nic could you link me to that article.

I'm guessing that Sebastian Soup-Dragon isn't a real journalist, Jakey.

It didn't stop me checking out The Observer online though, so you're in good company. :D

Some parts of the media seem hell bent on making this week about Rooney. There's two legends getting their send off from Old Trafford tomorrow, Shrek can take the backseat this weekend.

Aye, cannot give a feck to what anyone including Rooney is up to right now. If he wants to leave, fine go ahead. Won't count an iota in front of the departure of Sir Alex.

When he walked into Sir Alex Ferguson’s office *almost three weeks ago, Wayne Rooney wanted *answers about why he no longer *appeared to be part of Manchester United’s plans, writes the Sunday People.

Sources close to the Rooney camp claim the England striker, one of United’s outstanding *performers since his arrival in 2004, was determined to find out why boss Fergie had seemingly lost faith in him.

Rooney was seeking clarity over the role Ferguson saw him playing in the future, with the striker telling his manager he didn’t want to *experience another season of frustration, being shunted around the team.

But when he left that explosive summit around 25 minutes later, Rooney was left fearing for his Old Trafford career after *getting no assurances from Ferguson about his role in the side.

Details of the meeting were subsequently leaked and Rooney now feels he is being backed into a *corner and forced out, with the Red Devils making the first move in what he sees as the end game.

Sources say Rooney feels the *discussion should never have been made public, although there is no suggestion the United boss was behind the leak.

But the incident has left Rooney feeling betrayed – and deeply *concerned about what the future might hold at United.

The 27-year-old striker was shocked to see initial claims he had handed in a transfer request *– an allegation he strenuously denies.

United later confirmed Rooney had NOT slapped in a transfer request and was not for sale.

But I can reveal Rooney DID ask if it was time for him to go, and *offered to leave if the manager felt there was no dedicated role for him at United.

As he left Ferguson’s office at the Carrington training complex, both parties agreed to speak again after United’s final match at West Brom next Sunday. Now, though, Rooney doesn’t know what the summer holds, with Ferguson’s departure a further twist in the tale.

Seems like a bit of PR from Rooney's camp. Maybe I'm just being very cynical though.

There is a constant media circus around Rooney now.
Certainly good enough to be in the squad..
Not first choice striker anymore.
Not at his best.

I dont care either way. Stay or go.. dont care.
I'm fairly certain that if he leaves, we'll get a suitable replacement. We can afford it and we will sign someone decent.

Its not like it was in 2010 when he was the star striker and 24..
shut up and play of feck off.

I just want this circus to end now. He either signs a new contract (only has 2 seasons left) or he leaves, can't be having stories about him everyday in the papers causing uncertainty

I feel sorry for him, he had every right to ask of he was still in fergies plans, the press blow everything up as usual and decide to push this story weeks after it happened at the same time fergie announces his retirement so it looks like the club is cracking up, now some so called fan on twitter makes up some bullshit story about jones who most fans really like hitting Rooney which some fans have understandably hates since his original transfer request. A lot of you seem to be blaming Rooney for the press about him recently which is hardly his fault is it, blame the media not him

The disturbing thing is how quick people are to steam with the "f~~~ offs" and abuse, without really knowing what has gone on.

If I were Rooney i'd be slightly disturbed I'd gone from THE man, having previously played second fiddle willingly when Ronaldo was here, to then being benched and dropped fairly regularly.

Moyes has a nice storm to sort from the off!

If wr8_utd and some of us care about Rooney so much, remember how much Fergie cares about him? He took him to United as a kid and he was worked with him for almost 10 years and in many interviews, you see Rooney treating Fergie like his own dad.

Neville was just saying how much Fergie cares for a youth team player and remember how much Fergie would care for a player who will sacrifice himself and play in any role he has been asked to? It's all good to think of Rooney as a subservient servant to the Master overlord Ferguson, but it never works that way, does it? There has been explosive showdowns and wanting a guarantee many times before and it'll happen many times after. We fans, nowadays put the hat of economists and we are always thinking of the best fit for the clubs, but the manager will have to strike a fine balance between his own players future and what's best for the club. Especially, Fergie who is practically the father of this team. He will have Rooney's best interests as well as the clubs in his heart.

When he's leaving, he'll sort it out and just not leave it in Moyes' hands. If he remains, our club will have a fecking great player, and if he moves on, it'll be for his own career and for the club's good future. There's no point in being critical right now, especially when we are just dealing with gossips. It wasn't as if Fergie came out with a public request.

What SAF's think means little at this point. Its what Moyes think about this issue that matters.I have mixed feelings on what is going to happen on this.

On one hand, Rooney fits in Moyes physical attitude to the game perfectly. He's hardworking, strong and he can run all day long. However the fact that he had already shown that he wanted to leave, his age + the fact that he's just 2 years away from the end of his contract may play will play against him. It all depends on whether Moyes will stick to a lone striker system or not. Lets face it, under such system, two WC strikers is a bit of an overkill.

The Rooney 'situation' is an interesting one. His next contract could be his last. He's said it himself. When he loses that yard, he might have to consider his position. When you see Michu at Swansea and Benteke at Villa you soon realize there are options - albiet they could be one season wonders (in England anyway)

We have Keane coming through and Cofie (who's gone off the radar but was immense prior to his loaning out). It's not easy but I couldn't see Moyes not wanting to work with Rooney personally.

I don't expect to hear any news on Rooney until the end of the season now. I'm sure he isn't best pleased that the news that he asked Fergie to leave leaked, unless it was his intention but I doubt that.

 Hope he can get back on track after his injury and continue his progress!

Ah you are at it again arent you?

First of all, what the hell is the problem with his age? He is 27 not 34.

Secondly, Moyes will employ the lone striker system because thats how he lined up at Everton. He used the 4-4-1-1 formation. He knows by now the 4-4-2 is not going to be effective against all teams.

Finally, Rooney aint a striker anymore. Also why would you want to break up the partnership that will terrify opponents. Did you not see how well they linked up this season? Just out of the top of my head I can think of three spectacular goals - the one touch passing against Reading, Villa overhead goal and the Champions League goal against Cluj I think. We should be thinking of strengthening our squad and not the other way around.

Can we kill him yet the fecking murdering raping armed and dangerous illiterate shithead?

I think Ferguson plays him and he plays well, then stays after Moyes speaks to him. We'll need his quality bigtime next season. It would be like losing 3 players

Seems like a bit of PR from Rooney's camp. Maybe I'm just being very cynical though.

Given that Rooney's people briefed out just the same kind of stories to the press 3 years ago its hard not to be cynical.

I don't believe anything the Rooney entourage come out with. Frankly it wouldn't surprise me if it was Rooney's camp who leaked the stories about Sir Alex going on Tuesday evening. Let's not forget it was revealed to the players in confidence, it wasn't meant to come out.

Maybe I'm being too down on Rooney but he has said too many contradictory things to believe. Also, if Rooney wasn't looking for an easy way out why didn't he just go to the Boss and say I'd like to play up front. Why did Rooney add the threat of leaving if not given what he wants? It feels to me that, again, like 3 years ago when he claimed Sir Alex was lying about his injury etc. Rooney's trying to wriggle out of United without losing face.

I'm guessing he's going to play.

If there are problems there and we are selling him, you'd imagine that we don't want to advertise it to the world, weaken our selling position and let it overshadow a momentous day.

If there are no problems and we aren't selling him, he should play. He's been a big player for Fergie.

But if there really are problems, do we want him waddling about, not bothered on such a momentous day? I'd rather we start someone like Welbeck or Hernandez, who would both be gutted at seeing a striker on his way out starting ahead of them.

I hope he plays. I want to get nostalgic whilst he lines up with Scholes, Giggs, Rio, Carrick, Vidic and Evra...with at least one of those players lining up for the very last time (for definite). It'll be like 2007 again

I'm pretty sure he's 10th in the list of appearances for United under Fergie. It'd suck if he missed this most nostalgic of days.

The other point no one has mentioned is he has alredy proved what a money motivated individual he is. I have no doubt he would run his contract down to add a few million more to his fortune Nd for us that is simply not an option.

I'd be much happier to have him see out his contract and leave in two years than sell him now. He's worth more to us than the transfer fee we'd get for him, and certainly worth a lot more than the fees the papers are talking about.

Plus I'm a bit bemused by this notion that player has somehow let a club down if they leave at the end of a contract. All a player ever promised a club was the years he signed on for.

Hope this Rooney thing is put to bed soon as I genuinely think he is our best player. Bring in Bale along side him and I think we are more than a match for anybody in Europe.

Yeah he's in stark contrast to all of the other selfless footballers who play for us or free.

Cristiano is in a similar contract situation at Madrid but we want him back. The difference being Rooney has reportedly asked for contract talks (if you believe the media) where as Ronaldo has shunned approaches for talks thus far.

If he didn't have previous, then he wouldn't be getting that.

FFS, why are people so concerned about Rooney's breaking of our goal-scoring record, his appearances under SAF & the prospect of him playing today for 'nostalgic' reasons? Today is about Sir Alex, not someone so ill-advised that he acts up each time there's a contract to be discussed. All this fuss is shameless behaviour by Wayne & his people, and the timing couldn't be less appropriate.

Any truth in the rumors that he has been left out the squad due to a bust up in training with Phil Jones?

No the difference being arse hair is a snidey sneaky little cnut, who rather than saying I want more money or I'm off publicly called the boss a liar and then pretended it was all about the strength of the playing Squad. Something he made no mention of at all DURING the transfer window but waited until just after it closed, hardly the actions of someone hoping to encourage strengthening the squad. People say he was badly advised, he knows be was and is sorry, yet he still employs that massive cock goblin strettford, hardly screams I didn't mean it to me.

I think he'll be on the bench again. Ferguson will start Welbeck, Hernandez and Van Persie. I'm not sure he'll bring him on either. Nobody wants the boo's or whatever kind of crap today. It's Fergusons day.

Nobody has mentioned that? Are you fecking kidding me? It's been mentioned in nearly every one of your 300+ posts in this thread ffs!

To be fair steve, nothing has been actually confirmed by the club in actual quotes. The only quotes that have come up is "wayne is not for sale" , rest of them is mainly heavy speculation from every paper. None of us actually know what is going on there. Didn't expect you to join the flaming-bandwagon.

But you are right. Today is about Sir Alex and Scholesy and should stay that way.
