He can literally play well anywhere. He's a unique player and very selfless on the pitch; off of it, well we all know that story.

I have said for years that Rooney will eventually play the Scholes' deep lying playmaking position because of his ridiculous passing range and aggression. Of course he has lots to work on (touch, keeping things simple, defensive awareness) but I do see him down the line.

I also think that his very best position is the main striker. His movement, finishing and heading is fantastic and he is big enough to not get bullied by huge defenders.

I do rate him as a second striker but I don't think it's his best position. Hell I'd have Kagawa or even RVP as the support striker with Rooney up top. But it's all in opinions and we will debate till the cows come home.

Don't know about captaincy but he's one of the few who looks like he gives a damn.
They all give a damn. Hernandez who won us 2 points gives a damn. Rvp who got a goal and an assist give a damn.

Fellani may well end up a useful midfielder for us...but Rooney is the closest we have to Scholes. The sacrifice is of course not having him up front. But we have several strikers.
If Moyes tells him to play there we won't have a choice, I know he wants to play up front but he needs to understand that he can also influence the game from the middle.

Rooney's much more like Gerrard than Scholes IMO and has most of the same flaws when played in the middle. We've already got Giggs doing most of the stuff he does in there.

Rooney as full time captain? Don't be silly. By the time Vida is no longer captain he will probably have been displaced by Evans, who will be a far better choice than Rooney as captain.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with this.

At this point in his career he definitely more like Gerrard. I do think Rooney has more football intelligence and can develop into a smart deep-lying playmaker like Scholes.

Off topic, nice birthday cake he got from his family. United everywhere in it :D

Its almost as if you haven't been watching the last few United games ;)
Its just his first few games. He'll improve. Even if he doesn't end up great defensively he'll end up better in that respect than a striker.

His best assist this season thus far? Touch inconsistent, but the assist was excellent. Almost into double figures now, which is great.

Yeah that was a really, really nice pass for Fabio's, good finishing as well but the pass was perfect. Reminded me of the one for RvP against Villa last season (RvP's second goal ).

Nice assist, but did feck all the rest of the time. Wtf was the point in bringing him on? We're up 2-0 at home against a team devoid of any confidence or ability for that matter, and you put on Rooney - what for? Why not have players not given as much game time get some. Rooney really has Moyes eating out of his hand.

Just keeping him sharp probably. I'm surprised how much it bothers you.

You're address the whole situation like you know what Rooney's influence is over Moyes which in all fairness, you do not. Rooney came on the 81st minute if i remember correctly and was probably brought on for some experience in the center of the park. He didn't do feck all? What did you expect him to do when Norwich already conceded defeat and were 2 goals behind? Yet he got an assist this game. Almost everything you'd expect from a substitute in this situation no?

It bothers me because there are so many players who need game time, and Rooney doesn't. No need to keep him sharp at all. On top of that, to accomodate Rooney, Januzaj had to move out to the right. If anything, Kagawa should've come on instead of Rooney - he needs to be played into form. There was nothing to suggest that Rooney had to come on, at all.

Agree with this. Just ridiculous.

Who on the bench? Anderson. It's not like we had youngsters on the bench to give minutes to. Not at all bothered by the sub.

Yes, he did make a very fine assist, which I said, but apart from that he did feck all. There was no need for that experience, and he offered little of it. It was a cowardly move from Moyes, imo, and I think I'm entitled to that opinion. I know just as little as you do about their relationship, but I think this is a forum where opinions are shared?

That of course begs a different question - why was the bench the way it was? Also, shunting Januzaj out wide wasn't a good idea either. Let him play in his favoured position for the entire match - he deserved it - played well. Ando could well have come on earlier. I would rather see Valencia as well - boost his confidence. That Rooney substitution was as pointless as it could be. Moyes' substitutions seems ridiculous to me, thus far. It's probably not Rooney's fault, so I'm blaming stupidly cowardly tactics from Moyes.

Rooney is actually a player who needs a lot of playing time to remain sharp. He doesn't really tire, his fitness levels seem to go down if he's rested really. That other players 'need' playing time more than him doesn't come into the equation for me, he's one of the most important ones to keep fit. I recognize that Kagawa, Nani, etc. may have needed it more than him, but in fairness I'd rather have a 100% Rooney this weekend cos he played 20 minutes this weekend than anything else.

But I guess people love to moan about him for more or less anything at the moment.

I think he's an utter twat, but he's a good footballer. That said, this was Moyes' stupid decision, and one that shouldn't have been made. Rooney doesn't need to play twice a week to stay sharp; if he does, he has a serious problem.

Rooney is exactly the sort of player you need to keep sharp, the more games he plays the better, what's the actual problem? Oh, and Kagawa wasn't on the bench anyway.

How does he have 'a serious problem'? That makes absolutely no sense at all. Players are different from one to another. Rooney needs to play a lot to stay sharp. That's it. He played 20 minutes. Seriously, I don't even know why we're discussing this.

If he needs to play twice a week to stay sharp he either has a mental or a physical problem, and one that causes a problem for the team. How and why should you accomodate so much game time for one player when the team has the biggest squad in the league and other players are now starting to show their concerns with little game time. That makes it a big problem for the club. If you fail to see that, you should think about the whole squad and not just about Rooney.

Yeah, who else was on the bench today? Did not see the point in him coming on, the game was won, and others needed the minutes more then Rooney for sure. He does more running in training then in a match like today. Anyway, nice assist, but a pointless cameo.

He's saying that he would rather see players who needs game time over someone who played 90 minutes a couple of days ago.

Bloody Moyes, winning 4-0 and having the nerve to play our best players. The fans are the ones who know which players need game time and minutes, not you. cnut.

How the hell can you complain about that sub? He got us an assist and played well. There really is no need complain about that other than the fact one may think he's a twat. Kagawa has played 3 games in a row and can afford to have a rest. Fabio and Anderson both came on, they need game time too yet you don't give Moyes credit for that do you Rossa?

That sort of thinking renders this entire forum redundant. Great argument that.

It's your thinking that would worry me as you're clearly having some sort of breakdown due to the inane fact Moyes brought Rooney on.

This is nitpicking at its finest; boost his confidence? Rooney came on 10 minutes from the end 2-0 up against Norwich. How on earth would that have given confidence to Valencia exactly? The stupidity of the caf has stretched far of recent times.
