Wayne Rooney | 2012-14 Performances

This guy better come all guns blazing on monday night if he still wants to be considered as one of the best.. He has it easy because it's basically one game and most of us would be OK afterwards if he produces a stellar performance.. Hopefully the game will mirrow our away game against them from last season.

v.Persie and Rooney both were unstoppable and hopefully the management has been showing the team that game all week long.

So, is he gonna play Monday?

I'm gonna go with an 'injury' in training over the weekend.

Mirror Sport understands Jose Mourinho has been told that Manchester United ARE prepared to do business - but only if they can find a replacement for the unsettled striker.

The Special One has made clear his intention to make a third approach for Rooney before the transfer window slams shut, with sources close to the club suggesting it would be at a ceiling of around £30million.

If that is the ceiling then i suggest they bust through into the loft.

We should tell him that he needs to score a hattrick for us against Chelsea for us to consider letting him go within this transfer window.

Chelsea were clearly a bit peeved to say the least when the Mata/Luiz + cash for Rooney rumours came out in preseason, and came out aggressively denying it rather quickly, so if Mou wants to play dirty we shouldn't give them a free ride. Bid £20m for Mata if they bid for Rooney again, or at least say they offered him to us again.

I wouldnt call him a genius for those Rooney comments.

But I would call it a smart move.

For all the skills he has on the football pitch, Rooney is as dense as they come. And he fell for those comments hook, line and sinker.

I must have imagined Everton's statement calling your bid " derisory and insulting" then.

£12m for Baines and £16m for Fellaini is considerably closer to their respective values that £25m for Rooney.

Mourinho's embarrassing himself a little bit, because he keeps harping on despite it being abundantly clear that we're not selling. His desperation is understandable, mind, because your existing striking options are terrible.

Same.

Wouldn't it be refreshing if Moyes said, "the fat cnut threw a wobbler, so we've dropped him. I'm not bothered in any case, because RvP's form shits on Wayne's from a great height in any case."

If the Maureen really wants Rooney then he has to pay the price that we are comfortable with.....so anything less than £40 (IMO) they can bugger off.

I would also find £20m plus Mata to be acceptable.

£10m + Mata would be more then acceptable for me... hell, I'd probably take £5m + Mata... basically, anything + Mata.

Ultimately though, they'll bid just over £40m, we might sell or we might not, and that'll be that.

I was at the Chelsea Villa game last night, and the lack of a top class striker will probably end up being the difference between 3rd place (as the squad stands now) and challenging for the title IMO. It would be utter madness to sell Rooney to them, regardless of who we bring in.

Pretty sure they'll buy someone anyway, even if they're not on Rooney's level. If Arsenal receive some encouragement with their Benzema bid, wouldn't be surprised to see Chelsea then get involved. Or they might bid for that Porto bloke who scored over 30 goals last year.

I agree. They are a centre forward away from being true challengers. I think they will challenge, but the lack of an all-out scorer I think will be what makes them fall short, though not by much. I'd rather keep a sulky Rooney away from them for at least a season and maybe he'll change his tune, or maybe he'll leave for £20million next summer.

This summer has been tough with all the change and transition. It felt like our summer didn't start until July, and then pre-season immediately happened. I think we'll be better prepared to replace him next summer with Moyes settled and no gap between the season ending and the manager getting on with things. If we even need to replace him by then...

Better still. We should not reject their bid outright. just keep the issue dangling, and on the last day, ask them to feck off.

Yes, this please. Oh it would be so sweet, no time for any other targets for them. Make it happen Woody!

Transfer deadline day/night is gonna be a monstrous affair, not just for us but clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea too.

I can see the Rooney affair going to the wire and for us United fans it will either be agony a joyous time as we had when Berba signed.

The Berba window was on a whole new level. Joyous is a bit far fetched to describe how I'll feel if we end up keeping Rooney.

Imagine if Chelsea make their next bid for him on Monday afternoon. Would be just like the cnuts to do that, despite Jose saying they'll do it after the game.

Cant see it happening, not with that Woodward twat.

It was joyous (and at times nail biting stuff), probably because he turned down the millions from City to join us..

Genuinely speaking the only thing I care about is Rooney not going to another English team. If Real Madrid came in and said we'll give you £20m plus Modric on deadline day I'd be all over that.

we should tell them
You can have rooney for £100m + mata + hazard or feck off

and see how they react (sometimes I do wish we had our own levy - he's playing a stormer atm)

Going by some of the reports over last couple of days, it looks like his move to Chelsea is a definite possibilty. A week prior it seemed as if Chelsea is definitely not an option for us to sell to.

But you have to question where all these reports are coming from (most likely chelsea TBF).
The more and more I read about transfers the more I start to believe that all the journos are just as clueless as the rest of us.

I really hope that is the case and we kick their offer as soon as it is received.

The credible ones at the major papers have an insight. They attend all the pressers, follow the clubs on tour and at away European games and even no doubt have contacts at the clubs. The Press Officer's at the clubs themselves probably like to keep certain Journo's close because it helps them to control what goes into the papers - probably feeding them info to suit their own agenda.

Credible Journalists will rarely tell you something is definantely going to happen - only that talks are ongoing or something may be in the offing. Some will take that as them being non-committal or making stuff up but a lot of the time it just reflects the reality of modern transfers - they're complicated to get done and things change probably day to day.

Rooney can go to Chelsea if Mata comes the other way. Seems Jose doesnt fancy him.
