Good performance tonight. Still wayward at times but his game is high risk by nature. He should have fed Van Persie when he took on that long range strike but was pleased with the technique on it nevertheless.

Brilliant to see him driving our counter attack in the last minutes. It summed up his night, for me.

I think his tackle on Ramires summed it up even better.

I still can't believe so many are happy to see him go even if it means Chelsea.
This. It absolutely mystifies me that so many on here seemed fine with even letting him go to Chelsea if no one else wants him. He's just far too good to let go and most certainly not to Chelsea.

Typical Wayne Rooney thread.

Now that the game is over, his good game will slowly be forgotten and will receive abuse throughout the week until our next game and then a few minutes of "best player on the pitch" and so on.

Top performance from the guy. The effort was there for all to see when the spot light was most definitely on him.
Interesting to see people joining the "Rooney to stay" bandwagon - as if a performance like that was needed to see his quality he possesses.

Best performance I've seen from him in a while. Genuinely surprised by the performance today. By this performance no doubting he'll be committed if the window closes and he's still here.

Fantastic performance today! This is the Rooney we want to see, the one that actually give a shit, well done lad.
And to think that someone still thinks (Jose, yes you.) that he will be sold to chelsea

Not even kidding. Played really well, more than made it clear he should have started, but we're well into the "life beyond Wayne Rooney phase". The chances of him still being here in 2 or 3 years are slim to none. Maybe none to none.

Chelsea will bid again and unless Wayne wants to come out and say he not only wants to stay, but wants to sign a contract that just extends his current deal and he has no intention of leaving in the future, get him sold. After all that he'll probably still try and leave in a couple of seasons, but it'd be better than nothing

Very good performance. Should be kept anyhow. Selling him to Chelsea will be like gift wrapping title to them.

Our best attacker today, particularly in the second half. However, he was partly responsible for RvP's isolation from the rest of the team today. There wasn't good communication between them.

Yeah best he's played in ages

I can't remember the last time he looked that motivated. It's all well and good that he has this top level, but that doesn't mean anything if he doesn't apply it most of the time.

If Rooney continues on like that I'll have no problem with him staying, I won't like him still but I'll support him. I have a feeling we won't see the Rooney of today too often though.

He was great today, showed everyone how good he is when he is up for it, for those who might have forgotten ( i.e. most people on here). Would be a huge mistake to let him go to Chelsea, and if he has to leave then sell him to Madrid or psg a year from now.

Very good performance from him tonight. Looked sharp at the start and quite motivated and a very good performance all-round from him.

Should've been given MOTM. Impressed by him tonight given what we all know about his wishes for the future.

Fully agree with this post.

He might not be in the very top bracket of players, but if anyone thinks we have enough players of his quality to afford losing him, they're bonkers.

Mourinho on Rooney: "Probably now he has decides he wants to stay."

And that should be that :D

Really? You'd be happy for him to play like that all season then leaves in the summer for half a handful of peanuts?

Good comments from Mourinho tbh he was quite respectful to the club and fans.

Mourinho: "This must be a very special club because in every [other] club in the world, when a player wants to leave they don’t support him"

Actually Mourinho's comments pile on the pressure for Rooney to come out and say he wants to stay, something he's needed to do all summer
