Mourinho's just upset because he wasn't even second choice for the job he craved.

So, which set of fans will cheer/boo him tonight when the teams are read out?

Well you lot irrationally boo most opposition players, so I don't see why that would change.

That said, Wayne's not black/your manager, so he may escape your fans' ire.

It's matter of principle now that we don't sell him to Chelsea. Like others have said, Mourinho is throwing his toys out the pram because we overlooked him for the job.

SAF was right to start Welbeck against Madrid last year, Welbeck played a stormer. I think Danny will get the nod tonight with Rooney on the bench.

Rooney has an excellent record vs Chelsea and I think its just what he needs to get back into the Utd spirit of things. I'd play him and Welbeck behind/to the side of RVP.

Daniel Taylor said:
You feel that however sullen, however egotistical, Rooney might seem at times, there is something in his DNA which precludes him from giving anything less than 100 per cent on a football field.

If that were true, I wouldn't have criticised him (in this thread).

Moyes should let Rooney start. If he plays a blinder then we will most likely claim 3 points, if he's shit then Moyes decision to keep him as 2nd choice striker is vindicated. It's time for Wayne to feel a bit of the heat.

The situation we now find ourselves in is this: unless Wayne starts, he'll make it obvious that he's angry/unhappy. This can't go on - ideally, players should be selected on form only.

Not really, SAF was never afraid to tell form to feck off in favour of just selecting his best players when fit/available.

True, mate. I've never been convinced that's the right thing to do though. Still he's Sir Alex Ferguson, whereas I'm merely the Vanilla Ice of the internet.

Rooney will never give his 100% to us, for me it's always loss loss situation

You lot do remember his form pre transfer request in 2010 right?

He was appalling then when he wanted to leave...Why, with the same scenario, would we make that mistake again by selecting him against one of our rivals for the title?

in an ideal world yes, but there are allot of factors in the mix like opposition, formation, tactics and whoever else is playing. But like somebody said earlier SAF often used the starting lineup and bench to prove a point or to make a public statement. Starting Wayne would be making a public, yet risky statement. Not starting him means this fiasco just goes on.

Statements are a waste of time, as the player is under contract. Still, if Wayne starts for football reasons, no-one can have any argument with that; I certainly won't.

EDIT: Looks like Wayne's in the squad (according to a tweet from a journalist):

Nah, Chelsea just paid an extra £1m for delivery, that's all.

They'll take him home with them.

I don't think Rooney will really want to play tonight. He's tried his best to not appear non committal all summer in case he's forced to stay. If he were to score tonight what would his reaction be? It's one thing excusing him not celebrating last week but it would be a complete shitstorm if it were to happen tonight.

Sure, but I don't think his professional employment contract with us allows him to not want to play whenever he pleases.

Why are people thinking it is choice between Rooney and Welbeck tonight? We can easily play both with RvP as we did on so many occasions last season.

He played quite well in the last game. Better than Giggs or Kagawa in their last couple of games.
