 Andy gray showed himself up to be a clueless twat for a moment there in that link. For anyone who hasn't listened to it, he said to Peter "Don't you think if United didn't want to sell Rooney then Moyes would have come out at the beginning of the summer and say categorically that we don't want to sell him..."

He's obviously not heard Moyes speak.

So Rooney has travelled. If he gets on the pitch, is he going to get booed by our away support? He'll obviously no longer be a fan favourite, but I hope we can just let him get on with it and support the team, rather than pick out individuals. I can't see our support doing what Liverpool fans did and be forgiving and Rooney, hoping that he stays. I think we did that in 2010, though it was clear back then, with how quickly it was resolved, that he was never really going anywhere.

What happens when Rooney scores a last minute wonder goal to save us from defeat and win us premiership or CL points? After everything is said and done, all these off season financial shenanigans are quickly forgotten during the adrenalin laced season. And rightly so.

I don't think he'll get booed by United fans. He lost his, "He'd stay with us even if we dropped out of the European places, " "Would play for free," "Jumpers for goalposts," image years ago. He also lost his automatic place in the first XI and for most United fans, his must play irrespective of alternatives so he can play himself into form, protection.

He's just another player now. They come and go. If he scores everyone will cheer. If he doesn't, I doubt he'll get many sympathetic choruses of white Pele though.

This.

And that means I don't 'hate' him either. He's simply like Ji Sung Park or Carlos Tevez, a player I support whilst at our club but wont look at ever again when he leaves.

Which is a shame because he could have had the respect like Robson, Bruce, Cantona, Keane, Ronaldo, Gary Neville or Scholes etc all enjoy after they left the club.

People will be happy we win the game, obviously. I wouldn't expect a Rooney appreciation day declared any time soon though.

We should all be of the mentality of if the player plays for Utd then we support them. Sure we may critise some things players do but when they get out on that pitch they are Utd players and I want them to do well and I'd get behind them. Its quite simple its in our benefit for Rooney to play well as in any other Utd player that helps us play well and acheive our goals of being sucessfull The same applies for other teams players which I may like to watch as soon as they are our opponents I hope they have a disaster.

I don't get some people's opinion on Rooney, they talk like he's gone full Torres and can barely kick the ball straight anymore. Last season was probably his worst ever and he still contributed, even without his goals and assists he played a few cracking games in centre midfield. On the flip side Kagawa is seen as a world class player when in reality, even though Rooney was 'shit' Kagawa didn't do much better.

Rooney started 22 league games, he scored 12 and assisted 10. Even if his all round play was lacking it just goes to show how important he is. People are fecking mad to write him off, I hope he stays and I wouldnt be surprised if he scored 20+ this year.

Yeah but humans tend to forgive and forget... Besides it's only a game and he's no Slobodan Milosovic, I suspect his(Rooney's) crimes against humanity are entirely forgettable.

Exclusive – Schmeichel adamant Rooney will not leave Man United

Richard Keys making a ridiculous argument that Rooney cant be expected to step out at Old Trafford when Sir Alex has told the world he wanted to leave: Rooney has facebook and twitter, at any time he could've said 'I want to stay at United' but he hasn't. Rooney found time to write messages about Roy Hodgson and 'Steven' so why couldn't he, months ago, find a moment to say in 140 characters or less that the speculation around him was rubbish? Pull the other other one please!

Quite.

Go on Keys, just slander Fergie outright and we can get this over and done with.

Ironic to hear the two of them laughing at United's money-spinning tour when the both of them have jetted off to Qatar for a more than lucrative deal i'm sure.

A bit disappointing to hear Schmeichel demeaning himself with such company mind you.

Incidentally, Nick is one of the forum's most intelligent and articulate posters; just because he's not "getting behind Wayne Rooney" doesn't automatically make him a looney. In short, if discerning posters like Nick suspect something is amiss regarding the pro-Rooney PR, then you can be sure that something probably is amiss. It's a cheap, convenient & expedient tactic to label Rooney critics as Rooney haters, and it misses the point completely.

:o I'm just one of the Caf's plodders.

The cheque did arrive then i take it? lol

That's a bit harsh on Park, at least in so far as the manner in which the other two have conducted themselves over the years. Age and his style of play caught up with him in the end unfortunately.

Very disappointed. While I have no great love for Rooney , he can be a very good player but I can't condone his behaviour in any of this, and I would imagine not many could, surely?

What's he done now?

Yeah no way he's going to stay if his demeanor today is anything to go by. I wouldn't want him anywhere near the squad, poisoning it with his emo behavior.

Rooney was clapping and smiling for the RvP goal. Let's not get it twisted.

Food for thought for him though isn't it with Welbeck scoring too.

Rooney is looking intently how the match is going. FFS people need to stop making big deal of every expression or body movement of his!

To be fair, he looks enthusiastic on the bench tonight. Ultimately, the only way we can judge his eagerness to play for us is seeing his performances on the field, and you'd like to think he will be given that chance tonight.

Play him up front when we take off Robin for a well-earned rest, and play Kagawa in the no.10 role behind him. No excuses.

Like Rooney has ever studied anything intently. He's probably trying to figure out why Fergie looks different

If he is to be analyses for everything, apart from being stupidly offside he has looked sharp and had nice touches and passes.

Brilliant finish. What a day it is for our forwards. Rooney has 2 assists and RVP and Welbeck have 2 goals each.
