Seems like going forward £50m will be the absolute baseline for any good player moving to a top English club. Imagine how much Harry Kane would cost if he moved to another English club. Obviously won't happen, but still.

Before the Neymar transfer it would have been £150m minimum (knowing Levy). After, who knows?

I've never seen him as being that good, but I would only watch Southampton against a top 6 side if it happened to be on Sky/BT.

Seems excessive when the likes of Bailly as potential went for £30m, Bonucci as a ready made talent went for 42m Euros, Harry Maguire was what, £15m?

Liverpool have shot themselves in the foot in one way, they'll never get another Salah-type 'bargain' after jumping into big business like this.

£200m. England or abroad.

An insanely expensive player.

Southampton robbing Liverpool, but I think he’ll be solid for them. I just don’t think he’s anywhere near 50mil plus

75 mil. for a defender wow ! Imagine he turns out to be a flop
Didnt watch any Southampton games so I dont have an opinion on his footballing ability, but I think he will improve liverpools defence. Not sure I'd take him over Smalling or Jones, probably not, I wanted Hummels but that ship sailed long ago.

Liverpool is just about his level, so in that regard it's a nice fit.

I saw some people on the previous pages worrying that this will turn out to be better business for the dippers than Lukaku for us. Really don't know what to say about that - just shaking my head in disbelief reading it.

Comparing those 2 transfer is frankly bizarre.

I thought i had visited the wrong forum for a second there its gone beyond RAWKish in here.

Obscene amount of money but hey ho we spent £80 million on a slightly better version of Emile heskey.

SEVENTY FIVE MILLION? Liverpool fans wanking themselves into a frenzy on twitter as they sign a CB for 75m who isnt the best in his own division.

His attitude leaving both Celtic and Southampton have been appalling, i believe he's just about gone on strike twice now or sulked/phoned it in... say's alot about his Character so what happens when Barca/Real come calling and "turn his head" ?

I don't understand why Klopp didn't just make the defenders they already had better? There's absolutely no need to be spending money like this to compete, right?

Anyway, hope his wankerishness in handling the whole situation (remember the cringey statement?) comes back to bite them soon enough

Seriously you think that? In the summer their will be multiple players going around for £100 million, £300m is the starting point easily could go higher, the value he has to Spurs as a team and brand is ridiculous so anything less than that is a complete loss.

Saying that he will be their for years to come in my opinion

Bit of a panic buy from Liverpool but I guess they didn't have time to wait for good defenders to scout at reasonable prices

He’s never worth £75m but he’s twice as good as their best centre back. Hopefully he does a Lovren.

Liverpool will have a problem because no one is paying this price for him again.

I know the market has exploded since we bought him but it's just mind boggling that VVD will cost nearly £70m more than Azpilicueta who is in my opinion the best defender in the league.

So basically replacing Coutinho with VVD and Keita... and maybe save ~10m.

Not too bad..
edit: I have no idea how good Keita is.

Yes it's a lot of money for a defender but if VVD starts to solve their defensive problems then Liverpool will be a difficult team to beat.

United should back Jose and buy the players he needs in our key weak positions or we'll fall back and play catch-up with the others - simple as that.

I do not think even Chelsea thought Azpi would be this good.

There's also no guarantee he is the same player after that bad injury he had. He's not returned to regular first team football and so they've paid a record fee for a player who may even have lost a yard of pace.

Klopp can't have any excuses now though. He's been well backed and needs to deliver a trophy this season and a title challenge minimum next season.

It's typical of the place.
Before transfer: He's pretty good. He would improve us.

Transfers to rival club: Oh he's rubbish anyway.

They wonder why they haven't won the league in so long. Maybe always buying Southampton players has something to do with it. I seem to remember Jurgen having a strong position on the Pogba fee, wonder what the hypocritical clown will say now.

Now this is a crazy buy but maybe people will reconsider the assertion that Mourinho has been sufficiently backed to win the league.

"Average"?

They may not be world class but they're not average, hence why they don't let in many goals despite playing all the top sides and decent teams in the CL.
Your initial point was implying that our defenders are average too, suggesting that we should invest in centre backs. Our centre backs aren’t average either, and have a good (second best?) record too. No bloody way should we be splashing out £75m on a centre back.

City’s centre backs are no better than ours.

Horrendously expensive for one defender it has to be said. But when you put it alongside Matip who they got for free, Gomez who they paid £3.5m for and Robertson who they paid £10m for, I suppose it gives them a decent defence for what, combined, is a competitive outlay these days. Will be watching with interest.

He's had every player he wanted bar 1
