Gutterpress. He won't be going anywhere.

There's been Rooney rumours for ages, he also submitted a transfer request himself a couple of years ago and looked woefully unmotivated this season. 2 years left on his contact so this would be the year to sell him if we do. Won't be at all surprised if he goes.

I'm not sure if it's more disgusting or disheartening how readily many of our fans turn on our players when the media dictates it.

This. Especially Rooney. People are absolutely desperate to believe that he's leaving or in trouble, all the time. It's unfathomable and frankly, from the Caf, disappointing.

There's been Rooney rumours for ages

There were rumours about Danny Welbeck wanting to leave because of wages for months. Danny fecking Welbeck!

The press chat utter, inane, relentless shite.

It's a no brainer to get rid of him in my opinion: Questionable attitude, his best years comfortably behind him, and is sucking a huge weekly wage out of the club.

Losing both Rooney and Fergie in one summer would be a massive hammer blow. Papers making up these Rooney stories is nothing new though.

It's one thing to sell him abroad but to sell him to Chelsea is suicidal.

Jamie Jackson from the Guardia. Wayne Rooney asked SAF to leave #mufc a fortnight ago. Was told no. Spokesperson told the Guardian: "Wayne Rooney is not for sale".

We've always known his heart wasn't in it - he's Everton through and through...which is why he's off to PSG, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, FC Loans4U or Abu Dhabi Athletic.

Nope. Not having it. Once bitten...

He's pulled this shit before. It came out in the papers. I made a bet he wouldn't leave in January with a mate. Then, to put the ball back in Rooney's court, Fergie (genius) came out and said he'd handed a transfer request in.

Do you really believe the press are making this one up? When so many latch onto it, you can bet your bottom dollar there's a degree of truth involved.

Not only that, but he's been a dickhead for a while. I've not liked him since his transfer request, and now that he plans on putting a second one in? feck right off.

Safe to say I'm not Rooney's biggest fan, but let's not jump to conclusions until something with at least 1% of credibility surfaces.

We need as much experience as possible next season, selling one of our most experienced (and best) players would be utterly insane.

Once bitten hey? Trying fourteen thousand, nine hundred and seventy eight times bitten by a media that yes, constantly, endlessly make up the most obvious nonsense to sell newspapers.

So if Rooney actually has asked to leave again are people still going to keep defending him no matter what? Not that it really matters, I just think it would be funny.

That article about Rooney leaving is quite hilarious

"Asked for a transfer, was denied" , "might stay now since there's new manager", "still not made formal transfer request". And then they also say Ronaldo is set to return

I'd like him to stay, but I wouldn't be overly dismayed if he left. If we got a good price for him, and used the money to bring in quality players, then I'm perfectly fine with this.

Especially as people are so quick to dismiss other transfer speculation with no quotes.

Agreed Liam. Everyone laughs at the media but they do, amazingly, get some stories right - including the first 'Rooney off' stories. It's fairly easy to sieve out the bollocks from the stuff that may have an element of truth in them.

It would be pretty funny if Wayne left the club and signed for Everton.

Exactly how I feel. I just hope we dont sell to Chelsea. If he stays, good and he better buck up, but if not and is adequately replaced, then thats good too.

Sell Rooney sign Isco. Play Kagawa in his preferred role behind RvP and play Isco off the front on the left. I wonder if Moyes has even heard of Isco.

Don't know why people are saying this story could be true because he's done it before. The last time wasn't media driven stuff, it was pretty much Fergie who came out and told the world that Rooney wanted to leave. This time it's a rubbish story from a rubbish tabloid which says in the same article that we're signing Ronaldo.

The fact is that he is a brilliant player when on form, and one that as a club we should be looking to keep 95% of the time. He's by far and large the best English player of this generation, and although he has periods where he looks shocking he's an invaluable player to have at our disposal.

He's been here nearly 10 years, and in a time when United will need to call on experience and calmness to lead them through what will no doubt be a time littered with fans and pundits raising questions about whether we've replaced Fergie with the right man, it's players like Rooney who will need to be called upon. Players like Giggs and Ferdinand will be able to help out next season, but it's the next three or four years, when the players around Rooney's age will become the most experienced in the squad that there really needs to be a unity between both the squad and the club as a whole.

That said, if he has handed in a transfer request (for the second time) then we should flog him. No ifs, no buts - flog him. The last thing we need post-Fergie is prima dona players thinking that they are now bigger than the club because Fergie has left.

Not been his biggest fan since he wanted to leave in 2010 and got that huge contract. Would have no problem if he left, don't feel he's 100% focused.

Oh and the wonderful article suggested we're signing Ronaldo? Well after his goal tonight, "Ronaldo crashed home a close range free-kick and celebrated exuberantly, clearly saying the following words in Spanish: ”Yo aquí, yo aquí” – effectively “I am staying here.”"

So much for believing the trash they come out with.

Except for the fact that two other newspapers are reporting it.

I still don't think he'll go to Chelsea.

They're bound to get it right sometime, since they've been writing 'Rooney wants out' stories for the past five or so summers now.

Nah, sell him instead. Possibly after the flogging.
