Even if in your opinion he has only been good for two games that's still more than rash and lingard
Just having pace isn't enough, it's why we have struggled and why zlatan struggled because he had two blunt wingers opposite him
Rooney has 3 goals 8 assists
Rash 4 goals 1 assist
Lingard 3 goals 2 assists

He is more than twice as effective and that's with being dropped and having been out of form.

Clearly he is above those two in the pecking order as he has been starting ahead of them recently, rightly so

It was a joke on here a while back that someone would use those assists in an argument for him at some point

1 Feyenoord: Great assist, good cutback.
2 Swansea: 3 yards pass to Ibra who struck it in from 20 yards and another 3 yard pass to Ibra who did all the work to finish it again.
1 Fenerbahce: Another 5 yard pass on the edge of the area for matter to strike it in from 20 yards.
1 Zorya: A completely scuffed shot off his shin that Zlatan headed in at the near post

1 Hull: a good cross from the left hand side.
1 Leicester: A pass to Lingard on the half way line who Messi'd his way to goal.
1 Southampton: A floated cross for Ibra.

That's 5 assists out of his 8 where he was either extremely lucky with a scuffed shot or just a simple 5 yard pass under no pressure outside the area that was followed by a wonder strike or dribble from the receiver.

Since being dropped he's looked leaner and much more motivated than he has in years. He'd been indulged by so many managers for so long that he knew it didn't matter how badly he played he'd still be picked week in and week out. Now for the first time since Fergie he has a manager that will judge him on merit.

All that said, despite looking leaner and more motivated he just isn't good enough anymore. Last night was probably not that bad by his normal standards but it still wasn't anywhere near the level I'd want from an attacking player at Utd. He's scored 2 Premier League goals since February.

So why don't lingard and rashford have any stats worth discussing at all? Play it down if you like but it doesn't excuse the fact thy have 3 between them
That's the joke

I must have seen a different game to everybody else last night and thought Rooney played really well. He pressed with the team, didn't make any individual mistakes, got into some good positions in the box and engineered a good effort himself.

And this is from a guy who has wanted him out of the club since 2012!
Exactly this. He'd of had two very decent goals of their keeper didn't pull off two great saves. What more do people want? We know he's not the player he once was but he's been playing pretty good lately. Once again I'll say it, all he's done for the club and people constantly have a pop at him. We don't deserve to win stuff with the attitude of some of our fans.

I dont care how much better or not he's played in one or two out of 150 games for the last three or four seasons, he's not good enough for Manchester United right now, ppl say that about Lingard or Rashford yet they are twice the palyers rooney is now and more effective and with great potentials to be fulfilled... but he gets games over them always, Martial could be played into form too, or Depay given chance... but it's rooney who gets the chance

Rooney hasn't had a single good game this season.

West Ham game in the EFL cup. That is the only game where he was literally the old Rooney from first minute until the end.

Other than that, I can't think of a single all round performance where he showed he was United quality (goals aside).

I'm sure he's had other ok games (relative to his own troubles and waning powers) but not what I would call performances expected of a Man United number 10.

Saw someone mention Rooney's spell of form has come to an end. Really, it was a 'spell' was it..

Forget Rooney for a moment but it's weird what people call an assist these days. A player can pass a ball to his team mate 2 yards from his own box, with the recipient dazzling all the way to the other end and score. That can't be an assist, can it?

lingard has no potential he isn't a young player like rashford
Rashford is not a lw and is shite when deployed there, evidence is his lack of goal threat and being largely responsible for dropping points against arsenal
Until there is a suitable replacement Rooney or martial are rightly above them

Prepare for the hate storm coming your way dude.
I agree, he hasn't been amazing but someone just told me he is half the player lingard is, ffs

Well that's wrong, no point discussing any further as you're unable to view past the hate.
Happy for you to get the last word

It's not hate it's the truth, please name me the games he's played well in?

West Ham in the league cup is the level he should be getting minutes at. Good to see someone else is also unable to view past the "hate"

Not true. Swansea off the top of my head.

He wasn't good vs Swnasea they were absolutely awful, quite literally the worst performance we've come up against in the last year. Please take as much time as you need to list off all the other good performances he's had.

rooney is total shit all season and still gets played ahead of them because of his reputation from the past, if you don't agree don't agree but it looks like you have not been watching last few years and this season.. Lingard is still young and certainly has potential to be a great squad player he was kind of hitting form before dropped again for no reason.. I am not gonna continue as I am tired of arguing with ppl like you

That's fine but do you want to know who out of Rooney lingard rashford has played more forward passes? Created more chances? Played more key passes?
Everything you'd want an attacking player to do?
I'll give you a clue, it's not lingard

Edit @goin4glory worth you having a butchers at that too

His last outing was crap too. It was the one before that, or even the one before that I think.

He's absolutely 100% on his way out.

He's been marginalised for a long while now. After being left on the bench entirely for the Spurs match at the weekend (and not playing a full match at Zorya) you'd think he'd be the one to get 90 minutes last night but nope. He was dragged off when we most needed a goal.

I'm relaxed about the situation now, Mourinho has handled it perfectly and he's on his way out. I said when Mourinho called him out for not being a midfielder in the summer that was the start of Mourinho's plan to push him out:

Here's Mourinho before the Spurs game:

If we could now convince him to take the Chinese money and somehow get an ridiculous transfer fee too it would be just perfect :)

Mata was taking off as well? Don't understand the message here? Mou went for a different approach and tbh we looked even worse when he went off and couldn't keep possession.
Pogba and Zlatan won the game it had zero to do with the Rooney sub

based on what? stats? if so show me the stats mate but in the end it won't show the bigger picture as Lingard and Rashford work harder for the team and usually we play much better with them in the team than someone who can't last 60 minutes on the pitch, rooney from the first moment to last looks knackered can't really press like the two, and that's important because we are getting really rigid with Zlatan at times up front..

Yes based on stats buddy, from squawka. It's not all about pace, lingard is not a good footballer, he'd be better off at Everton or villa.
Rashford has oodles of potential but as a striker not a lw, and he isn't going to be starting ahead of zlatan anytime soon.
But yer Rooney out put is better so that puts a lot of people's arguments to bed atleast

lingard is now much better footballer than Rooney is. I also saw stats in which Lingard tops some of the best league's wingers in terms of creating chances and he does creates them but you fail to see it because you don't want to... only sums up how overrated rooney still is, out of pure reputation ppl he gets credited for almost nothing he did last few years.. And I am not gonna check some sqwuaka stats, not bothered to find, you are the one who talks about that and fail to back it up with some evidence so I doubt it is true.. but football on the pitch is obviously much bigger picture than some stats..

Lingard is a below average player regardless of your opinions of Rooney it's troubling that you think he is any good.
Sadly I'm not sure how to share online without posting it to my favebook which I'm not prepared to do.
Lingard had a better pass % at 90 Rooney at 86% both high but Rooney has so far created more.
Not sure how they work their attack score but he was better there as well.
The only thing lingard can do that Rooney can't is run, we don't need headless chickens

That is just ridiculous. Anyway Rooney has been good in all games lately except for Zorya were everyone was crap on that pitch. He could have easily scored 2 goals last night too. He is still is very good and has a lot to offer, he just cant play all games twice a week anymore.

He's not "very good" at all. He's had one 8/10 game in the last 6 months, one generous 7/10 and the rest have been somewhere between 3/10 and 5/10.

Modric is "very good", De Bruyne is "very good". Rooney is below average for this league.

Yep, his performances have been so bad for such a long time now that him putting in a few solid ones has been overblown.

just no, standards have dropped very low it seems, the pro rooney bias is extreme, he had a very good game against westham United and last night wasnt bad too apart that he was either atrocious or below average but as it's rooney it's always piece of geniality when he controls an easy pass or make something simple, OF COURSE he will create a chance or two when he plays in an advanced situation like him, it's natural but any other playeer can create much more just fecking wake up. I know rooney has been probably your idol for so long but jerking off about what he does on the pitch lately is absolutely ridiculous.

Lingard gets the team going much better these days and he's only a squad player in my eyes..

No, he really was angry with the officials. Was arguing with the fourth official from the moment he left the pitch all the way to the bench.

All smiles after the game. It was obviously the potentially dropped points that wound him up, rather than the substitution.

Yeah. People see what they want to see. He was arguing with the fourth official when he got subbed. It was clear to me that he was as pissed with the officiating as the rest of us.

You are not doing it right my friend. Modric's very good is an 8 out of 10. On the other hand, Rooney gets a 4 but this time you have to mark it out of 5. So they both get 80% and that makes them equal. Make sense now?

Modric is world class not just very good, lingard is below average Rooney although not the player he was is better than him.
I'm leaving this here, I usually agree with your posts but you're wrong on this one.
Happily the only person whose opinion matters is Jose's and he seems to hold Rooney above lingard.

Rooney will be moved on next season I have no doubt and I really hope we bring someone into replace him because lingard does not belong in a united 11.

 To be fair to @SirScholes, there isnt much difference between the stats anyway. But I would certainly prefer Lingard over Rooney these days generally because he can also provide more dynamism, interplay with others, defensive duties and can only improve with more game time. But Rooney still has his uses which a tacfically astute manager can utilise. He is miles better than anyone in our team to find space in the hole (but loses the advantage because of bad touches) and is a great finisher still.

I'd rather have a team of footballers than headless chickens tho, otherwise Bebe and bellion would still be around.
The problem with lingard is when he has to make a choice or has time to think its poor. His good touches like the one that set up pogba were more a surprise to himsel than to anyone else.
Rooney hasn't got a bad touch I've seen pogba control a ball and it go for a corner, the problem is Rooney set a standard that he can't deliver anymore (that and people being butt hurt his agent got him a nice contract) but his current standard is better than lingard

I can't believe that the first readers' comment I read in a story about Rooney sending his son to train with City was: "Can you imagine Roy Keane doing this?" Good grief.
