I was in the camp that said sell him in the summer and I still am not convinced he'll be here after this season, but he was vital yet again today in all 3 of our goals, he's the one player we have to keep fit if we are to keep up the winning momentum.

He's bit of a cnut no doubt once again he's shown his versatility. Played as the AM, then a CM and then a winger after Welbeck got injured.

He should get the captains armband IMO. He's more of a captain on the pitch then anyone else in the team, has been for the last few years not counting last season. If the media was the same as it was during busby's era so we didn't hear about every little thing he does, he would be classed as a united legend easily. Just because he wanted to leave (because let's be honest, sir Alex wasn't using him very well) though people will always be little babies and hold a grudge like immature children.

Good performance, but he looked tired towards the end when he just stopped pressing their midfielders, that's why I think we defended so deep and Moyes decided to move him wide for few minutes, and put welbeck in the middle.

I'd be livid if I was Rooney if we don't sign a midfielder in January. I know every player should do their bit for the team, and he's most certainly done that this season (and more!) but in January we have the chance to at least get an extra body in just so Rooney doesn't have to play in midfield every game.

We need to get him tied down to another long contract it would boost everyone in the team imo. If we can win the next few games and release the news just before we play Chelsea that would be an ideal way to use the news to spur us on. I think he gets on well with Welbeck which is why their partnership tends to look good and plus they tend to swap round alot when of course Rooney isn't needed in midfield.

Its actually 15 assists and 11 or 12 goals I think. Who scored doesn't count a lot of then for some reason, there's 4 debatable ones but that would bring his total up to 19 not down to 11.

Oh right. Either way it's brilliant. I guess the debatable ones would be shots vs that the keeper saves and someone scores the rebound?

Yeah, that or when he hit the post and someone finished it. Whoscored doesn't count crosses for own goals as assists for some reason.

He's doing great work for us at the moment, and that was just such a beautifully struck goal today. Good stuff.

Having one of his best seasons for us since he was played up front as our main striker 2-3 years ago. Unfortunately, we did not win the league back then either. Not saying we can't this year, but its odd how when he is the main man we don't win as many trophies.

For his goal I thought we had not scored the way he just turned away. Still has the petulant side to him but, then again so does RVP and we could do with a bit of nastiness in our team, just maybe not from our talismans.

He was clearly frustrated today. Can't blame him.

Not really based on today's match, but I always feel like Rooney enjoys playing with Welbeck up front the most. Those two have combined well together since the start of the 2011/2012 season and the signing of RVP broke that up, but they seem to love playing alongside each other. Can't help but feel we've benefitted from this partnership getting more time in recent weeks.

Welbeck has always linked up well with Rooney. Welbeck is a very willing runner and often stretches the defence and allows Rooney more space. I think they are the best match we have up front. Obviously RVP is more than key but in terms of a partnership, I think they suit each other the best.

Definitely. They also have a touch of the Cole & Yorke combination play when they exchange quick one-two's. Villa the other week and Swansea earlier this season come to mind, or Everton in 11/12, as examples of one giving the ball to the other and immediately setting off in behind to get the return ball.

Still watching that strike. It was as though the ball was just there and he said to himself, stuff it, will just score and get it over with. As soon as he lined it up, it was a goal.
