse to drop Rooney. FFS, Rooney!

It was a brilliant piece of play.....got past his man...looked up and passed at the right pace to allow Rashford to reach it....experience. No, he wasn't great before..but when Rashford came on, didn't he go wide? Anyway.....fair play to him..he made the goal and the right person was in the right person to deliver it. The one thing he has is that Fergie...'yer never give in'...which he proved at that moment.

Has made significant contributions to all of our 3 wins so far and easily merits his place in the team.

I've knocked him as much as any on here on the past 18 months bit please judge him by current performances and not a pre conceived agendas!

He was abysmal first half, mediocre at best second half but delivered a great assist. He got nothing to prove again. The PR train lives on.

Usually defend Rooney because let's face it, some of the haters in here suffer from such a bad case of confirmation bias that it's hillarious. But he was really awful in the first half, still he stepped up as captain and got us the win. Hope he can step up his overall game, because having both him and Zlatan with their attitude is going to get us a lot of points. Maybe the assist will make him realise he's not actually 50 years old and can still beat players.

I slag him off a lot and hope he doesn't start the next game, but credit where it's due he did great with that dribble. The pass was right in the danger area too.

I just wish he had 4/5 of those moments a game, instead of 1 moment of magic.

He's so inconsistent and hot and cold it's very frustrating. I think it shows that when we needed a goal the most he's shoved out wide though.

Rashford and mkhi make us so much more dangerous.

Great play for the goal. Frustrating as feck in the first half though.

2 assists and 1 goal in 3 games it could be worse.

One of Martial's assists was a terrible shot ended up arriving at Zlatan's feet and the other was a two yard pass in a non threatening position. Those assists were the perfect example of why stats should only be considered with context. Rooney's assist today was a match winning piece of play and all down to him.

Rubbish, and has been for nearly 3 years.

Every now and then scoring or setting up a goal shouldn't warrant a starting spot. We have players much better than him on the bench ffs.

Let's put this in perspective. We were playing Hull City and he was one of the worst players on the pitch until he finally made a contribution worth watching. I give credit to him for a great assist, but he shouldn't be anywhere near starting for this team. He needs to make contributions like that a lot more often for that to change.

Like his goal against Bournemouth or his cross for Zlatan's goal last week you mean? Or do you have something else in mind.
