Rooney always comes back early from injuries.

Hopefully this doesn't feck him up in the long run like John Terry.

Fergie playing an injured Rooney against Bayern Munich a few seasons ago was desperate and stupid on Fergie's part.

Rooney also came back too early from the 2006 and 2010 World Cups.

I agree that we shouldn't rush him, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't eager to see him play again.

Still don't get how Rooney is allowed to publish this book talking all about United and what SAF says yet Ferguson himself said on Twitter that players are not allowed to talk about the club!:wenger: As with Jaap Stam, be interesting to see what comes of this.

Well Fergie wrote the foreword, so I'd imagine he knew what was going to be included

Likely a case of Rooney having to get United to agree to what he has included in this book. Particularly if SAF has written a bit for it as well.

He usually goes straight back into the lineup after long layoffs. Hope it will be different this time and we see him come off the bench a few times before starting.

This is the beauty of having RvP, Welbeck, Chicharito and Kagawa as options. We're in no way dependant on an unfit Rooney getting thrown in against Liverpool.

Even a match fit Rooney at Anfield is awful. Can't remember a game at Anfield when he had any impact except in his first season. I never understood why he's so shit against them.

Well Everton always choke when they play Liverpool - maybe it's something in his upbringing?

I miss watching a Rooney playing at full pelt, like he did at the start of last season. Even though Kagawa and RVP are doing a great job at the minute, I'm looking forward for his return.

I'm really starting to miss Rooney. Yes he can drive you mad, but there's always the chance of magic. I'd like to see him and RVP together. I think they'd complement each other very well.

His passing so far has been brilliant. His touch also looks fantastic.

Thought Rooney's been absolutely brilliant in this first half. One occurrence when his first touch was a bit poor, but overall he's been very important in keeping possession, controlling the tempo and helping out the young ones by bringing a lot of calm and serenity to the side. He's everywhere, his fitness seems impressive.

Looks fitter to me now than at the start of the season. Some of his passes have been exceptional.

That 45 minutes was infinitely better than anything else Rooney's produced this season.

I think Rooney must benefit from sitting on his arse and doing nothing, a bit like in 10/11 when we gave him a month off and he came back playing his best ever football.

Maybe every time he goes off form we should send him to Hawaii for 2 weeks

Kagawa on the Left, Rooney in behind and RVP up top. Or no wingers and Kagawa and Rooney in behind RVP. Looked good tonight, was in 2nd Gear all night and was a class above everyone else really.

Played really well today and I was genuinely surprised by how sharp he looked considering he usually comes back slowly. He played quite deep today, deeper than he usually plays and I think that's where we'll need him to play, particularly with RVP. That's how we can get the midfield more involved and get more thrust through the centre. With Valencia potentially being out he might come straight back in with Kagawa perhaps moving to the left which would give an interesting look to the team.

He looked much better tonight. Looks to have found his fitness again and his passing was a lot better too. Nowhere near as sloppy as he was before his injury so hopefully a sign of things to come.

It's no coincidence that our attacking play looked good and fluid after a long time with the return of an in form Rooney. He just offers you so much more than RvP does . The two of them together could be special.

If a choice has got to be made, I'd put Kagawa on the bench and play Rooney because he's just a better player

This. Wazza is just a level above the rest when he's on form. And a factor like that can make the difference to such an influential degree I can see why Fergie wants to play Rooney in every game.

While I certainly have nothing against all the positive posts after the game (on the contrary), but it sort of makes me laugh at how just a few pages back he was being criticised, some even questioned his ability to "turn it up" anymore, while some are (somehow) still unconvinced he's world class.
You even had people saying they'd rather not even have Rooney in the starting XI (not sure this particular post was in this thread or another one), in short it was just god awful reading some of those posts and thinking "are we watching the same player?".

Now however, with a good game under his belt he's suddenly back to being "exactly what we need" and suddenly the expectations are high again.

Didn't think he was a class above at all. Anderson and Cleverley were better IMO for sure. But Rooney did well too.

I second that - for me it was clearly Anderson as MotM with Clev as a good runner up. Rooney was good, but comfortably behind those two. Great long range passing though, and his short passing was less sloppy than has become the standard lately from him.
