Time for Wayne to move on. I find him thoroughly unlikable and his performances are utter liquid shit these days. Another player who came as a flair player and will leave as 'effective', sick of it. I just want us to play good football!

Rooney tried to get us playing football tonight, he looked to get it wide at all times. Problem was when he gave it wide Rafael was shite going forward, Welbeck isn't someone who will cross the ball and Young is infuriating. Rooney relies on service from the wide men, if they are dog shit, he's going to be less effective in front of goal. Can only do so much with hoofs 10 feet above his head out of defence by Rio.

He did have a shot - one of his trademark "let's try and chip the keeper who's on his line with a shot that everyone predicted 20 seconds ago".

Not judging him too harshly tonight though, he didn't look poor and has just come back from injury.

Thought we looked OK, didn't think he was poor anyway. Played some nice passes and Welbeck should have really played him through in the first half, that was infuriating.

Quinton, that's a bit harsh considering he's coming back from injury. I'm willing to give any lad a pass for that. If he keeps this up whilst having a run of games, obviously I won't be so forgiving.

I just hope in some ways, some of our fans see how pointless it can be to debate about a player who can blow hot and cold. the discussion is never ending yet circular.

I thought he was poor in his allround play, passing was off, link up play and decision making left alot to be desired. The shot which he took was never on and he should have delivered a wider cross for the player at the back post. All in all he should have been substitued earlier after his rash tackle which got him the yellow card.

That was clearly a mishit cross.

Looked one of the few who actually gave a shit about how toothless we looked.

If he'd got that cross right he had van Persie free at the back post too. Real shame.

To be fair considering he was coming back from an injury I expected a lot worse. Not great but not a disaster either

Does anyone still think Rooney is a "world class" player?

On his day he is truly World Class, no question there. I wouldn't put him in the top 10 players in the World on a consistency basis though sadly, many other players just have their "days" more often than Rooney does.

You really think so? For me, he doesn't come anywhere near world class. It wouldn't surprise me if he left in the summer, although the ONLY possibility would be PSG.

He's looked really jaded.

The effort was there, but it just didnt come together for him yesterday.

For the first time in a long while he actually looked angry that we were losing and playing badly - this is something i feel he has missed for a while.

He managed to win us back possession a few times in the second half, but his final product really lacked, but then again the whole team did.

Not really sure what is going on right now but we need to get out of this slump and fast.

Agree with all these points.

What more did you want from his final product? Obviously the cross he mishit wasn't good but other than that the team kept playing the ball to the wings instead of down the middle. Despite that he still managed to create a chance for RVP out of nothing in the first half. And again, not his fault that Welbeck didn't play him through.

Like you said, he looked angry and he wanted to be involved more but unfortunately we kept looking to wide positions and crosses all the time or a hollywood ball from Giggs. We didn't really mix it up.

if you're fit enough to be on the pitch, playing a high profile match like yesterday's... this should never be an excuse

it's funny how this is a valid "excuse" that's used to justify Rooney's subpar performances sometimes instead of just admitting the truth... which is he is just not that great that many make him out to be here and is often overrated on the Caf

I thought he was good yesterday, in the first half at least. Some of his link-up play was very sharp and he was our most creative player.

He did have some poor moments - trying to play his way out of trouble at the end of the first half and that attempted chip in the 2nd (or was it a cross? Looked like a shot to me). He didn't play as well in the second half but neither did the team as a whole.

wow, just wow.
this is so wrong I don't even want to go into, just wow.

A friend of mine suggested that we should cash in while we can. He said that £25m would be a good price.

I said he was talking out of his arse and we shouldn't even entertain anything less than £40m. If Torres is £50m and Carrol is £35m then we should expect at least £40m.

My friend and I are both of the opinion that Rooney isn't going to get any better over the next few years, probably worse in fact.

With the money we would save on wages, plus his transfer fee we could get a quality replacement.

If we were to sell him, how much do you think it would take to take the sting out of him leaving? I'd say no less than £40m.

I don't think he would go abroad either. But if rather that than going to a rival.

My friend suggested that even at £25m only a few clubs could afford his wages. I think it better to keep him as we can afford it, but I was wondering what price everyone else would feel would be a good deal for us, if any.

Yes, because whatever amount we get, we will probably spend? Some idiots on here. Selling Rooney would be stupid.

I think Rooney will play for us until he retires and I hope he does too.

I wouldn't be too fussed if we sold him when he's into his 30s, maybe back to Everton or something but I really don't understand anyone wanting to sell him at this point. He's still very important to our team and into his peak years.

I wouldn't be too fussed if we sold him in the next season or two as long as we got a decent price for him.

I'm not flying a "sell Rooney" flag either, was just curious as to how much people would think would be a reasonable fee, after speaking with my friend about it.

I''d agree, £40m and upwards perhaps. Kagawa would ideally soften the blow but anyone we sign in Rooney's place is a risk - we're not exactly playing like a team at the moment that players would fit seamlessly into. Kagawa seemed to me to be an absolute dream signing that would fit right in immediately, but even he's taking his time adjusting. That's one hell of a talented player right there and there's no guarantee that we'd be able to go out and find someone much better than that at any price.

I wouldn't sell Rooney. A stupider (if that's an actual word) idea is hard to come fathom.

There are two, and perhaps only two, players on the squad who -- truth be told -- whose absence make us look like a midtable squad:

Wayne Rooney and Nemanja Vidic

If we sell either, we're pretty much fukked as far as collecting trophies goes.

But if some people want to stop collecting trophies, then be my guest and sell Rooney. And while we're at it, we may as well "cash in" on Vidic as well.

Perhaps because we don't have quality cover for them, and if they play shit we're probably looking like a midtable squad anyway

Now take Rooney out and plug Ronaldo in...:rolleyes:

The thing that disappoints me about Rooney is that he never fix his off form habits, with him being in the team for so long he should really fix all this mood mambo jumbo and learn to keep his personal mood in-check like a true professional. Sure you can have off form, it's normal, but Rooney have been having too many of those off form runs, and to be honest, he's not worth to be the highest paid player in the squad with that kind of productivity.

We're always cutting him some slack, conjuring up excuses left right center (e.g. work rate, heartbeat, linking up, passion, sacrificed out of position, coming from injury, having purple patches one too many, yadda yadaa) while Truth be told, he's just not world class, and getting further away from that direction.

My guess is that the reason most of us are so heartwarming on RvP is that because after Ronaldo left, finally we have someone to rely on in the striking department than Wayne Rooney.

I won't be felt hard done if he's sold, time for him to move on and find that extra drive if he can't seems to find one in United, if the arrival of RvP can't seem to motivate him at the age of 27, I don't think he'll ever gonna be achieving anything greater than what he has, and i can only see decline in the near future.

The biggest disappointment from Rooney for me is how he lets himself go during pre-seasons, he admitted it that he always gets fatter and badly out of shape. That's not something a pro player should do IMHO.
