It was the injury, and can't blame him. Think Evra, Welbeck and Fletcher struggled a lot also.

They are really a lot better than us, and the matches shows that our squad need seriuos change during the summer.

Absolute bobbins. Didn't have a scooby doo.

Like everyone else, can't understand why he stayed on, rubbish first half and worse in the second. Moyes even sacrificed our shape to keep him on, ridiculous.
His misses have cost us the tie.

The worst player on the pitch tonight but he plays his worst games when we are the "underdogs" and excels when we are favorites to win the match/tie/league.. Need others to step up and be better..

IF he was injured, shouldn't have played... and he should have come off after about an hour.

The point where he got annoyed at Danny for passing him a ball - to his feet, in the box - was maddening.

Even Alan Smith defended Rooney, saying the pass was too hard. That made me even more mad. Was it bollocks too hard. It was a perfect lay off.

Look scared to strike the ball properly because of his toe. Really shouldn't have started.

He's a professional and should know better than to play with an injury, shockingly bad tonight and should at least hold his hands up and forego his wages, maybe even donate then to charity - he certainly hasn't earned it this week.

The warning signs were there when we heard he hadn't trained leading up to the game. Taking an injection was another gamble that failed to work out.

There's no point of slagging him off too much because he's been one of our best this season. But tonight, he hindered us as much as he helped us. When he isn't quite right he produces a display like that. His normal shooting ability just wasn't there.

How often does Roo actually deliver a piece of "last minute magic" while injured?

"World class"

Moyes shouldn't have left him on, but Rooney shouldn't have been so awful. Moyes kowtowing to him is embarrassing. No man is bigger than Manchester United, except Rooney for Moyes.

Moyes has made Rooney bigger than himself, so what more can he do? Rooney was awful tonight. Clearly he's not captain material when he goes sulking and throwing the ball away at every opportunity when he deems the match lost. Look at Valencia towards the end for the complete opposite (not arguing the slightest that he should be captain, btw)

He doesn't pick the team.

Lack of technique showed tonight. Persie would have produced something with that early chance.

Nah you can't blame him for wanting to play - he probably has enough self-belief to think he can still make a positive contribution.

Moyes should have made the call really - but again, it's probably hard to drop your star man.

I'm always the one raving about him when he plays well but he was dreadful today imo.
Missed a couple of golden opportunities and thinking back we might have gone through it was painful. Moyes should not have played him but at the same time caf would have exploded like fire for leaving our best available player out. Shit situation.

The ideal scenario was subbing him off in the 2nd half.

Having a player like Rooney is usually fine. Having him as a player manager... not so much.

Our internet super-fans are disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. Continually looking to destroy and scapegoat our players.

Moyes has forced Rooney to play through an injury, potentially harming the team and the player's career, and people are destroying the player. This place is just horrific at times.

Yeah, I'm sure Rooney really had to be forced.

It's not Rooney's fault that Moyes dared not sub him. He possibly shouldn't have gone with him in the first place. That being said, his world class moments are few and far between. Definitely overrated in general as well as on the Caf.

Calm down mate, I don't want to sell either.

Stop jumping to bizarre conclusions.

Fwiw, RVP was sensational in the game he missed a sitter.
Alright. Most people on here would of course jump on his back, people saying we should have sold him based off of one performance is ridiculous though. I love RVP but with his age, injury record, I'd be for him being sold. Both him and RVP will always start when fit, but Mata should be our first choice #10 and with Rooney extending his contract, I can't see any other option. Unless they're both content with rotating around, being played out of position or on the bench occasionally.

He's arguably the most overrated player in the world. Hasn't been consistently great since 2011 and was awarded with the best contract in the history of PL. Stupidity.

He wasn't unfit, he trained yesterday like any other player(as videos and photos proved) and he stayed on the pitch for entire game even though it was quite obvious we aren't going to score 2. Unfit Rooney would be substituted when the game was already lost. It's just poor excuse, he was shit in the first game too, our worst player over two legs. The one who makes roughly same as the likes of Kagawa, Welbeck, and Smalling combined together.

Rewatching the clip, there was really no excuse to why Rooney would miss such a chance. He could have even held the ball up and position himself for a better finish. Beside the other chances he had, his performances was dire.

Moyes should have not played him if his injury would affect his performance. However, since he played the full 90 minutes, I doubt he was injuried to begin with. In conclusion, terrible performance from a player that is capable of doing much better.

It's unbelievable that some people want us to sell RVP, when SAF bought him because of nights like tonight, regarding Rooney .

I tend to agree with this, there is no deying he was shocking but he should not of played the whole game.

Poor lil Wayne being forced to play through the pain by big bad Moylesy. Boo fecking hoo. If it's so bad that you can't actually strike a frigging ball then you walk off injured, you don't continue to play as a liability to the rest of the team.

What would you do, sell Rooney instead? And you're saying it like RVP has never missed a sitter in a big game before. Last season away to Real Madrid ring any bells? They're both world class players, but there's no room for both of them. And there's not much between them as much as Rooney's haters like to say he's shit.

I'm sorry but comparing Rooney's performance today to RVP's last season at Madrid just based on the chance RVP missed is the wrong way to do it. There's a world of difference between their performances in respective games.

Anyone still thinking the injury was an invention is utterly retarded. How many times did he simply refuse to put his foot through the ball?

Did I hear the commentator blame Welbecks pass for Rooneys miss? Or am I imagining that? Rooney gets so much protection from the media.

It's people slagging him off for missing a chance. Obviously RVP was great in that game, but in the end, he still missed the decisive chance.
