Yup. He'll touch 220 goals this season for United.

Is this just your Rooney love talking though? I mean everything that is brewing regarding Rooney is negative, it hardly seems conducive to a good working relationship going forward.

Oh dear...Being passed around on Twitter:

BPd7WvdCIAAlhwz.jpg

By who? And what was the context

No context but the message is clear: obviously, the people who booed SAF about Tevez are still around.

So where do we stand? i'm never too sure. As I see it now, he is staying and we are happy with that?

His position is untenable with many fans now! He's played this card before, and was forgiven or rather it was forgotten for the sake of the
team.

Can't see that happening again. Sad really as the guy had it in him to go down as as one of the all time greats in terms of goals scored etc.

If he does leave, he'll end up deeply regretting it.

It might not be until he retires, but one day he'll look back and think "what a plonker I've been, I should have gone down in the history books as one of the greatest Manchester United players of all time but I blew it".

I'm not convinced that he cares a great deal about that kind of glory. He might pay lip-service to it now & again but, it seems, becoming a great appears far too much like hard work for him.

It's lucky they don't appear to be doing too well at the moment. At Chelsea you get sacked for doing quite well don't you?

And sent to the fecking gulag if you don't. Wait 'til Maureen and the Mafia Man have their inevitable falling out. That will make the goings-on at United seem very, very pale in comparison.

I've not been keeping close tabs on the Rooney situation, as my life was consumed by Thiago. Has Rooney officially stated that he wants to leave? All the reports about him being "unsettled" and "angry and confused" never seem to have any quotes from anyone. All I've heard straight form the horses mouth as that United don't want to sell him at any price.

If Rooney's stayed completely silent, then I don't think I'd hate the idea if he stayed. It's a difficult decision to read when everyone in the United camp is staying so quiet, other than declaring the usual "not for sale" spiel.

He has said nothing, just reports with no quotes.

When Frank Lampard was fretting about a new contract, he used a glove puppet which he named 'the press'. 'The press' would say things like "Poor Frank should get a new deal," and "It's cruel to deny Frank a new contract - look how they're direspecting him, after all he's done for Chelsea!"; Rooney owns a similar puppet, named 'Talksport'. So much for silence.

I actually had an argument years ago with my brother how I've never actually liked Rooney, and thought he was massively over-rated. On his day he can be exceptional, but that's not very fecking often, once in a blue moon. He's frustrating to watch, 2nd touch is always a tackle, sick of him cutting in and blazing over, his attitude.. and that was at the time. Seriously, because he's an English striker and plays for us, people think he is godlike, but look at his competition for England striker... it's been fecking dire for ages, no wonder he strolls into the team. He'd have never went down as a legend in my eyes even if he stayed till the end of his career.

I actually class Hernandez and Rafael as being higher up as being in the legend category (If they stay for a while of course). Their attitude's, their improvements, their drive, and passion, all smash Rooney's in comparison, what people think is Rooney's "passion", it's not half the time, it's just him being frustrated and a prick. I'll probably get slated for not being up Rooney's arse and "not seeing everything he has done for the club". I guess I've just never really been fond of him.

This post isn't the greatest thought out, but he just pisses me the feck off, we've gave him everything basically, but he's just a spoilt fecking wanker.

Players like Hernandez/Rafael/Valencia/Rio/Carrick are worth 10 of Rooney, they're committed to our club and not their bank balances.

This could be the end of my redcafe career

(Note: Posted when frustrated and after a few brewskies... but that's the way it goes)

Rafael and Hernandez could stay for 10 years and I still doubt they'll match the contributions of Rooney to this club. And Hernandez and Rafael are among my favorite United players.

I think the fact that Rooney hasn't said anything, tells us everything.

He is certainly doesnt appear to care much right now mate, but years down the line he'll look back with regret.

He's contributed and has been a great player for this club.

But this feels like being cheated on a second time by someone who promised they would change. Yeh you had some good times, but now it's over and you think they're a cnut.

He won't even help his new club by requesting a transfer from his old club; that's the type of 'selfless' player Chelsea are trying to sign. Always about the money.

 Pretty good analogy there actually. Maybe he was like this all along but we never realised??

It's is odd that things will end like this, we now how valuable he still is but he is not a put the club before yourself player (that is an almost extinct breed) In terms of modern football I don't think he has been too bad, but players are held to a higher standard here. Rooney has been unable to match that. It would be weird seeing him score for another premiership team after all these years.

Jesus Christ, did Wayne do the photoshopping himself?

I hate all this Rooney revisionism, it's like some people are preparing themselves to get into Rooney hate mode if he turns up at Chelsea.

He's been a really top player for 9or so years now, a real talent, been pissed about playing in various positions etc.

Yes the negatives are that he seems not to rate staying very fit as high as he could, and last season wasn't that great, but he still scored 16, barely playing as a striker.

People have horrendously short memories, and as much as I thought VP's contribution was very high last year, he's been here 1 year and people are suddenly acting like he's the long term massive player Rooney is.

I fear we'd soon realise what we'd lost if Rooney did move to Chelsea.

If Moyes really did say that Rooney is needed if VP gets injured, alluding to him basically be a reserve, I'm not surprised Rooney would be severely pissed at that.

All very true. I don't think Moyes actually meant his words to be interpreted that way - I think he was actually saying that if RVP gets injured, only Rooney is good enough to step up and fill the gap. He didn't mean that Roo would only play if RVP was injured. But Rooney isn't the brightest lad, so I guess it's possible he read it the other way. Don't buy the 'angry and confused' bollocks though, there was one Sky article with no quote or source and everyone else is just parroting that.

I've never liked him personally. I am sure I said that... I wouldn't care if he stayed or left, I wouldn't be suicidal and cry if he left.

Not that is not what is happening. Rooney was called out by Fergie about not being at his best, a player who wanted to be here would put their head down and get back to their best. Almost every player who has been here has had a run in with the manager: Giggs, Scholes, Beckham, Keane, Van Nistelrooy, Ferdinand etc. you read that list those are mainly club legends. Rooney gets no special treatment anymore and he can't accept that.

What he has done over nine years has no effect on right now. We appreciate his contribution to the club we have cheered for him and watched him become one of the most decorated of his generation. This club has been run one way, no player is bigger than the club Rooney is not an exception. If you read the whole of Moyes quote you would know he did not call Rooney a back up to Van Persie at all, the press has spun the information and it seems they have suckered you in also. Before accusing the manager of the club of anything make sure you know exactly what he has said.

Nobody here doubts he is a good player and would work well at Chelsea, what we wanted to see was some loyalty and respect from a player who has held the club by the balls before. He has not been forthcoming at all, he isn't even man enough to come out and speak for himself instead he is using the press and his 'people'. This is the club vs Rooney and in that situation their can only be one winner.
