I can' t believe you doubt those lies I made up, dear Jazzie...
*cries like a twit* :D

Today we lived by Rooney, died by Rooney.

Invisible first half, poor despite the goal. Than that chance squandered when he hit Martial in the 2nd after which he started showing some desire and tenacity and then stupidity stuck once again and he gave away that free kick.

It's time for him to move on, for him and for us both.

Me too! Sick of all the PR bull that comes with him.
And to think he should have scored that very good chance he had as well. Really pissed off today.

That was Martial's fault for getting in the way. At least that's what the news people will say.

Always puts the penalties away if we're losing or drawing.

Probably the best part of today. Outside of that, he looked the exact opposite of the 3 runners. All the experience, and knows what he'd like to be doing. But can't anymore.

Yeah I know:( Same old same old..

As soon as I see hin on the team sheet, I know the game will be difficult to watch. He should have gone years ago, and now it is just so obvious. United should sue him to get back the salary they've paid him this year.

Unless we're getting a couple penalties per game there's no need to play him. His one trick is send the ball out wide to Valencia. Few times he had other options but still chose that one. That is so irritating. It's like he's taking the safest option so no one can blame him if that move doesn't come off or something.

His body is gone as well... too much drinking methinks...

Would be nice for the club to get their money back but they deserve to have him pull down their pants - as they were stupid to give him that mega contract, irrespective of the circumstances of SAF leaving and simple Moyes taking over. The club gave him all that power, so now they have to reap what they sow..

He should do a Gary Neville and announce his retirement.

Very poor again today. The game just by passed him totally by.
Glad he went the way he did with the penalty as fabianski would have saved it if he went his usual way.
Definate gonner in the summer should have been gone at least 4 years ago.
Not his fault but has had to much admiration from journalist and pundits who have helped keep to him at the club for far to long.

If it weren't for injuries he would never have got close to the first team again this season, other than the potential 'dead rubber' of a game against Palace on the last day, I hope we don't see him as a United player again.

I cannot believe how much he has declined in the last few years. Shadow of the player he once was. Should never play again for the club, & if he had any sense retire from the game.

Damn Rooney.

I know Martial was in the way, but he had the entire side of the goal to aim at.

Just

He's finished though. He's definitely not going to be here next season.

Man he sucks nowadays it's like watching Mike Tyson fight Danny Williams all over. Not s shadow of what he used to be and actually very sad. Hope he retires at the end of the season as he will be crucified if he goes to Everton.

He was so bad today. Played as a playmaker but looked completely off the pace. Offered nothing to complement Rashford, Lingard and Martial in attack, completely failed to press and allowed Swansea to easily bypass him all game. Most damning stat is making comfortably fewer passes than Darmian in his 80 odd minutes versus the latter's 30 minutes. That's quite incredible. He only made two in the first ten minutes and Mourinho got it badly wrong by not acting sooner. Even if he did not want to waste a sub after the early injury, he could have shunted him wide and moved Lingard central.

I backed Mourinho to get the most out of him and was so wrong. Feel a tad for Rooney, as he has conceded he would be better served in his latter days by playing deeper than as a 10 or 9, and could well make a decent midfielder given time. Mourinho made clear at the start of the season that he did not want this, but playing him in his standard position has been a terrible move. If he no-one comes in for him, we could well be stuck with him next year, in which case he needs to commit to developing a new role for the team as a last chance.

Get real, Rooney never was and never will be a midfielder. He is a striker who is clearly past it.
How many last chances do you wish to give Rooney?

Love the guy but shouldn't be first choice or even on the bench for us if everyone is fit. Nothing has changed in that regard.

Imagine if somebody claimed you had an anti Rooney agenda for saying that.

It'd be mightily frustrating wouldn't it. ;)

He is an absolute nothing player these days, at this level. I can't really remember a United player who had a similar fall from grace, at such a relatively early stage.

It's an absolute travesty watching this current version of Wayne Rooney, the footballer, as he bears no resemblance with the Wayne Rooney who showed up as a teenager and was one of the indisputable leaders of our team for about a decade, at a time when we roughed it out with the very best.

A 22 year old Wayne Rooney is just what our team needs right now. The fire, the fight, the strength and the pure will to score goals and win football matches. Instead, we have this guy. It's just sad.

Nope I was a real smart arse and saw it that year as well. Madrid away you could see that physically he didn't belong at that level anymore.

Fair play.

I said he was finished last season in pre-season. It was very obvious to me.

How people at the club have not noticed is amazing.

Tbh, I think Mourinho underestimated how much Rooney has falled.

this season has been a massive series of what could of been games

Rooney's presence in the squad has contributed towards that and today was another non-performance from our 300k a week man..... he's been truly awful

watching MOTD and Spurs take Arsenal apart.... 300k would pay the salary of Kane, Erickson, Dele Alli combined with plenty in change.....

of course the wanking English media will report this as 2 goals in 2 games Wayne Rooney

it was Van Gaal's fault for giving him a pre-emiment position and Jose for not just getting shot in the Summer

I think the Bayern games under Moyes were the same. He was zero threat to them.

I think Mourinho has got it right. Maybe he could have forseen this during the summer and bought another striker but it didn't take him too much longer too see what we fans have known for ages.

Agree.

Well tbf, after the good penalty, Rooney gain confidence, his performances then is more composed and decent enough in the early part of the second half - nearly add another goal, good passes, and good tackles. He showed more hunger and appetite, perhaps his best performance of this season. Before the penalty, his play is tbh embarassing:(. And then... 'that' happened.

Don't think he could walk into the club and get rid though, look how he's questioned every press conference about him. Think mourinho has played it perfectly, given him enough rope to hang himself. He's only gotten minutes recently because of the injuries.

Don't know about others but I've not really called anyone out for having an agenda in a while. When he got undeserved and OTT criticism, I defended him. Right now he's done and while I wished he'd get some more respect, that's something I've long given up on from our fans. Right now he doesn't deserve to be anywhere close to the squad and I won't argue otherwise. If he sticks around, good enough but I think it's not going to happen anymore. It's a shame watching him struggle to perform these days.

I think you characterised posters with those opinions six months ago as agenda driven.

Maybe now is the time to acknowledge they were correct and just saw it before you did.

I hope that I am not the only one who realizes that he did not offer anything in attack. He did not play any incisive passes. He just hoofed the ball sideways to the full-backs. He slowed down the attack and allowed Swansea to regroup.

Also, if we had Zlatan and Felliani, this could be deadly because the full-backs could either send a low cross or a high cross. Swansea needed to only defend against low crosses and he was playing directly into Swansea's tactics by sending balls to the full-back and allowing Swansea to defend.

He was really good in the first half and even though Swansea were controlling a lot of the ball I thought he linked up with Martial and was giving him the time and space to run. He almost played Rashford through a couple of times as well and it will take time to adjust to the all-round system of having a striker who will play short as well as run in behind in Zlatan's absence. Everyone just looks tired as hell and the attack as a whole had a couple of sloppy moments but I am glad he stepped up and slotted that penalty. What a shame that Martial got in the way of that finish just after the break as well, that would have been a well-crafted goal and Rooney's bread and butter move arriving on the spot to lash home after good build up and wide play. Rotten luck that Martial happened to get in the road of what would have been a perfect finish. If he's going play at the #10 then we need to be playing to that square ball a lot more, Valencia had two instances where a square 12 yard ball would have found an unmarked Rooney in the box but one of them he smashed bizarrely at the keeper (with 5 of our players in the box ffs) and the other he tried to stop-and-go back around the fullback which was absolutely the wrong move and lost the ball. Some of those attacking kinks need to be ironed out down the stretch if we're to get anything out of the season, we've got to find easy ways to score goals with Zlatan out.

What I was impressed by was when Bailly came off he stabilized us and he dropped in deeper to help out Carrick but then he undid it with the brain-fart for the equalizer. I understand the desperation but we've had several shockers this season from several of our players so you would have to hope that he learns from this and we just move forward and try to rectify these silly mistakes.

All in all it was another promising outing. I'd rest him against Celta trip for the Arsenal game. I think there might be another goal in him if we can play well against them.

Wow.

That's.All.

I think this is finally the post where we all realise you are on a WU.

Wum - Ban him!

Rooney was atrocious. I am absolutely convinced Scholes could play tomorrow and do a better job!
