Wayne Rooney | 2012-14 Performances

When was the last time you saw him play on the right wing?

It's nothing to do with how he played, it was his effort. He left Rafael exposed multiple times. De Gea's saves from Coentrao and Di Maria were due to Rooney switching off. And you could argue Di Maria's cross for Ronaldo's goal wasn't closed off properly by Rafael and him either.

Honestly, there's no point discussing Rooney on this forum anymore. People had their opinions which clouded their judgement regarding him earlier and now it's become even worse. These "verbal request" to leave rumors might or might not be true but everyone's already well and truly believed and want him gone. I for one, hope he stays here, signs a new contract and smashes in some 30 odd goals to silence all the United fans who suddenly doubt the player he is.

Yes his contract fiasco was a bad move on his part. Thats one. When has he always been a cnut? And selfish on the pitch? Are you serious? This guy has played in every position Ferguson has asked him to. For who? For the benefit of the team.

Aside from these two transfer requests

- Cheating on his wife while she was pregnant with multiple prostitutes
- Cheating on her with a Granny
- Kissing the United badge at Everton
- Throwing a strop in Besiktas after being subbed

The amount of assumptions being made are absurd. We don't know if he has indeed requested a transfer or not and if he has we have no idea why he has requested a transfer. You have lynk blaming for leaking the story (which we are not even sure is true) without a shred of evidence and passing it off as fact. Then you have Gareth saying this:

In 2010 when I saw the sky sports report on Rooney demanding a transfer a felt physically sick to my stomach.

This time I just feel anger and resentment towards him. More of a "how dare he treat our club this way again" feeling than a "shit, we'll be fecked without him" feeling like last time.

:lol::lol:

How dare he treat our club like what? Privately requesting a transfer for unknown reasons? How dare Rooney not want to play for United anymore!!!!

Or alternatively people are so in love with the arsehaired petulant gobshite they refuse to admit that he is ever in the wrong over anything......ever.

Privately? Oh ho ho! You're a funny guy. If you think that the story about him wanting to leave only coincidentally came out the day after Ferguson announced his retirement, you are quite the dim one. Agents leak stories all the time to gain an advantage for their players, and Stretford is one of the biggest examples for doing this at the worst times.

Saw this. Wasn't even wearing United clobber, and he's removed the huge "I'm a United player" decal from the side of his car door. Definitely off.
People can be selfish in a many ways. If you're a lone striker you shouldn't be dropping deep and tackle for substantial periods of the game because that's counterproductive to the team.

Ronaldo changed the game for us. Rooney didn't. No wonder why he isnt our no 1 striker anymore.

When Rooney was lone striker for us, he still got us 30+ goals and had a wonderful season until the injury in Munich which ruined our season. I'm not sure how he did anything that was counterproductive to the team when he that role.

No effort? I think he tried his best, ran around 9 or 10km in just the 65 odd minutes that he played and assisted one goal and set up another chance for RvP which he should have scored. Sure he didn't have his best game but to say he didn't put in any effort isn't true. And he was played hopelessly out of position.

This is the same Rooney who earlier this season itself has been running down lost causes even in the final minutes of games, making vital tackles outside his own box in the 93rd minute of games like at Fulham and really helping out defensively as well as he can and now there's this accusation that he doesn't try? I don't get it

Also everyone says he has been having a sub par season which I agree with. By his high standards, I guess you could say he hasnt been at his best. But still he has scored 16 times and assisted around 15-17 times as well. A sub par season and he still has produced those numbers. All this by not playing as a striker but as an attacking mid.

It would be nice to think he'd stay, I feel that is omission from the Real Madrid match at OT cast the die for his departure, unfortunately.

Colleen will be looking for the best shopping cities as I type

Surely as a scouser she would be happier with Primark and aldi?

I would like the lad to stay, as I feel he has a lot more to offer United! Like I said yesterday, I think this has been blown completely out of proportion.

Pretty much the above, also I hardly think its worthy of praise that he's played out of position. The guy is on 200k a week he should do whatever the feck the boss tells him to.

He's always been petulant, talking himself into trouble with refs. Look at his various strops for england. He's had plenty of United strops too and people go on about 'maturity' with him. He's a 28 year old man with kids, ofcourse he should be bloody mature.

His loss if he leaves. Has a chance to be Uniteds top scorer, and a part of me feels if he leaves now he won't be able to replicate what he has achieved at United elsewhere.

If we are honest at United he has had below par performances, but will another club let this keep happening because they know he has it in him to be world class on his day? I am not so sure.

Why are we discussing what he does off the pitch now? Giggs slept with his sister in law and we don't talk about it. Let's judge him for what he does on the pitch for us and not off it.

And as for throwing a strop at being subbed, everybody's favorite Portugese over in Madrid did the same thing a couple of times when he was subbed himself including vs City.

1st one - do you really want to go there given what else has transpired?
2nd one - he slept with a granny?
3rd one - I guess thats bad given he was raised by that club.
4th one - again really? Do you remember Ronaldo doing the same thing when he was subbed? Its ok if he does it then? I dont recall anyone mentioning that 'cnutish' act of his.

I mentioned that in the previous page. In fact this whole transfer request fiasco is an off the pitch incident.

1. Yes
2. Yes
3. Of Course
4. Both are in the wrong, I used that to beat Ronaldo fans too. Don't deflect.

Exactly, people keep saying "but rooney contributed so many goals/assists", well whats to say a different player would not have done the same? If we had say Mata instead of Rooney maybe he would have had double?.

We scored loads of goals this year and you would expect 1 of your main attacking players to have a handful.

The assists are slightly rosier than they look anyway, majority of them are from corners and free kicks, which isnt really the type of assist i look for in terms of measuring effectiveness.

You can keep on believing what you like (delude yourself) if it makes you feel intelligent. Fact of the matter is your posts and hatred on Rooney is based on pure conjecture.

Giggs cheating with his own brothers wife is a lot worse than anything Rooney has done with his personal life and Scholes refusing to play a game is not much better.

It's getting to the stage where I'd be surprised if he doesn't leave now.

There's the supposed reauest for a move.
A non denial from United, just said he isnt for sale.
Non denial from Rooney.
There's various journalists saying he's off.
There's David Johnson saying for a while that he's leaving.
TheReligion reckons he knows someone that knows Gerrard, who has said he's off a while ago.
Rooneys poor form this season coupled with a lessening need for him in the team.
Even Rooneys body language and attitude doesn't look right on the pitch.

On their own I'd say it's probably nothing, but the evidence is stacking up. Surely it's not all a coincidence.

He threw a strop at being subbed off once or maybe some more times a long time ago. I don't get the big deal about it really. Okay he shouldn't be doing it but players do get annoyed every once in a while at getting subbed. Maybe he was just annoyed at his own performance that day? Whatever it was, it's not like he's been doing it week in week out. He did it once this season!

Look no offense to anyone but can we just leave players' private life out of our conversations? What they do off the pitch is not our concern. They have done bad things off it and lets leave it at that. The discussion on Rooney is about his contract issue and his performances this season or from the time he joined us.

We heavily relied on set pieces this season (United are the team with the highest percentage of goals scored from set pieces in the league iirc) so those assists are just as valuable as any other.

And many of our important attacking players did not produce good stats this season. Think of Welbeck, Valencia... saying that someone else might have got as many or more goals and assists as Rooney is a bit stupid, you could say that Barcelona should sell Messi because Heskey might score 120 goals a season.

As I said before, if Rooney's desperate to go let him go, the circus is getting tiresome anyway. But no need to go all revisionist on his arse. It wasn't his best season but we'd lose a proven performer who always chips in with goals and assists, no matter where we play him.

I've been following football long enough to know that everything isn't coincidental.

This story is either
A) Media bollocks
B) Come from a leak inside the club
C) Leaked by Rooneys camp

A is looking increasingly unlikely, United and Rooney's camp aren't denying it simirarly to 2010, whereas in 2011 he denied it hours after it arose in a tabloid paper.

B is possible, but unlikely, if someone found out this it would've leaked two weeks ago as it's a massive story on it's own. The rumours of Ferguson quitting only really emerged last Sunday at the very earliest.

C is the most likely, Rooney and his team of Stretford and Co. leaked this information the day after Ferguson's announcement to try and force Uniteds hand during a time of crisis and transition.

Exactly. At the time even Fergie said he would expect that type of reaction, as it shows passion.

To me, it was a way of expressing his anger at playing rubish...Not being subbed! He knows himself, if he is on his game, no one subs him!

Also has previously submitted transfer request.
Dropped for our biggest game of the season.
Has just 2 years left on his contract.
No longer our best player / main man.

It will be a mistake selling Rooney IMO. I hope I'm wrong and if he does go, then it doesn't come back to bite us on the ass.

But why? These days he provides nothing we cannt get from other members of the squad without even factoring in any potential new signings

fecking hell. He hasn't had the best of seasons but this is exaggeration at it's very worst

Agreed. I'd rather we run down the clock until October 2015 than allow that to happen

Losing 30m on Rooney and letting him go on a free would be far better than watching him fire Chelsea/City to a title.

It really isn't, given constant first team football RVP and Hernandez can more than cover his goals, Kagawa can quite conceivably cover his assists and Im sure we can find a midfielder capable of giving the ball away as much as he does.

Don't bother  You're going to see some pretty amazing and unwarranted criticism of Rooney now that he's apparently asked for a transfer.
