one of the criteria for selection for games is form on the training pitch. Players sometimes get picked for games because they have been training exceptionally well.

Thinking about it, Rooney actually looks quite a lot like trollface...

More likely he'd jog off with his head down and raise his hands in apology to the travelling Chelsea fans.

Why are people thinking it is choice between Rooney and Welbeck tonight? We can easily play both with RvP as we did on so many occasions last season.

With Hernandez, Nani and Young all injured that would leave our attacking reinforcements a bit thin on the ground, in the event of injury to a forward or necessary tactical switch who would you bring on?

Even were Rooney not embroiled in this transfer situation Moyes shouldn't be starting him tonight.

I will have Kagawa and Zaha as players to bring on later. You should always put your strongest XI on pitch first and later worry about who can be brought on under particular circumstances. In some close games, unless it was absolutely needed, SAF didn't use subs at all.

A Rooney winner today would be quite something. Then for him to rip off his jersey and run to Jose with a "Once a Blue, Always a Red" tshirt underneath

Twenty minutes against Swansea and a crap hour on behalf of England hardly make Rooney a certain candidate for our strongest XI, this only more so with an opponent carrying such potential for a conflict of interests.

Then there is the usual lag in Wayne finding his form as well as how his touch can desert him these days, by no means a sure-fire decision fir Moyes.

The alternatives are Giggs or Kagawa IMO. Kagawa too hasn't had lot of game minutes. Rooney should make the XI, no doubt. Only thing which matters is, is he in right frame of mind?

He got off the team bus and smiled. It's all good.

There is no down-side? He's not match-fit is he? And asking him to contribute effectively against a side he wishes to join?

sorry for late reply mate - been travelling to Manchester for the match.

He must be pretty fit - put in a shift at England and Swansea. He looked good last weekend. Asking him to contribute is exactly what we should do. Give him some time in the match - he plays well: his value increases (in many senses); he plays badly and it'll shut Jose up and give him something to think about. I'd start him (assuming, as you say, he's got decent level of fitness)
