After the way the world ridiculed Arsenal for selling us RVP, I can't see Rooney being sold to Chelsea.

Without signing any big names, I don't think Moyes needs any more of the generic football world against him.

I'm sure if Madrid came calling, we'd sell him. But with seemingly only Chelsea involved, he's got to stay?

Yes.

It is a bit strange that no one other than Chelsea have shown interest in Rooney, someone on here was saying his agent might have warned off other clubs from bidding as he's only interested in a move to Chelsea.

There aren't that many options for him abroad given that the top clubs either don't need him or wouldn't have the finances to buy him, the only side I thought might try were Madrid given they've lost Higuain to Napoli and Benzema didn't have a great 2012/13 season. The only 2 clubs that could afford him domestically are Chelsea and City with Chelsea's need for a forward much more pressing.

Other quality strikers were available earlier in the window for lower wages and were snapped up by the clubs that needed them so that might be why there's not more interest.

Michael Owen makes some good points. Of course Rooney wants to play in the big games. The problem is his form over the last 12-18 months hasn't warranted it.
That has just busted the case wide open!

11/12 he scored at an excellent rate vs the 'big teams'. Last season Welbeck started ahead of Rooney in the Madrid game but you would be an utter fool to suggest that Welbeck has been in better form than Rooney in the last 12-18 months (or ever). I don't think his exclusion was based on form. Fergie wanted a fresh team, hence Rooney and Kagawa who played the full 90 vs Norwich (and played excellently) were on the bench.

I'd love to know how much his desire to go to Chelsea is based on footballing reasons. This whole thing started long before Mourinho was destined for Chelsea.

I think the Premier League is on a level playing field and wide open this year with Sir Alex gone. Chelsea have a poor defence man for man. Our midfield is weak. I don't see star quality in too many City players and I can see more issues with egos when players are getting benched for Pellegrini's signings. Arsenal haven't signed anyone. Spurs could lose Bale.

If his footballing reasons are United are in the shit and Chelsea are destined for success for the next 5 years, he's lost his marbles. I do feel a lot of this is down to his relationship with people like Cole and Maureen's "Rooney or Bust" speech. To have that man say those words about you must be insane. Added to his obvious naivety allowing his agent to screw millions out of him, it's obvious they want out for much more than footballing reasons.

I'm gutted a player who's give the service he has is willing to throw away legendary status for a number of non-footballing reasons, from what I can see anyway. I'm no ITK, so take this with a pinch of salt.

Even taking the Mourinho factor out, being the main man in front of Eden Hazard, Juan Mata and Oscar is a fairly compelling football reason.

Still remember Tevez scoring 4 against Blackburn in Cup game and then getting dropped for Berba in the next league game. Fergie, with Rooney especially over the more recent seasons, has not always gone with the form player but, ones he trusts - well maybe likes is more the correct word. I do think once RVP came on board, SAF had got his new favorite and as such was didn't mind rotating Rooney out whereas previously he would have played no matter his form.

Rooney wasn't his best last year but, the season before he was up there with RVP in terms of performances, one of the best players in the league. Can we survive without him? Yes, obviously we can - we did when Ronaldo left and others somewhat filled the void but, lets not be naive - having a Ronaldo in the team last few years certainly would have made us a lot better team. We'd still be a good team with say Welbeck taking Rooney's place but, at least for now we would be a lot better with Rooney.

What are Chelsea going to do with their strikers? I doubt Rooney will want to part of a rotation system.

He is far better than what they have right now. So its the others should be worried if he comes there.

Is Stretford likely to encourage a situation which stifles a bidding war and in so doing the eventual fee for which he receives a percentage?

Why did PSG's interest evaporate so early in the summer, it wouldn't have taken 56m to reach an agreement with the club i'm sure, indeed maybe as much as 20-25m less in fact.

Raphael Hongistein said that the German clubs would be put off Wayne due to his sub-standard application in some areas yet that wouldn't account for the Parisians.

Yep - he would be the main striker. Torres isn't up to it, Lukaku is raw and Ba isn't top class.

Without being too skeptical, I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be close to being up there with his main reasons, nor does it bode well for your current strikers, particularly Lukaku who could rightly kick up a fuss.

‘There have been no direct relations with the player, no contact — absolutely nothing. So let’s see if things change.’

Bullshit.

Could be true though - there might've only been contract with Rooney's agent.

"I will fight to the death to get Rooney, says dogged Mourinho as Chelsea boss continues pursuit of wantaway striker"

Must have been a problem with the Mail's publishing software... it's randomly inserted an extra "taway stri" into that sentence.

I wonder if Stretford kinda says to Rooney: "Just leave everything to me, mate" & is responsible for all the third-party/leaked stuff. This, in theory, means that Wayne can deny everything attributed to him if need be.

More to the weirdness why are you guys reading and recycling the daily mail and it being allowed to by the mods :wenger:.

 Well done.

The only fair deal would be a player exchange plus cash. We have a wantaway striker and they have a surplus of creative midfielders.

Cash does nothing for us.

Only just saw the joke now.

Roy Hodgson has told the Chelsea players in the England squad "not to unsettle Wayne Rooney".

Does he really think Gary Cahill is going to spend the entire time banging on about how nice Eva Carneiro's back rubs are?

That is exactly what is going to happen.

Hodgson said that Rooney is physically fit so it will be interesting to see if he plays at Rio's testimonial or not.

Sure why not? what wrong with that? makes perfect sense to me.

"After knowing him a long time I can assure you he is not bothered about getting a pay rise.
"He's bothered about playing football. He wants to be the main man and wants to be playing in all the big games."

Sorry I didn't make it clear. I was refering to the part "In an ideal world Wayne would love to stay at Manchester United"

I think that part is quite clearly rubbish. In an ideal world he'd still be at Everton, but his greedy demands have led him down a path that will more than likely end up at Kings Road.

Well, it has been quite a successful path for him so far. He's won a European Cup and countless league titles. I wouldn't be surprised to see him end his career at Everton, as it happens. I don't think he is leaving United due to greed, he won't get a more lucrative contract than the one he is on now. There are obviously things that have gone on behind the scenes and when you feel that a relationship is irreconcilable, it's not unreasonable to want to go elsewhere. He is a bit of a cnut, but I'm afraid that doesn't make him distinct from a great many modern footballers.

I'd imagine it's been said on here a hundred times already, and everybody already knows it, but it would quite clearly be absolute madness to sell Rooney to Chelsea. I just can't believe the club would be that stupid.

He has lost the majority of the fans but I still believe that we need him at this club and he can be a big player for us this season.

I don't give a toss how good he is and how much he can help us, if a bid comes in for £30m+, then surely its good business. I know there lots of talk about why would you sell one of your best players to your competition, but Wayne clearly doesn't want to play for the club...so he can feck off.
