What pisses me off is when someone questions the club's ambition to win things, and then go and get pissed before a training session or can't even be arsed to keep themselves in proper shape.

If Rooney had the dedication to go with this ambition he apparently craves, he'd be a much, much better player than he currently is. He's still very good, but every single fecking year there's issues with fitness, indiscipline, lifestyle which affect his ability to perform on the pitch. He's a bit of a moron.

I got bored with it when he kicked up a fuss the first time. He'd be a difficult player to replace in terms of ability, but there's plenty out there and already at the club who are more dedicated to themselves and the team as a professional.

If he goes I'd not really be that gutted. As it is I do kind of worry what younger players take from having him as a point of influence. Drink, smoke, be greedy, don't learn from mistakes, don't worry about keeping yourself fit when you're not playing...great example.
He's got dropped once 18 months ago because he went for a meal (Jonny Evans also out with him), if I remember right it was 2 nights before a match... And you talk like he's getting pissed every week, you're blatantly exaggerating, if not completely lying.

Fitness issues again... Are you on one of our coaching staff or physios or something because I've not seen anyone from the club inform us of Rooney's poor conditioning, so I can only assume you're one of the hysterical bellends who sees Rooney return to pre season and goes "OMG HE'S SO FAT".

He's scored in our opening game of the season for 2 out of the last 4 years and continued that run as well. So much for him always returning horribly out of shape and taking ages to get up to speed.

Interesting that this Rooney story came out today especially as there are rumours that he's being blamed within Old Trafford for leaking the retirement story.

Either way it deflects attention off whoever it was who leaked the whole hip replacement story, given how quiet the club are regarding medical issues.

For clarity the media are only saying the united spokesman said "Wayne Rooney is not for sale" and I doubt it was an isolated statement it was probably simply in response to the question "Is Wayne Rooney for sale?" If so its not a very exciting answer is it?

I also haven't seen anyone report that the spokesman said that Rooney told SAF he wanted to leave or handed in a transfer request. That's all preceded by woolly conjecture like "It is understood that Wayne Rooney...." Which is how papers always present bullshit.

The club are in a precarious situation with our manager of 26 years retiring. The media are taking advantage and fans are in here lashing out at fat, selfish, unfit, easily replaced, not good enough Rooney who might not have done any of what's reported yet the fans are turning on him.

It's possible that the relationship between Fergie and Rooney has run its course. It happens in football. In a funny way, maybe a new manager - the one we're getting, unfortunately, as Fergie's retiring - will actually invigorate him, use him differently, etc. Rooney wanted to leave when he didn't know Fergie was off. Maybe if he knew the gaffer was leaving he wouldn't even ask or want to leave.

Rooney leaked the Fergie story as well now? Well he really knows how to go out with a bang.

If we're going to accept, for the sake of sensible discussion, the fact that the press are a bunch of opportunists then we also have to accept Paul Stretford's track record regarding Rooney. Wayne has been badly-advised & has acted without thinking before now, so why should we just blame the media without knowing the truth behind these leaks? It should be obvious that there's a phoney war taking place, related to upcoming contract negotiations...

this is getting silly.
what next, Carrick wants Rooney gone because he's annoying teammates with his singing when listening on headphones?

Maybe he questioned Sir Alex's own ambitions, which led to SAF making the decision to retire?

Time for Rooney to feck off from the club, he's shown too much disrespect.

He actually announced that himself. You'd think he'd want to do something about it wouldn't you? As you say with your stat, he's started those seasons well, so obviously he has done something about it. But by Jesus that Everton performance was disgraceful. Absence of effort and interest, and I'm not buying that it's because it's Everton. He got dropped the week after. How often has that happened? Kagawa came in and was excellent.

Trying to interpret a player's desire to move because of a change to his Twitter profile might be the most depressing new age football bullshit I've heard in a while.

I never said he did it every week. You've decided to say I said something I didn't and then accuse me of being a liar for saying it?

This happens a lot on here for some reason.

Rooney and indiscipline is hardly a one off, that was the point. He's missed games because he's elbowed people, kicked people, clapped at a referee's face, said "feck off" repeatedly, thrown a football at a referee, because he turned up for training hungover, because he wanted to leave the club, because he's not got himself fit, because he was sulking too much about getting sent off for England...You could pretty much write a fecking book on how not to behave at Manchester United, based on what he's done.

There's probably on average two or three seperate incidents a year where he has to miss games because of his own feckwittery either on or off the pitch. That's pretty poor, and it's bordering on unacceptable for one of the highest paid professional athletes in the world.

He isn't paid thousands a week to not get the best out of himself.

Except for when Rooney himself admitted that he wasn't in nearly good enough shape and needed to get himself fitter, you mean?

I believe Ferguson also said the same thing, in a press conference.

Maybe they are both hysterical bellends too?

Why do you think it's ok to call people bellends on the internet just because you don't agree with their opinion on something which you haven't even looked into properly?

Do we even know anything for certain yet, or are people still just going off the papers when deciding to crucify him?

If I've missed some kind of confirmation that he's asked to move, then fair enough, but otherwise some people are getting rather hysterical.

I think you'd have to suffer from apocalyptic levels of delusion to believe Wayne Rooney is anywhere near the peak of his fitness. I mean it's so obvious everytime he puts in one of his (1 in 4) non league performances.

It's good enough for me. BTW, I've noticed that Cleverley always looks like he's scowling - this means he thinks that SAF is an old fogey and is plotting to assassinate him.

Not as depressing as Wayne Rooney forcing Stiliyan Petrov to retire somehow:

So Wayne Rooney could be persuaded to stay at United but only if he receives sufficient love and assurances of his place in the team going forward under the new manager.

Meanwhile Stiliyan Petrov retires due to his battle with Leukaemia...

I remember pictures of Rooney on holiday in Dubai, smoking and eating junk food just after the contract wrangle. The press probably hyped it up to more than it was, but it didn't look particularly healthy for a professional athlete.

.

This threads a complete fecking embarrassment.

Even if he has had the cheek to want to move to a different club after 9 years with Utd there no sensible justification for the reaction of some people.

Likewise some of the reaction to prospect of Moyes replacing Fergie.

Some of the most cringe inducing stuff I've ever read from Utd fans.

Rooney can leave. He brings too much of a headache. Fergie leaving is an absolute heartbreak. Rooney leaving means nothing in comparison.

Very good points, if you're going to be precious about 'ambition' and question the clubs future the least you can do is be on your most exemplary behaviour, especially when it relates to discipline.
Rewind to the West Ham game, had he not compulsively sworn into the camera, perhaps we wouldn't have lost our best player for our "future" Fa Cup Semi Final with city.

Spoilt fatty demands transfer from a club who pay him 200k-a week.

Meanwhile, pork is found in Halal lamb burgers.

The same can be said about RvP at Arsenal last season meanwhile his mate Muamba was retiring due to a cardiac arrest.

People need to stop making pathetic posts like this ffs.

We're only three years in, admittedly, but I'm still tipping this for non-sequitur of the decade.

The point was more about the banality of the BBC article on Rooney leading their Sports section rather than the Petrov story, but never mind. The media focus on things like this over actual life-changing issues annoys me, and I expect better from the BBC, but I accept that didn't come through in that last post

Yes, he talked about one summer 6 years ago where he returned and he was a few pounds more than when he left, to talk as if there's a serial fitness and dedication problem is speculation at best.

He just played poorly against Everton, there was no lack of effort. Everytime Rooney plays poorly lately it's blamed on his fitness or lack of trying, and this is becoming a theme for a few of our players. That may be one game it could be argued mind, as he'd only played like 2 pre season games prior to the season, which is hardly his fault.

I never said he did it every week. You've decided to say I said something I didn't and then accuse me of being a liar for saying it?

We could do the same for so many of our players. Scholes shouts feck off repeatedly, he threw a punch at someone on the field and got sent off, puts in horrendous challenge after horrendous challenge that see him pick up red cards year after year, he refused to play in a reserve/league cup game Fergie picked him for, he stormed off and went home instead.

Rio, swears a lot, misses drugs tests, meets with Chelsea's chairman during contract negotiations, elbows and kicks people off the ball, clapped in referees face after Madrid game, creates media storms through his behaviour on twitter...

You may also want to note the use of the word "like".

If he had such fitness and indiscipline issues all these years why has Fergie kept him around I wonder? This is a player who can't be arsed to keep himself in proper shape (your words), how has the greatest manager of all time allowed him to let himself go and let him do what he wants all these years and let him remain at the club? Maybe, just maybe, there's a bit of exaggeration and fabrication going on from those looking in from the outside and don't actually see what he does in training and where his fitness levels stand when they're tested internally..

Rewind to the West Ham game, had he not compulsively sworn into the camera, perhaps we wouldn't have lost our best player for our "future" Fa Cup Semi Final with city.
Jesus  how was he meant to know swearing on a football pitch (after just completing a hatrick to put us 3-2 up in the title run in) was going to get him banned? It was a joke of a decision from the FA, which was echoed on here at the time.

Hope he isn't in the match day squads for the next couple of games.

I really wish people would read at least a few pages back before posting. Do you think we've been discussing Rooney's favourite deodorant for the past 20 pages? The twitter thing has been covered several times.

Tom Cleverley also has NikeUK Athlete in his Twitter bio

People have been saying something was not quite right with his demeanor on the pitch for a while, so a transfer request is not surprising. The truth is that he has always thought he was indispensable but this season he has found out he is not. He is just one of a squad and he doesn't like it.

He can go to Chelsea or City if he wants and he will find himself in exactly the same situation, competing with other excellent players for a place every week.

The trouble with Rooney is that he is thick and has bad advisors. He just hasn't thought it through. The only way he can be No.1 on the team sheet every week is to go to a smaller Club and that of course would mean a huge cut in wages.

Whatever happens, he will never be a United legend now.

His worst performance of the season was Swansea away for me, I don't think I've seen him as bad as that.

Nice, thanks for the enlightenment on the top bit.

How the hell can you say that? If he does not leave and ends up that the tiny chance was the case and that this all rumours/bs and he stays at the club for the remainder of his career, he is very most likely going to end up our all time top scorer, but he will never be a legend?
