they just can't let any of this shit go since it continues to sell papers, be it bullshit or not (in this case, pure bullshit).

He should not get a pass for that display. What happened to Wayne? There is no fire anymore. Is it our fault for calming him down too much that the passion is gone? Rooney might need a new team to reinvent himself.

First 30 minutes fantastic, the rest was diabolical, made even worse when he went left wing.

Not the response Fergie would have wanted from him. Tbh if we could sell him abroad I wouldn't be that gutted there are lesser but more consistent players which could do a better job for us over the course of a season.

He was poor today. I don't think all the talk this week did him any favours. Was decent when he moved to the left.

Thought Welbeck should've came on for Wayne and Anderson for Cleverley, at least Kagawa kept the ball when he got it. Once again he was shit while still contributing a goal.

You'd think he'd show something after being left out of our most important game of the season.

Piss poor but his fluke goal will mask it. He cannot shield the football when players are near him. His close control really is awful at times and he can't get free in tight spaces. Loses the ball more than he keeps it.

So inconsistent with his overall game, and he doesn't seem too bothered about it either. The goal was lucky too.

Since his last serious injury, he always looks & plays like he's worried about getting injured again.

He is never going to influence a match when playing on the left wing. Should be playing behind RVP where Welbeck was.

He was actually responsible for the second goal with a clumsy pass.

Yes. Like the rest of the team he caught the poor passing virus in the second half and couldn't shake it.

Why was he shunted out to the wing. Both him and welbeck were completely out of position.

Technically poor today. In terms of his general play, he is only very good when he has loads of space to operate in. Great at spreading it long from one side to the other, but in closer quaters, he isn't technically pn the level of Persie or Kagawa (or Welbeck).

From my point of view in the stand... It looked like he really didn't give two shits today... which is something I never thought I'd say about Wayne Rooney. Dire performance.

He was really poor today, should have been taken off instead of Hernandez. I do believe he needs games to get back into form, but it's a much harder decision when you have both Welbeck and Hernandez, one who looks more up for it than any other striker, and the other who has the best goals per games ratio of our strikers.

He was shit today. God knows why he stuck him out on the left at the end too.

Has anyone noticed his touch and passing is poor too frequently, or is it just down to confidence?

I don't think anyone got their passes right. Was just a collection of garbage passing all over.

He was shunted out wide because Kagawa was incapable of doing any defending. Kagawa should've come of and Young brought on within 10 minutes of the second half starting. Rooney was shit though and didn't make Alex Ferguson's decision not to play him on Tuesday look like the wrong one.

It was worse than I have seen. Don't think he made a right pass the entire game. Cleverley and him had a bit of competition going on to be the worst.

May be he was too eager to impress? I don't know. Whatever it is, he needs to knock it off.

I've been saying it for years. It's not good enough for the supposed 'heartbeat' of the team. When he is off-form he's much better off playing as a proper striker as he is still a great predator but when he comes deep its horrible to watch pass after pass misplaced or him miscontrol the ball for the 100th time in the game.

He was good first half, ran past players, good movement and passed the ball ok but 2nd he was very poor but so were much of the team. Shunting him out wide is not the way to go imo its just a waste. I don't understand why its happening all the time. We need to address the winger situation and let the forwards play upfront. There were worse players (Valencia, Cleaverly, Evans all gave the ball away in some awful positions) out there than Rooney today he's just scapegoated as usual.

Got to say today the subs were wrong Anderson should have come on and we should have gone with a three once they started dominating. I only wish we had Scholes to come on and help us keep the ball.

I don't what winger situation we need to address. Ashley Young was on the bench. There are 4 really good wingers at club (Nani, Valencia, Young, Giggs). I think a lot better than any other EPL club.

But what happens is United stops going down the flanks and they try to go through the middle and they turn the ball over. Just get down the line a start crossing some balls into the box.

Fortunately, Ba and Torres were crap to day,as well.

Why can he pick a 50 yard plus pass yet he can't orchestrate one to someones feet from a yard or two away?

fecking bizarre but he has been doing this for ages now.

Aye, get tight to him and he'll miscontrol the ball. He is very clumsy and his control is not tight enough.

Far too comfortable at United, and it shows too often.

I'll probably get laughed at, but was Sir Alex scared to take him off after all the Madrid furor? It was plainly obvious to most people that he should have came off at some point but it just never happened and I think the team suffered for it.

Yeah it's a strange one, but I think it might be down to timing and space allowed. Regardless of form, he's still quite positive in his passing and he'll often attempt the harder pass even if it's just to a player 10 yards away. When he isn't playing well he seems to lose that bit of composure in tight situations and can't make the same tight passes he normally can, but if given more room or time to maneuver he can still pick out someone on the opposite side of the pitch.

I thought he was pretty good today, showed some parts of his game we haven't seen enough off over the years in terms of carrying the ball and turning away from players.

Agree completely - you used to be able to rely on Rooney giving 90 mins of solid effort, chasing everything, albeit sometimes over-enthusiasm would turn into stupidity.

Anyway, I thought this dropping in midweek would bring back that mentality and he started the game well enough but was poor for most of the game, following the trend of the season. Gets away with months of mediocrity like no other 'top player' I can think of - even his best seasons contain several average performances. He's always capable of changing games through talent but is so frustrating at times.
