I see some people can't even read the thread title.
Spastics.

World Class player alright. England best against Switzerland, that touch to Gerrard that led to the second goal is pure class.

yes, and i've seen that he is a poor finisher who keeps missing alot of easy chances. He's a poorer finisher than Andy Cole - and the latter used to get grief!

Rooney is the worst forward in the last 10-15 years at MU and cost the most!!!! 10m more than RvN - that gives an indication of how over-rated he is!

This is easily the most spastic comment I've ever read on this forum and I've seen my fair share of shite on here. Okay, let's just throw Rooney into the dog shit and let's play Dong for the rest of the season up front. Better still, let's sell Rooney and bring back David Bellion

You are fecking clueless.

The forwards at United the last 15 years:

McClair
Hughes
Cantona
Dublin
Cole
Solskjær
Sheringham
Yorke
van Nistelrooy
Forlan
Saha
Bellion
Smith
Rossi
Larsson
Tevez

And Rooney is worse than all of them?

You are fecking crackers, you are!

Mithun, I've asked you before; if we were offered £15m for Rooney, should we sell?

On current form Rooney is nowhere near world class. He has 6 league goals and 5 yellow cards. The probability of him getting booked is about the same as him scoring in a game.

The likes of Cahill, Eduardo and Rosicky having played lesser games have better goal ratios and we probably create more chances for Rooney. Most of you can continue deluding yourself but his finishing is too poor for a world class striker. He needs to improve that before he can be considered in the world class bracket.

What about the chances he creates for others?

Form is temporary.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that Rooney's current form is top notch.

But, the beauty with Rooney is that even when he is not playing as well as he can, he contributes to the team and is still an important player.

Agreed but on current form he is far from world class and there are so many weaknesses is his game where he needs to improve before being called world class - poor in the air, no left foot, finishing is patchy.

Kalou has 5 league goals and 8 assists having played lesser games than Rooney. Its his second season in the league, he isnt a regular starter and is just 22. Is he world class too ?

No, he is not. He hasn't got the talent, the potential and the influence on a team which Rooney has.

Maradona was poor in the air and had no right peg....

It's quite possible that if Mithun were to disappear, the sum total of football knowledge in the world might actually rise.

Finally someone with the balls to speak the truth for what it is.

Rooney and tevez together are a beauty to watch and will pick apart most average teams, but can they handle the big guns as a combination?,we need players like them in the team but in all honestly my belife is that we'd be better off with a natural striker along with only one of them.If you want rooney to play to his best,he must play behind a rvn or anelka, same for tevez.

What is a natural striker?

Rooney is a total footballer who could play superbly in any position on the pitch, with some practice.

Maradona was poor in the air and had no right peg....

Comparing Maradona and Rooney is more deluded than scousers comparing Pennant with Ronaldo.

Rooney has been put through several times on goal and because he doesnt have a left foot, he has cut back costing us goals. Ronaldo and Giggs have put in fantastic crosses with no one in the box. He is playing as a striker and he needs to improve in these areas

Assist is a shit stats to use in football.

I am not comparing Rooney with Maradona, I used Maradona as an example to show how daft your argument was.

Rooney's left peg is no worse than the weaker foot on most good footballers.

Some of the posts in this thread about Rooney, make rawk look sensible at times.

How anyone can claim he isnt world class is beyond me. A bad spell doesnt mean he's past it, not lived upto his potential etc etc etc

Mithun you're a fecking Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime and i really dont see how you can consider yourself a fan of this club.

To put it quite simple, feck OFF elsewhere.

Great players don't go 3 years without scoring a competitive international goal. Most of those games were against shite teams. Infact even average strikers and midfielders score a goal or two in 3 years of competitive internationals

Rooney is a proof that they can go 3 years without...

Instat Karma, do you watch football or just look at the stats after every weekend?

Football's not all about how many goals you score.

It is actually proof that he has a way to go before being labeled as great.
Its easier to look good when playing alongside Ronaldo, Giggs and Scholes. But true greats dont struggle for 3 years against the likes of Andorra or Monaco

They do score against the likes of milan and Roma when your best player goes missing.

I don't know whether he struggled against Andorra - I din't watch that game.

But I've watch 100's of game in which he has played in, and he is a great player.

One of the most talented player I've ever seen wearing the United shirt, and that says it all.

So Rooney is not great anymore because of his off form?

Just to make sure I get the latest news here

Winning in football is about how many goals you score. When your country fails to qualify for a major international tournament from a shite group, its because of goals not being scored. Finishing cant be the weakness of a truly great striker.

Great strikers need to play in good teams which England aren't.

And a player can help a team scoring in other ways than actually scoring the goals himself.

And Rooney only played in half the games for England.

So Gerrard, Joe Cole, Beckham, Owen are not good players

And if England arent a good team, Rooney is responsible for it as well.

They're all good players. Never said they weren't. But still England aren't a good team.

Rooney hasn't played well for England but then nobody has. We can't read too much into this. Because watching Rooney play should be enough to tell you he's a great player.
