Better late-on. Before that, if he'd had pockets in his shorts his hands would've been in them.

Shinji must have been pissed off seeing him playing today, while he was in the bench.

He's just not that good anymore. Has his moments, the odd fantastic pass or two. But his overrall contribution to the team isnt very good.

Time to ship him off, and get Kagawa in the team.

I actually thought he contributed more than RVP today but that may be overlooked because RVP got the goal.

If we were to get a winner it seemed that Rooney would be involved in it.

I've had enough of people, including United fans, questioning the boy's talent and class. Well, just to set the record straight, Wayne Rooney is a world class footballer, and the best England have had since Gazza.

That is all. Thank you.

Your knee just jerks every which way doesn't it?

Was he not one of our best players last season?

He has been a bit off a lot this season, I agree. But are you not willing to give a player as good as him another chance?

Some of you are seriously pathetic.

I genuinely thought he was excellent for the last half an hour, and I'm usually very critical of him.

He was alright, not that involved but when he got on the ball he had some really nice moments, but then some bad moments. As much as I love him, I think he'll be going this summer. Sir Alex has started subbing him off every single game lately and dropping him pretty often, and it's just been different than before.
Wasn't poor today though, better than most of our other offensive players.

He was much better in the second half, even though he still misplaced couple of simple passes, but my God he was poor in first half.

Same here, thought we took him off at the wrong time. Had a terrible first half though.

This. RvP did absolutely nothing apart from the penalty and yet the Rooney lambasting is in full flow. Rooney had a poor game but then so did pretty much everyone in our attack except for Nani. Atleast Rooney got involved in a lot of stuff and played that really good cushioned pass to Nani and that glorious ball out to Giggs.

First half anonymous. A decent focal point in the second half, played through most of the incisive balls whilst RVP was incredibly subdued (though he must've had more to drink than most this week).

He had a quality second half, I get the fact he isn't flavour of the month but feck me.. he was a cut above anyone on the pitch in that second half and whilst its a shame Wayne doesn't play to that level of intensity regularly, he demonstrated that in terms of talent... he's still by far and away the best player at this club.

Still don't know if he has a future though, that 2nd half performance is a rarity these days.

This place is a joke at times, and this has reverted into a shit sandwich of a thread of late.

We'd miss him if he wasn't here. One of the most selfless, self sacrificing players in world football. Plays anywhere he's asked and puts a shift in, week in, week out. As well as having bundles of quality, as a goalscorer and provider.

And yet, here we have people saying he isn't very good any more and we should just get rid. Laughable.

 posts from 2008?

The point isn't how his opinion has changed on Rooney or how long it took to do so, it's how he's always been hilariously knee-jerk. When Rooney takes a bit of (justified) criticism for going on a goal drought Sam comes out with the classic "leave my hero alone" reaction, now he wants him sold...a little knee-jerk, I'd say.

No harm, but who gives a feck what Kagawa thinks? Rooney has done more than enough for this club to be selected in the starting line-up, and also to get a bit of respect from our fans.

Enough of this kind of shit

Or evidence of rooney's decline

Agreed, he is not as influential as he used to be but most of the good/intelligent play in the 2nd half involved him.

Although I would have liked to see Kagawa given 30 mins and RvP off.

I'm knee jerk because in 2008 I rated a player far more then I rate him in 2013.

Brilliant.

Wanting to ship off Rooney is madness for me, even if he isn't at his best this season, there is no way we should sell him. He's still a fantastic player

You're knee jerk because you want him sold for one below par season where he's still contributed heavily. He was better than RVP today for sure

Enough of this kind of shit

So he isn't? As a footballer? How many other strikers do you know who would play in midfield or on the wing and just get on with it? He's sacrificed his own game for others at this club plenty of times in his time here.

If you're getting at his private life, or his contract dispute then I'm afraid that's got feck all to do with it. I'm talking about what he does on the pitch. You know, the part that actually matters.

I actually thought Nani, RVP and Rooney were showing some good movement for the first 30mins or so of the second half and it was adding to our attack. Would have loved to have seen Kagawa on for Valencia and try and get more out of that interplay and movement.

"At least he played better than RVP today."

Is this really how people respond now? RVP was fairly rubbish today; Rooney only less so because of very conspicuous lack of activity.

He plays where he gets told to play, as do the rest of the team. Maybe you should be lighting candles for Rafael when he's playing in midfield as well.

He was decent today (after 30 minutes when the team woke up), anybody wanting him out must be crazy as feck.

He plays like he doesn't give a damn far too often - this is why he gets a lot of criticism, not because every critic is a kneejerk muppet or because of past contract troubles.
