It didn't stop me checking out The Observer online though, so you're in good company.
Some parts of the media seem hell bent on making this week about Rooney. There's two legends getting their send off from Old Trafford tomorrow, Shrek can take the backseat this weekend.
When he walked into Sir Alex Ferguson’s office *almost three weeks ago, Wayne Rooney wanted *answers about why he no longer *appeared to be part of Manchester United’s plans, writes the Sunday People.
Sources close to the Rooney camp claim the England striker, one of United’s outstanding *performers since his arrival in 2004, was determined to find out why boss Fergie had seemingly lost faith in him.
Rooney was seeking clarity over the role Ferguson saw him playing in the future, with the striker telling his manager he didn’t want to *experience another season of frustration, being shunted around the team.
But when he left that explosive summit around 25 minutes later, Rooney was left fearing for his Old Trafford career after *getting no assurances from Ferguson about his role in the side.
Details of the meeting were subsequently leaked and Rooney now feels he is being backed into a *corner and forced out, with the Red Devils making the first move in what he sees as the end game.
Sources say Rooney feels the *discussion should never have been made public, although there is no suggestion the United boss was behind the leak.
But the incident has left Rooney feeling betrayed – and deeply *concerned about what the future might hold at United.
The 27-year-old striker was shocked to see initial claims he had handed in a transfer request *– an allegation he strenuously denies.
United later confirmed Rooney had NOT slapped in a transfer request and was not for sale.
But I can reveal Rooney DID ask if it was time for him to go, and *offered to leave if the manager felt there was no dedicated role for him at United.
As he left Ferguson’s office at the Carrington training complex, both parties agreed to speak again after United’s final match at West Brom next Sunday. Now, though, Rooney doesn’t know what the summer holds, with Ferguson’s departure a further twist in the tale.

The Rooney 'situation' is an interesting one. His next contract could be his last. He's said it himself. When he loses that yard, he might have to consider his position. When you see Michu at Swansea and Benteke at Villa you soon realize there are options - albiet they could be one season wonders (in England anyway)
We have Keane coming through and Cofie (who's gone off the radar but was immense prior to his loaning out). It's not easy but I couldn't see Moyes not wanting to work with Rooney personally.
What SAF's think means little at this point. Its what Moyes think about this issue that matters.I have mixed feelings on what is going to happen on this.
On one hand, Rooney fits in Moyes physical attitude to the game perfectly. He's hardworking, strong and he can run all day long. However the fact that he had already shown that he wanted to leave, his age + the fact that he's just 2 years away from the end of his contract may play will play against him. It all depends on whether Moyes will stick to a lone striker system or not. Lets face it, under such system, two WC strikers is a bit of an overkill.
Seems like a bit of PR from Rooney's camp. Maybe I'm just being very cynical though.
I'm guessing he's going to play.
If there are problems there and we are selling him, you'd imagine that we don't want to advertise it to the world, weaken our selling position and let it overshadow a momentous day.
If there are no problems and we aren't selling him, he should play. He's been a big player for Fergie.
I hope he plays. I want to get nostalgic whilst he lines up with Scholes, Giggs, Rio, Carrick, Vidic and Evra...with at least one of those players lining up for the very last time (for definite). It'll be like 2007 again
The other point no one has mentioned is he has alredy proved what a money motivated individual he is. I have no doubt he would run his contract down to add a few million more to his fortune Nd for us that is simply not an option.
The disturbing thing is how quick people are to steam with the "f~~~ offs" and abuse, without really knowing what has gone on.
Yeah he's in stark contrast to all of the other selfless footballers who play for us or free.
Cristiano is in a similar contract situation at Madrid but we want him back. The difference being Rooney has reportedly asked for contract talks (if you believe the media) where as Ronaldo has shunned approaches for talks thus far.

FFS, why are people so concerned about Rooney's breaking of our goal-scoring record, his appearances under SAF & the prospect of him playing today for 'nostalgic' reasons? Today is about Sir Alex, not someone so ill-advised that he acts up each time there's a contract to be discussed. All this fuss is shameless behaviour by Wayne & his people, and the timing couldn't be less appropriate.
