Would be funny if he ends up staying and the entire stadium boos the hell out of him in the next home game. It'd be like "feck you Wayne, we can play games too :D ". Just for the one game though.

Why would they give him a warm reception one week then boo the next week..? Makes no sense at all.
He got a very special treatment the other day, mate. I'd suggest he doesn't even deserve to be treated like the rest of the team. They haven't come off throwing hissy fits last season. My personal take would be to just be indifferent towards him, accept he's here and in time if he shows commitment to the club then cheer him on (although I wouldn't).
Is a fairly standard reception to a player who has given service really 'very special treatment'? It's not as though fans came out of the stands to roll out a red carpet and throw rosepetals at his feet. Bit of an overreaction imo.

Giving him a warm reception against Chelsea strengthened our bargaining position and must have allayed some fears in his mind about how he would be received by the crowd and made him less likely to push for a move. Now after the transfer window closed, no harm in telling him our true feelings for one game against the lowly Crustal Palace. All in good fun. It will be like the whole of Old Trafford conspired to make him stay.

He got the sort of treatment any player who performs like Rooney does on the pitch for us would get. Forgive me and everyone else for not bringing the fecking soap opera reactions into the stadium with us.

I thought it was more than a 'standard reception', a lot of people joined in but some didn't as they probably stand by what ever they said in May, we will probably see something similar on Sunday as he will be getting abuse from the dippers.

Are you actually this deluded? The only soap opera "reaction" here has been from Rooney from the fag end of last season onwards due to no longer being the main man at old Trafford AFTER a significant drop in performance levels. Get your head out from under the sand man. He didn't get any normal treatment. It's laughable that you can't even acknowledge that. He clearly got a special reaction from the fans. At least others have given some possible explanations behind why fans may have done that.

I think Moyes has played a blinder with this whole Rooney situation. He couldn't have inherited a trickier sitiuation and in my opinion, he's handled it perfectly: stressing how highly he rates Rooney, while nevertheless making it clear that the team is bigger than Rooney. As mentioned, his bringing him back into the side, a difficult balancing act, has so far been handled very well.

Our transfer activity (or lack thereof) has been disappointing, but from a purely managerial standpoint, I think Moyes has made a great start to his United career.

Moyes doesn´t sign players THE Equalizer does!

He got a solid reception because A)he has been and is one of our best players over the past few years and B)we want him to stay. There's nothing "abnormal" about that reaction. Any player who is as good as he is would get that show of support. He got a warmer reception than he might normally get, yes, but this is normal in this situation. To stay neutral like some weird robots would be an abnormal reception.

Why does this make you so upset?

Pretty much every player gets their name sung/called but, in all sports the stadium going fans throw their support or anger towards the most important players on the pitch. Rooney probably got the the support he did for multiple reasons

1) Important game and getting him feeling loved might push him - which seemed to have worked - yay for United
2) For some even if they have to go against what they believe maybe by showing he is wanted, Rooney doesn't have an added excuse to push for a move
3) Some people just don't give a feck about what is going on off field and their are so many half truths and made up bs - that all they care about is what has transpired over the last 9 years on the field by the player - which is a lot of heart, effort and contribution to the club's success.

Whatever their reasons were, I for one am glad because it stirred out a very good performance and knowing Rooney - he will definitely kick on from here.

The old Trafford crowd has far more class than to boo one of its own.

All the time he's putting a shift in on the pitch for the team he should be cheered along with every other player.

Giggs was booed and it was because of poor form, for a long time. I think if Rooney says anything remotely positive about settling down for the season, the fans will be behind him.

Never give up hope.

I'd sell him to any club in the world but Chelsea - because that's where he wants to go.

Fergie would never have kept him this summer imo

Even though he was adamant saying Rooney would "be here next year"

Imagine his confusion when, already angry and confused as clearly seen by him trying to split Ashley Cole in two parts five minutes into the game, both sets of fans started chanting his name.

It would have been absolutely beautiful to be inside the head of Wayne there and then. I bet his brain exploded into a billion questions, all at once, before some electric signal prompted his muscles to turn his face into a smile.

I know him and cole are close but I didn't know they were that close!! Or that wayne was that big!!

What I liked about the tackle was that he found his man with a pass after. Far too often players win the ball and wack it to noone in excitement.

Has he said he is happy yet? Or still sulking because he's at Manchester United.

I can tell by that picture that he didn't want to be here.

Poor Wayne. Looks like he's about to burst into tears in that pic.

Fergie's probably got a gun pointed at his head and he's managed to squeeze out a feeble smile.

Rumors are that Rooney is out tomorrow due to being booted in the face in training - Hospital and stitches etc...

See if just twitter bollocks or turns out to be true.
