Is there any harm in him coming out and saying don't believe the rummors about me leaving United? If he has the time to tweet about some PR bollocks then the least he can do is dismiss the transfer rumours. Just face it, Rooney's bit of a cnut.

10,000 posts here, mate, and I doubt you've said anything truer than that.

Rooney's a tosser.

Or just someone who wants to leave? The shit tweet clearly means he's Asked for a move. I dont know why people are surprised he didnt quash the rumors about him leaving.

I guess we can't blame him for playing his cards close to his chest. However, it'd be very simple to deny that he asked SAF for a transfer; he didn't take the opportunity though, and maybe that's significant.

Maybe he's been told by the club to shut up about it? He doesn't come out and deny rumors every time that he's linked away from United.

Jaysus, man, will you listen to yourself?

The club have effectively said he asked for a transfer away from the club two weeks ago. That's fairly damning and Rooney does nothing to quell the rumours, yet he has time to put out a ham-fisted statement about some Nike bolloxology.

Perhaps Rooney himself doesn't know if he's going to stay or go. He may be unhappy with his role as a utility player, playing anywhere possible, and now Fergie is stepping down, he may well be waiting to have a chat with Moyes to see what his future holds.

But if he wants to leave, then that's no exactly a crime, is it? He has every right to look for a new challenge if he so wishes.

I don't know why people are expecting him to come an squash the rumours in the first place. The club have done the job in the past - like when they started after the Madrid game and they've done it again this time with their statement.

I get it, people dislike Rooney but, look at the situation clearly and this is no different to past rumours with any of our players - it's got nothing to do with Rooney being a cnut or tosser or an angel or best human being ever. First there are very few rumours that are responded to and if they are responded to then the club handles that mostly - which they have in this case.

Sooner people stop waiting for official yay or nay, the sooner they'll stop being so angry.

 That's very funny to be fair.

Very weird, it's like you can seemingly defend ANYTHING  Do you think it makes sense on any level that he puts out a statement for something so trivial, but doesn't address whether or not he's living?
What is there to defend? He put a paragraph up on his website saying Nike asked him to change his twitter profile... It may not make sense or satisfy the fans already baying for his blood, but how exactly does that make him a cnut? Not his fault everyone wanted something more juicy.

Yeah, the club have said that. According to the newspapers. And well, we all know the newspapers are 100% reliable. They'd never stretch the truth. Although even if it is all just rumours, we can be safe to assume it's Rooney making a devious play. He's a cnut like that you see. Us United fans on the other hand are lovely, loyal people.

We have a new manager coming in who'll sit and talk to Rooney. This isn't going to be sorted out before Moyes takes over officially so I'd get used to the constant media stories about him leaving/staying/signing contracts.

You really think Moyes will not be talking to United until he officially takes over?

Rooney could and should have denied the story if he never asked for a transfer. If he thinks this sort of behaviour will win him a better contract like the last time he has misjudged the situation.

I missed that club statement - didn't realise some chicken shit anonymous source equates to a Manchester United statement.

If he is going, even he's not going to be a complete twat about it by announcing it on the eve of SAF's last ever home game.

Best he stays silent until the season's up.

I want him to stay and go in equal measures. Curious to see a United without him and how he'd fare in another club.

The Twitter bio is so far the only thing from Rooney's side that has fuelled speculation that he asked to leave and now he's commented on it. That's all we know. He might be a bit of a fool, but the amount of criticism he gets got tiresome a long time ago.

Let me see if I have this scenario of yours right. United do not want Rooney to leave, and Rooney also wants to stay at the club, but, despite massive rumours about him handing in a transfer request, United have told him he can't deny it?

The irony of the those who are begging us to sell the 4th top goalscorer in the club's history after 1 average season where he's still been our 2nd most productive player laying into Rooney over a suppose lack of loyalty :wenger:

Do players need to come out and announce stuff every time there's a story about them in the media? Like it's been said, the club have apparently said he's not for sale so that's all there is.

No, they don't, but that's hardly the same thing as the club telling a player he can't deny a transfer rumour. It would make no sense for United to say he can't deny it.

Exactly! Rooney didn't make everyone hype it up on twatter. He's hardly don't anything cnutish but hey let's all get on his back again.

Can he not wait to see the managers plans for him before he makes any kind of statement on his future?

How many times do we have any of our players come out and deny rumours? Has Nani come out and denied or said anything about his rumours, or Anderson.

Even with Rooney's rumours after Real Madrid he didn't come out and say anything. There have been rumours circulating about him for a while now and right on the eve of Fergie's announcement some anonymous source has come out and said that he asked for a transfer - which the club immediately responded to. So why is it unbelievable from a club perspective that is all they want said about the matter and have asked Rooney not to say anything further?

That's harsh. I don't think there's many who are begging us to sell him because of his performances. Maybe a handful but that's it. I agree to an extent though. People expect unequivocal loyalty from Rooney and every other one of our players but the moment that situation's flipped around the gloves are off. If he did ask to leave then people are entitled to call him every name under the sun. I just think it's weird that people can't wait four or five days for a bit of clarity either way before doing that.

Maybe Rooney did ask for a transfer and Sir Alex thought "feck this, I can't do through this again" and this "excess stress" that Capello talks about directly relates to Rooney. Then we can completely disown him. I don't see why people are in such a rush to do that though. There's an alarming amount of people that seem excited at the thought of getting rid of this poisonous personality in the squad. It's bloodthirsty behaviour not too dissimilar to the tabloids that people are so quick to criticise.

I wonder did he do the whole announcement bollocks just to wind up the media and fans. Could be bored.

The resemblance is striking.

Im sure the last time we heard a rumor about Rooney leaving he came on twitter and announced he was going nowhere.

They wouldn't deny them because they are more than likely true.

IIRC Vidic and Evra were rumoured to have wanted to leave the club a few years ago, which was immediately dismissed as media bullshit but they later admitted they were close to leaving and Fergie persuaded them to stay.

If he blabbed about transfer rumours on twitter every time they came up, it's all he'd be doing when not playing.

Remember when he was injured at the start of the season against Fulham, and it came out that Fergie and him hated each others guts and had he not been injured, he have been benched anyway, and probably sold to PSG in January.

Completely coincidentally, they patched things up and became bezzie mates again once he started training and all was well upon his return.

But then, two weeks later, he was trying to organise a move to City..... etc, etc...

Now you are just making stuff up. When did either case happen - that Vida or Evra admitted they almost left?

It's sad but, people just not even willing to see that the official club statement which came out against the story that started this whole shit storm is all the club/Rooney are all willing to say on the matter for now.

So ingrained that this is all Rooney's fault that with all the times in the past with rumours galore players nor club have responded directly to them but, this time the lack of it is due to Rooney being a cnut/tosser.

The Nike thing is a completely separate thing which he has control over and as such can at least clarify that.

Does a club have to come out with a statement every time there's a story about about one of their players? United certainly did on this occasion. Why did United come out with a statement he's not for sale, rather than "rumours Rooney asking for a transfer are not true"?

Rooney asked for a transfer because he has become tired of working under Ferguson, it's unlikely he's disillusioned with general life at the club (contract, trophies, players.) That doesn't make him a cnut, not everybody has to think Ferguson is a God. He may not want to sign another contract and have to work with him every day for another 5 years.

Ferguson was weighing up his options anyway and decided he couldn't be bothered anymore. No better time to bow out than now. He retires.

Moyes becomes the standout candidate and rumours circulate he will take over in the summer, possibly bringing Rooney's pal Phil Neville along with him. This intrigues our shit haired striker.

Moyes is appointed, but Ferguson will remain for the final 2 games, which will be uncomfortable for Rooney but he can probably live with it before making a decision in the summer.

Moyes will surely try to convince Rooney to stay because he's such a quality player. Rooney stays and scores 23 league goals next year.

I have a source.

I don't remember Vidic admitting he nearly left, but Evra said he wanted a completely fresh start after the World Cup fiasco, and was looking for a move abroad, but he was persuaded to stay.

Because I can't understand why, if in the scenario where all parties are actually happy, the club would tell Rooney he can't respond to massive rumours he has handed in a transfer quest. I also don't really expect him to address it either way, but I definitely can't see the club saying he must not respond to it, which was w8's point. It's more often the case players and the club do not respond to rumours, it's only the odd occasion they do. Which is why it's a bit damning that Wayne has come out responding to the twitter thing, but chosen to ignore the whole point of it, which was about the transfer request. I expected him to say nothing at all.

Whatever the bigger picture, I reckon we can all agree to believe Rooney actually wrote that statement. Because it was badly written and almost akin to a Caf post.

Whatever happens, it wouldn't hurt to remember the near 10years service, very often sacrificing himself for the team.

You don't get many star players doing that.

Last year something had completely changed in how he was seen by the manager. He got subbed off loads, left out for the biggest game, and was completely usurped by Van Persie. Not to mention Fergie making it clear Kagawa would be playing a lot more next season.

not surprised Rooney was feeling a bit unloved.

However, it's all changed now. Moyes has his first big bit of work to do!
