Rooney up until March 2010, looked like he was in the worlds top 3-5. He clearly hasn't come anywhere close to recapturing that since signing in October 2010.

I dont know but didnt he score like 34 goals last season or did you just choose to ignore it? The same 34 goal tally he had in the first season after we sold Ronaldo.

Did Rooney's Twitter ever say Manchester United player in the bio?

Different culture.

Ronaldo could have done our life hell, forcing us to let him go on peanuts. Once SAF's told him to shut up, he did and ended up signing a new contract which boosted our chances in selling him for top dollar.

Ronaldo was always a professional with us in and out of the pitch. He improved year after year, his temper and off the pitch antics were never an issue + he never questioned the club's ambition. He was just a young player who wanted to play with the team he supported as a child. Can you blame him on that?

I agree with you to an extent, except he didn't improve in 2009. He was largely poor until January-February. His temperment was clearly an issue, refusing to celebrate goals, throwing a strop at being subbed in the Manchester derby by flinging his top to the ground. He had a reason, but let's not rewrite history here.

You're joking, right? From his entire summer of "only God knows the future" to agreeing with Blatters comments, everything he did that summer was a disgrace. He flirted with Madrid pretty much all summer and then only signed a deal at the end of it. His behavior was far worse than what Rooney has done.

I felt this at the time. Now i dont feel so much he was a disgrace, but it was hard to be on the receiving end of it, he was duplicitous. Also, I still find it a bit annoying the way history has been rewritten that Madrid was his dream club, his boyhood dream was to play for Madrid etc. After "winkgate" at the World Cup, when there was first a possibility of him leaving, he said he wanted to play in Spain, he was equally happy with Barca or Madrid. This whole "boyhood dream" shit only came about later when it was clear Madrid were the team that wanted him, and there was no more talk about Barca.

Still, fair enough. It doesnt have to be a childhood dream to validate wanting a move. I just dont like the way it is used as a justification for everything, like he would only have left us because it was his boyhood dream, but other than that, he loves United yadda yadda yadda. He wanted to play in Spain, Madrid came in for him, they are a bigger club than us, he went. Simple as, really.

He made his request to leave 2 weeks ago, plus Johnson said he's gone. He's gone.

Oh yes Johnson has said he is gone so he definitely off. The mighty Johnson has spoken. And we dont know for sure if he did turn in a request. How about getting behind your own fecking player until something concrete comes out? And if he wants out he wants out, no big deal. He will leave and we will make a tidy profit in the process.

Rooney has the same number of combined PL goals and assists -22 - as Juan Mata this season. Mata has started 7 more matches than Rooney this season, was nominated for player of the year and is widely thought of (correctly) as being one of the best players in the league.

I realise that statistics don't tell anywhere near to the full story in terms of effectiveness, but the above do give some perspective about Rooney's contribution this season, and what we will be losing if he does decide to leave.

Honestly, can people stop looking into that Twitter bio nonsense? It's a Nike thing and Cleverley has done the same. Why doesn't anyone go to the Cleverley thread and say he's off? It's not a big deal at all and we need to stop making it one.

He could've and still can help himself by denying the rumours. Instead he and his team leaked the story to the press, in a stressful enough day for United fans. He's lost any bit of respect I had for him.

Because he has and always will be a cnut. He's proved in both his private and professional life that hes an incredibly selfish man who throws his toys out the pram as soon as things dont go his way.

Moyes has received all kind of stick on here but he has only ever conducted himself with the highest levels of class and dignity.

Rooney is a thundercnut and the day he leaves this club will be a good day, the guy almost publically humiliated Ferguson. feck off Wayne.

They say the club is bigger than any player and I'm more than happy for us to take this risk this time.

No red cards, no running around with prostitutes while his wife is pregnant..no moaning because we're not ambitious enough

He is clearly aware of it. In fact I remember him denying reports he was leaving in 2011 on twitter. Colleen was bombarded with messages on twitter, and she told eveyone to ask him. He's hardly unaware.

So he has an immediate obligation to run to the internet? It's not a footballers job to address the public unsolicited. The club has also forbidden players of talking about Manchester United on Twitter according to Fergie. It slips in now and again, but most avoid the subject. Rooney's Twitter barely ever mentions United at all. Neither does Cleverley's or Nani's etc...

It's the clubs job to address stuff like this, and they have done. Fergie has said numerous times he's not going anywhere and the club have said he's not for sale.

So as it stands, he's not really done anything wrong. Saying it's the worst behaviour of any United player ever is just lunacy.

Red card in the Manchester derby ;) but largely I agree with you.

Has anyone except Hernandez and RVP said anything in the press these past few days? No one has. Why dont we wait till he comes out and says if its true or not. Look if he comes out tomorrow and says he wants to leave, then fine by me. I wont really care about the issue anymore. I would thank him for everything he has done and be happy we are recuperating a lot of money from his sale. If every time a player or his team have to come out and say something when they are linked with some other team, then their only job will be to hold interviews to deny the rumors.

Its really not hard to get on his twitter account and just say 'not sure where rumours are coming from. not true', hardly groundbreaking.

de Gea and Anderson took to Instagram to thank Ferguson, Rio, Buttner & Carrick said their thanks and welcomed Moyes.

Couldn't agree more. It really annoyed me how the Ronaldo and United fans just clung on to the whole "dream club" bullshit and continue to use it to justify his transfer.

BBC, 9th July, 2006 :

"I should get out of Manchester as the circumstances are not right," he said.

"Nobody stood up for me and my desire is to play in Spain. Will it be Real or Barcelona? It will be one of them."

Ronaldo claimed: "For some time I haven't had any support from my chief executive (David Gill) or my coach (Sir Alex Ferguson). They should have come out in my defence but no-one did.

Madrid being a chidhood dream. Yeah right,

And all this in a season where Rooney hasn't gotten to play his best position, has been hampered by several injuries and not been at his best. If one can get their hatred for Rooney out of the way, we'd be losing a hugely integral part of our team and we'll miss it even more when he's gone.

Because he has and always will be a cnut. He's proved in both his private and professional life that hes an incredibly selfish man who throws his toys out the pram as soon as things dont go his way.

He has never struck me as selfish on the pitch.

He's had his bad spells but he's 100% a team player.

Apart from when he's doing stupid things to get sent off, admittedly.

So, if we take all these stories at face value.

2 years ago he wanted to leave because he didn tthink the club were targeting players good enough to keep us at the top.

Now he wants to leave because he isnt the main man with all these other good players around.

Now, I would never be one to call Wayne Rooney one of the worlds great thinkers or anything, but even he isnt that stupid , if he wants out there is no way his team will have put that forward as the reason. I'm smelling some bullshit here.

Having said that, if he wants out, I'll be sad to see him go, hes been great for us over the years, not necessarily this one although hes had his moments, but overall he has been well worth the transfer fee , but if he wants to go perhaps this is the perfect time for him to do so.

You do know that it's entirely possible it was leaked by whoever leaked the Fergie retirement story? But nah, let's just blame Rooney, it's easier that way.

Did you see him in the Bernabeau? He did little to no work on the Right, and had it not been for de Gea we would've let in more goals. This "he gives 100%" stopped being true in 2010.

If someone has been leaking information I would be looking at United.

Then why didn't it leak two weeks prior to Ferguson's annoucement? That's an awfully big bombshell to be sitting on don't you think ?

Not performing the whole year and unconfirmed transfer rumors are different issues in my opinion. People slating someone for something he may not have done is why Im backing Rooney. The reason why I did not back Valencia is because he has terrible all season. :D

That was long long ago. He just picked up 1 yellow card all of last season! His days of going around the pitch and being a red card threat are clearly over.

Did you see him in the Bernabeau?

That was one of his bad spells! This whole season has been one of his bad spells, which is presumably why he wants to leave and why few fans care if he does.

When was the last time you saw him play on the right wing?

Yes his contract fiasco was a bad move on his part. Thats one. When has he always been a cnut? And selfish on the pitch? Are you serious? This guy has played in every position Ferguson has asked him to. For who? For the benefit of the team.

People can be selfish in a many ways. If you're a lone striker you shouldn't be dropping deep and tackle for substantial periods of the game because that's counterproductive to the team.

Ronaldo changed the game for us. Rooney didn't. No wonder why he isnt our no 1 striker anymore.
