Everyone knows it takes Rooney about 5 games to come back from any layoff, if he's staying I'm glad England are getting one of those games out of the way.

He was like this every week last season, nothing to do with fitness. Look at Nanis cameo in preseason after being out for ages.

This.

Man needs to sort his thoughts and his physique out to get back to the player we remember him being...

It's times like this when I think we've all seen the best days of Wayne Rooney, would him going to Chelsea be such a bad thing?

We're really slagging off a player who's played just 45 mins of football since May?

If he stays we will have a season of everyone criticising his every move. It's gonna get boring after a while

No one mentions the goal?

Wrongly ruled offside..

Did well, good movement, timed it right, nice chest and finished it well.

Apart from the fact that everyone had stopped playing by the time he'd chested it down.

He did the keeper with the chest, the Scottish defenders were never playing - the movement and pass had done them.

I'm sure if that had been Van Persie we'd have complained about the officials and said how he'd done well.

Only you

feck him

Hernandez will score more goals given similar game time than Rooney ever has

Rooney isn't just about goals though is he, he's a much better all round player than almost anybody in our squad bar RvP.

If he was as dope as a lot make out, big clubs would be in for him, not just Chelsea.

Why doesn't anyone else want this super hard working, goal scoring machine?

That used to be the case but is there any evidence to justify that based on the last season and a half?

Its funny when Rooney was younger people used to say as he got older he'd fall back into midfield but actually the reverse has happened. Increasingly, Rooney does his best work in and around the box using his quick thinking and cleverness to ghost into positions where he can score. Guess nobody factored in his lack of appetite to maintaining his physical fitness, eh?

I rewatched the 2008 CL final a few days ago and the difference between the Rooney of then and now is staggering. He really has dropped a level or two.

Jose's welcome to him as far as I'm concerned.

Thought he was dog shit personally. Just strolled around and was never going to score a goal.

It's his first game since the Brazil friendly if we don't count the one against Betis behind closed doors, so he was always going to be shit in this game. We all know how he is after he returns from injury and the fact that his future is not yet (officially) decided is surely playing its part. His confidence must be low as well.

It's not even just his fitness though, his worst stuff isn't gassing in the 40th minute or anything like that, he just can't control a football or beat a man for his life

Doesn't matter if its the 1st or 90th minute his technique has just seriously deteriorated

He was absolutely shit. Exactly the type of performance that he put in all last season.

Not much love for Rooney from United fans after this game!

Which is understandable. Some of the comments are just plain silly, though. Soon we'll be lucky if we manage to offer him to a Championship side on a free - given how horribly unfit and generally rubbish he is.

Let's remember Rooney made a point of starting England training half an hour early in front of the watching media, he and Hodgson pushed for this appearance whereas another player being more honest with themselves might have stepped back.

So much PR, little substance.

So much PR and then a damp squib to round it all off.

This was Wayne's chance to show everyone, he did nothing.

Hodgson seems to think he can be the one to "re-motivate Wayne"
