Am I alone in hoping we actually keep him?

Moyes says he's not for sale, Rooney hasn't actually said anything in public, and it's possible that he doesn't want to go - until Moyes or Rooney comes out and tells us something, I'm not inclined to trust the British press. They were adamant earlier this summer that we were close to signing Thiago, on numerous occasions, yet the player himself said he never spoke to us.

We don't know what's going on behind the scenes and given the lack of credibility of the journalists, and the pressure they're under to come up with headlines, I think we need to take everything we read - as always nowadays - with a pinch of salt.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - Rooney going to Chelsea is a disaster for us.

But if we wanted to keep him and he wanted to stay why wouldn't he just come out and say that and lay all the rumours to rest?

@Malachians as far as I am aware @rioferdy5 hasn't indicated that he is angry. Nor has anyone els

No surprise. After reading the Independent piece it was quite clear Rooney's 'camp' was rejoicing in these stories as, to their eyes, they give Rooney a credible reason to leave Old Trafford. Wouldn't surprise me if it was Rooney's 'people' who briefed this garbage out about Giggsy, Pat and Rio getting at him. After all the public hasn't bought the blame Fergie, blame Moyes strategy, was only a matter of time before Rooney's 'entourage' claimed someone else was trying to force him out.

Once this line falls flat on its face Rooney's PR will probably claim Mandy Henry's anger at his behaviour has made it impossible to stay at United.

Sell the crock, he's worse than Hargreaves and Johnsen combined.

Hey! Johnsen was a brilliant CB! He struggled with injuries, but never said a bad word about the club and generally played very well when fit. In fact, I would argue that he is mostly underrated by most. Lightning quick and great in the air.

Not the only one but, definitely not the popular thing to say. I do hope he stays as well, so maybe you, me and that one other person.

Of all people to use as the barometer for how angry the players are at Wayne, Rio was the wrong one.

2 mins 10 secs. This is after everything was out in the open earlier in the year and Rio is trying to show his open support for his team mate, trying to keep the fans on side and being drunk.

Bring him to the Caf and show him my posts.........that ought to do it!

I definitely want him to stay. Guess that makes 3 of us.

a fully fit and commited wayne rooney is arguably the best player in the country, i imagine everyone would want to keep that at the club.
the problem is he may never be fully fit and commited here again given that hes seemingly wanted out for quite sometime now and so should he stay we'll get stuck with the lazy half arsed rooney instead, who despite still being an effective footballer is not the type of personality you want at utd.
i dont think he'll fail anywhere he goes, i think the new challenge will fire him up again which is precisely why i want him out of the country and nowhere near london

He's at training.... yes, yes I see its confirmed now. Wayne Rooney has arrived to training, as he does everyday, but anyway, thats the very latest, join us after the break where we expect to be able to bring you the latest updates including what Wayne Rooney has for lunch, and what the potential consequences are for his future at Manchester United.

Here!

Rooney is a cnut, but he's one of our best players. Even if he is replaced by top quality, that other player will most likely be a greedy mercenary too. Why swap one with another when we know how well this cnut works? Many people would have got that emotional about the whole thing if they acknowledged that Rooney represents the modern day footballer. It's actually quite silly to expect them to show loyalty of any sort.

Can anyone offer a bona fide defence of Rooney's feeble participation in our title parade & celebrations? I can't help feeling appalled by his (non)actions but I'm willing to be convinced by something more reasonable than weak excuses.

Half the team are probably complete wankers, who cares as long as they can kick a ball. If we lose him to Chelsea, given that he's still such a good player with a lot of years ahead of him and what he's already achieved here it will be a great shame.

Personally I hope he stays, gets his head down and gets back to being a no brainer first choice.

I hope he stays, but it looks increasingly he will be sold to the chavs. Too much bad blood between Moyes and Rooney and the fans have had enough of his antics.

The club will try and squeeze as much for him as possible and invest in another forward. Though that area looks well stocked even if Rooney leaves. Midfield is where we look light.

Midfield, you say? Interesting. We should get some chat going about that.

He's gonna play against Wigan and hopefully that will be end to this bullshit. He wants a financially good contract that will also guarantee him place in the 1st team.

Moyes probably will grant him that, after he'll return to the optimal form but at the moment, injuries are complicating things and media are using that to add fuel to the fire. When Rooney was in Everton, he was also protected from media by his boss, that's why, we won't hear much about this situation, unless Moyes will be confident about Wayne's motivation to continue his career at Old Trafford.

The departure is of course possible but chances are getting smaller with each day, getting this club closer to the new season.

would anyone else laugh if we had Rooney training alone for two years until his contract ends? Malcolm Glazer is certainly that vindictive as evidenced by his conduct with his sisters over their father's estate, not sure about his kids though.

If you think Rooney doesn't take care of himself now, imagine him without regular football.

I don't agree with this guaranteed first team place, that stinks, he could be awful but has to play. He can get lost if that's his attitude.

No I hope we keep him until the 30th of September at the very least. The longer this drags on, the better chance that he realizes that he's at the right club for him. If he still wants to leave on transfer deadline day though, then I say let Chelsea panic and make them splash top money for him.

The Rooney hates do know that he's a top, top player. Last season was his first "bad" season for us really - and even then he pulled off some impressive statistics. For any other player, that would have been a decent season - but how standards for him are so high.

Rooney doesn't need to tell us his intentions. Even though I can see where Ince is coming from - I don't think that it's a necessity for US as fans to know his stance at this current stage. As long as he's being honest with the club, then that's all that matters. I'm sure Moyes knows his intentions - and I'm sure at the moment Rooney fancies a move away for a new challenge at Chelsea.

I just hope he changes his mind. I'd hate to see him line up against us. You just know he'll be fired up.

I doubt it will be necessary. This is a WC year, and if he doesn't get his act together he'll miss on his last possible chance of a crack at the big tournament.

Agreed, and it's not as if the club isn't taking care of his financial situation quite handsomely already either.

England have got to see out he qualifiers first.

Although the idea of putting a player in the reserves sounds good, it doesn't really work in theory. It can put off future players in wanting to join the club. Also for those comparing the Rooney situation to Heinze, they aren't similar. The money involved in that deal was nothing to United, plus his wages weren't sky high, combined with the fact that no-one goes from United to Liverpool directly.

I believe the player's union has said it will get involved if we either didn't play him or dumped him in the reserves.

He won't be able to play against Wigan. His shoulder is sore.
