We are not going to sell to Chelsea. Not sure why they are going to bid unless they are offering us Mata.

I can't believe they've offered 25 mill for him. He's been the face of the club for a decade now, he's a fantastic player, he's only 27 and still has a couple of years left on his contract. 25 mill is a piss take.

That's brilliant from Mourinho. Unsettles the player without actually having to make a bid, and likely means Moyes won't start Rooney.

Just by uttering a few words in a post match interview. That's why he's world class.

"We will not bid for Rooney again until after Monday, this is ethical, and the board agrees with me."

You may as well just bid now, Jose.

We should bid for all Chelsea's good players. Just for the sake of it.

But yeah, Mou is brilliant at this kind of things.

He wasn't going to start, anyway.

Didn't you lot offer £20 million for Fabregas and about £600,000 & a 12 month subscription to MUTV for Baines?

We have tyres that we can throw into the deal now.

He's already unsettled and he wasn't going to start against Chelsea, but yeah world class by Mourinho.

He's world class because he can act like a cock insulting everyone's intelligence for no apparent reason or gain?

Has Rooney somehow been completely unaware that Chelsea are attempting to sign him until Mourinho just said that then?

For someone who's supposedly such a genius he's been pretty regularly coming out with some bafflingly stupid comments over the past couple of years. I'm begining to think it's for no other reason than to lap up the idiots who love him for it.

Are you a journalist by any chance? Sounds like the sort of shite we'd hear from them.

Mourinho has shaped the narrative with those comments.

Fergie was a master of that too. Maybe it means nothing, and has no actual value.

Do bids for a player really 'unsettle' the player so much that he can't play a game of football? Especially if the club he plays for has repeatedly said he won't be sold? I reckon a player not playing because he's 'unsettled' is more down to the club not wanting him to be injured so they can get as much money as possible. But then again, I give footballers a little more credit on their mentality.

So rather than submit an official bid before the match that would be quickly and publically declined, he's publically stated his intention to do so after the match, continuing the speculation in the media. Very considerate of you, Jose :smirk:

I must have imagined Everton's statement calling your bid " derisory and insulting" then.

What? Your post was full of shit.

Wayne Rooney is a completely different ball game to Leighton fecking Baines and Fellaini. He's the fecking star of one of the most popular and successful teams in the history of the sport, and you're bidding 25 fecking million.

Manchester United WILL okay Wayne Rooney's Chelsea transfer as long as they can replace him
Chelsea have been offered a glimmer of hope in their bid to sign Wayne Rooney.
Mirror Sport understands Jose Mourinho has been told that Manchester United ARE prepared to do business - but only if they can find a replacement for the unsettled striker.
The Special One has made clear his intention to make a third approach for Rooney before the transfer window slams shut, with sources close to the club suggesting it would be at a ceiling of around £30million.
Champions United have already made contact with the west Londoners to make clear their position, but without slamming the door totally shut.
Manager David Moyes is becoming increasingly irritated with the constant chatter linking his centre-forward with the Stamford Bridge club, and increasingly frustrated at having to deal with the issue.
He wants to concentrate on his own search for the new signings he promised to make before the window shuts, and United have made clear his feelings in conversations with the Blues' hierarchy.
The situation is complicated because Rooney wants a new contract if he stays, and United are determined to wait to see if he deserves a new deal - and a pay-rise on his already eye-watering £250,000-a-week salary.
Moyes though, knows he can’t allow one of his biggest stars to leave before he has a marque signing lined up to appease the fans and offer a serious declaration of intent.
The problem though, is two-fold.
The Scot has failed in a succession of bids to get new signings in, the latest becoming an embarrassment when Everton called the slightly bizarre £28m double offer for Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini “derisory and an insult”.
Moyes is preparing another, improved bid for the pair, but he also wants an attacking midfielder who can play in the role he planned for Rooney -behind Robin van Persie.
Might be some truth in the Özil rumours...

That's what makes him world class? Really?

Rooney was never going to start against Chelsea anyway. Some of you take these mind games too seriously.

feck me, had a good chuckle at this.

Use of the passive voice is a neat trick here by the Mirror, allows them to say shit like Mourinho "has been told that MUFC are prepared to do business" without even saying who told him that! It could have been Jose's milkman for all we know.

I've said all summer Rooney won't go to Chelsea. JM comments don't change that opinion. Perhaps he should look at the RVP situation last season and question why.
