I think I heard rumours about it around the time they annouced the Guardiola deal.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/mar/11/football-transfer-rumours-wayne-rooney

Don't know if this is the first solid rumour, but a lot of tabloids were reporting it at this time by the look of things. But it was one of those big reporting moments which was kept quiet for months, making way for PSG to take up the rumour mill, then pop up again. Very odd, and very bad timing of the announcement of him desiring to leave I say.

If he has put in another transfer request, then goodbye, there no point of return for me. He does not seem as motivated as he once was and if is convinced to stay i dont see that changing. Hes at a club which has just won the league 5 times in the last 7 years and is on course to become clubs highest goal scorer. If that's not motivation, then what is?.

If he has suddenly got a taste of exotic lands, then fair enough, though i think he just crying about not being the main guy any more and fishing for more money to soothe his pain.

Though if he were to leave the 25 -30m seem every low. We should be looking for at least 40m.

If he wants to go then let him go. He's not an irreplaceable part of this team as evident by the fact that he got dropped from our biggest game of the season.

I'd say it's between Bayern and PSG if he is to go.

However, I don't hold any major grudges against the guy, he's a quality player and I naturally want him to stay if something can be sorted out. I still don't know a lot of what's going on, so I'm not going to start jumping on the 'feck him, he's shit anyway' brigade.

He should rubbish it on Twitter if it's untrue, he did that before - didn't he? His wife has responded to the obligatory selection of idiots complaining to her about it "My husband has a twitter account ....... @WayneRooney . So tweet him not me!!"

david johnson reckons hes off to germany.

This makes me think there is definitely something in this.

Now considering under the category of 'forwards' we have van Persie, Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck and Kagawa (oh yes, he's in there in terms of his primary position), a potential arrival involving Lewandowski WOULD affect Rooney is some form given the fact that we often deploy 2 forwards in a game, whether one plays off the other is irrelevant in this instance.

If we signed Lewandowski we'd be signing a player who plays in Van Persie's position, which would be absolutely mental, unless we were going to take the best centre-forward in the world and push him into the number 10 spot, which would be only marginally less mental.

We really don't play with two forwards. We almost exclusively play various versions of 4-2-3-1, and Rooney and Kagawa and these days even Welbeck invariably play somewhere in the 3.

I think Kagawa and Welbeck could comfortably play in behind RVP or whoever, plus there's a raft of young talent that can player there and are probably available.

Like others have said, the major worry here is that he's not denying anything. I'm not one to jump on the bandwagon like a mindless zombie, but a denial after the occurrence is often fairly standard if they're not leaving. In fact players will often still deny even if they are, which makes it seem suspicious to me.

Rooney has had plenty of opportunities to make a public announcement about if he wants to stay. The silence = confirming the rumours?

Aye, it seems so.

I think his wife would have denied it if it was bollocks, as she has done in the past. The fact she just said to tweet Wayne instead speaks volumes.

FWIW that David Johnson guy seems to have been saying for a while that Rooney is off. There's far too many signs for this to not be true. I saw a tweet from Raphael Honigstein also saying that we've been open to offers for a while now and this is just games between United and Rooney's camp. I can't find the tweet now though, he may have deleted it for whatever reason.

I'm sick defending Rooney. He's earning 220k a week to play for United. The guy doesn't look as fit as he should. And yet it appears he has put in a second transfer request.

Rooney has the potential to be in the top three in the world, if he'd only knuckle down and do his job. The whole thing is just a shame at this point. I think he's a goner, which is really really poor.

No need to keep a player who's unhappy and wont give his all. Plus, he has become a replaceble player

How many times has a player ever come out to deny a transfer rumour?

The smoking and drinking and coming back overweight have always been a bit of a nag, but easy to ignore when he was younger and the key man.

He's not the key man anymore, and when he's off form he can barely control the football, can't go past anyone, and noone can honestly tell me he'll last too far into his 30s.

I know from experience in my sport, that staying fit is the easy part! If i was in his shoes, as a highly talented player, i'd do my darndest to stay fit for what is a 15 year career!

What's not to like about playing for Manchester United? Does he feel he's being frozen out of playing in his best position or does he think the grass is greener somewhere else?

He moaned we didn't have enough good players, we brought good players in, and now probably feels marginalised

Be careful what you wish for kids.

At this point I'd gladly sell him for 40 million, if we can also get a proper replacement, which may not be too vital anyway.

If it means Kagawa in his natural position I'm all for it.

Well, if he wants to leave than he can bugger off. As far as I am concerned Kagawa is far better suited playing in the hole for us.

Why does he need to deny it? Because some 'insiders' off Twitter et al are going into overdrive?

I'm sure the board and manager know what his intentions are. When they make everything clear, we can then burn the Rooney effigies

Wether he stays or goes we will be ok. It seems much is down to the fact he seems to have lost his 'undropable' status.

The next few weeks/months promise to be very interesting indeed

He also said Fergie won't be leaving, just keep away from twatter for a couple of weeks, the club or Rooney will clear this up after the WBA game.

Regardless of whether the rumours are true or not; 40 M for Rooney is not a bad move at the moment. He is not, IMO, a player that will play well far into his 30's and he is already 28 this year.

Vidic seemed to do it alot when he was constantly getting linked with moves abroad. He seemed to be getting a bit angry about it after a good few. Rightly so. I'd be miffed if the papers were making up shite about me too.

I wonder how RVP will feel if Rooney goes. When he first joined, he kept mentioning his name, and he seemed genuinely excited to form a partnership with him. The man he admired in Fergie is leaving, and the player he seemed most excited about playing alongside could be out too. The little boy inside him will be pissed.

Fergie, being the ultimate grand strategist, may have seen this coming and prepared for it by procuring Kagawa when he did.

Was it the Daily Mail and this same reporter who broke the story about the City transfer controversy a couple of years ago?

Someone just said to me that apparently Piers Morgan has been ripping Rooney all season on twitter, about being second striker and not being as good as RVP.
And you know, I genuinely think that'll have had an effect on Rooney, such is his simple mindedness.

How could you possibly not remember the £80,000,000.00 we got for Ronaldo?

Surely the exception rather than the rule?

RVN is the worst for me. You look at some players that went for similar to him...madness.

Maybe. I think he's probably the biggest "confidence player" I have ever seen in football.

Yes, Rooney in my opinion has always been far too consumed with how he is viewed by others as a footballer.

It's one of the reasons he continues to disappoint for England on the big stage I think.

He's off.

Thankyou to him for the years he has given us and the service provided.

He can feck off now though.

Rooney's still our biggest name, and probably still considered as our best player, Ronaldo was the same. We won't let him go on the cheap.

Id get rid if we can guarentee that a player of a similar calibre will be coming in. Im talking lewandowski, falcao etc Maybe even a bale or ronaldo.

30-35m abroad or 45m in england

SAF laid down the challenge to Rooney and he did not respond. After he was dropped against Madrid he didn't come back hungry enough for me.
