Viktor Fischer

Fischer can play LW, CAM, and maybe SS, LM.

He originally started as a striker mostly, in that positon he played in the Ajax youth when they destroyed Liverpool and he became top scorer for nextgen that season. He coincidentally also played there against NAC in his first game last week, replaced Sigthorsson. But he started in the first team at LW for sure, has almost always played there for the first team. I don't really see him as a winger though, more as 2nd striker type. But he's fairly versatile.

Found some good form this season and is finally looking like the player everyone hoped for after his arrival on the scenes.

If he carries on at this rate he'll be leaving there by the end of the season. Can see Southampton and Spurs fighting for him in Jan to tie it up.

Agreed. He came back from a long injury and is finally in good form. Not sure if he wants to leave already, but if the right offer comes I would not hold it against him.

Could be an option In january for us... Not cup tied in Europe probably further along the development path than wilson and can provide cover in a number of positions.

Sad days for Dutch footie when the likes of Sothampton, Newcastle are picking the leagues best players.

Can somebody shed some light what kind of injury he had that kept him out for so long?

hamstring injury - had an operation which kept him out for around a year
Injured Feb 2014 - returned to playing March 2015

Thanks. Wonder what kind of hamstring injury keeps you out for a year.

Obligatory YouTube of this season so far to justify why I bumped the thread...

Average talent. Will amount to very little.

I don't think that's from this season.

EDIT: Definitely not this season. He plays in number 7 these days and has just scored five times this season.

Used to be a big fan of this player, was the highest scorer in the NextGen tournament where Ajax lost the final to Internazionale, 10+ goals in his first Eredivisie season at just 18 years old. Him and Eriksen were supposed to be major Danish talents, some even ranked Fischer as the bigger prospect of the two. But he hasn't developed really well since then, partly because of the horrendous fitness issue, to go with his lack of progression and incisiveness.

Now he's 21, and despite a good run of form, he hasn't really made a mark at Ajax just yet. That's a long way removed from someone like say Memphis, who was the best player in the entire league at the same age, or even Eriksen who was Ajax's best player before transferring to Tottenham. Fischer might still do justice to the talent he was supposed to have at 18 or 19, but he must stay at Ajax for atleast another year, and focus on his progression as an individual.

He's not ready for a big move to a club like United just yet, and one wrong transfer could set him back another couple of years if he doesn't get enough game-time. One only needs to look at the likes of Marco Van Ginkel for evidence. A move to club like Southampton in the next year would probably suit him. Koeman is building a good platform there, they have other young players, it would give him a good environment to showcase his talent, and they won't hold him back if he wants to move to a bigger club in the future. Or maybe even a Top 6 Bundesliga club.

Nobody in Holland here makes a big deal out of him. Strange he seems a wonderkid to the foreign fans.
Well I live in Holland to, maybe that's because of the fact that everyone is so critical of everything and everyone at Ajax, players who are playing well, get slammed down to the ground after every bad game. Fischer has been injured for 1.5 years and showed already in his first season that he's a huge talent, now in his comeback he's already picked up serious form, scoring 5 out of 6 from the wing, could even be more. He still has loads of progress to make but the fact that he could go to every club in the world aged 15, was the best of his age group at 18, already international at that time, got seriously injured but now continues where he left from, shows for me that he's a serious talent. I wonder what your standard for average talent is.

A young fancy dribbler with some nice goals = instant talent.
If you're looking for talent in that Ajax squad, Bazoer is the real gem who will make it to a big club in the future.

He isn't one of the best. The very best end up at bigger sides anyway. Memphis and Blind are recent examples, and if the current higher rated players in Bazoer, el Ghazi etc. continue they'll be probably going the same way.

edit: Wijnaldum at Newcastle was a bit of a strange one, to be fair.

I don't believe he will make it at a big club (United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Barca, Real, Bayern), and it would already be a surprise for me if the transfers to one. He could be a good subtop club player.

Haven't you seen his YouTube clips, complete with boy band music in the background. He will clearly win the Ballon at some point.

What he has shown so far.
What could he actually have done far better being realistic? He had an awesome debut season, then struggled (basically every big talent from the Eredivisie has the 2nd season syndrome) in a struggling team, although he was still our most dangerous player basically after match, the goals just werent coming. Then he got seriously injured, when he came back, he was immediately one of the better players at Ajax, scoring goals, creating chances, the season after (this season) he just continues that, scoring (important/good goals), he's productive, has excellent general and link up play and is finding his feet after now actually getting a run due to his fitness. So what would you expect actually from someone who had such an injury? Your entitled to your opinion ofcourse but average talent seems ridiculous to me.

Not that strange, he was seen as a wonderkid by most who knew him before he broke into the first team. Made a huge impression in Europe in the nextgen competition as a youth player. And had a great first season at Ajax also as a 19 year old. The reason he isn't seen as that big a deal anymore in Holland is because of what happened after that.

I think he has the talent, but not sure he can cope mentally. Seems to sometimes cave under the pressure he puts on himself. Let's his frustrations get the better of him. It's odd because he generally puts up this cocky invincible front, but in reality easily looses confidence. Made him extremely frustrating to watch just before his injury. Will be interesting to see how he handles even more pressure in a bigger competition.

He does put a lot of pressure on himself, but that could also make him become a big player. He has the drive to get the best out of him, to try and reach the maximum. He ofcourse knows he's very talented, but that requires hard work as well. The bad patch of form he had was more 2nd season syndrome and Ajax struggling in general I think / hope.

Absolutely. Bazoer is already one of the best players in the current side. Still think it's hilarious that he basically convinced de Boer to take him with the team to the training camp last winter and has not left the side since.

Little update on him, as he's still one of my favourite players. He's getting back slowly to his level, with 10 goals and 4 assists in the first half of the season. Often enough, he's still a bit frustrating as he asks a lot from himself and continuously wants to get involved with a goal or an assist, but to me it's clear that he's class. Some of his finishing, dribbles, touches, technique are just outstanding, as to be seen in the video. He's still a little bit sluggish at times, I think he can get more fit, but when he stays here for another season without injuries, surely he has to be able to make the step to an European Subtopclub in the biggest leagues (Liverpool, Spurs, Schalke, Gladbach, etc)

I'm not impressed by him at all. His stats are deceiving IMO.

I'm at a loss with the Dutch league these days, the way Depay has performed and how the likes of the Luke De Jong failed, has put me off.

The decline of their national team must also be connected to a drop in standard as well.

We should stay well clear from the eredivisie for the time being, like you say im not happy with how a lot of their talents in recent years have adapted to higher levels of competition.

@Sammyjunn Have you watched Ajax this season, what do you think of Gudelj?
I know Gudelj from AZ and Nac Brede, he is a good and hard player with a fantastic right foot, hear at Ajax, I expected a little more of him, because last season he was one of the best midfielders in the league. But he brings some much needed power, aggression, height, directness to the team and has 5 goals and 5 assists. I think the best is still to come from him, as he sometimes looks a bit out of place in terms of positional intelligence, and in the tightest areas.

Just tapping up their talents at 16 like we did with Fosu-Mensah would be cool.

For talents from Ajax academy, really looking forward to how Bazoer (already an important first team player for them),Nouri and Van der Beek will make the step up.I'd say that Ajax players somehow seem to adapt to the PL better than other Dutch clubs (generally).
