Victor Osimhen | out of options | goes to Gala on loan

I'm not seeing him as a future world class striker, not yet. Certainly not based off what he's done in Italy so far.
I've seen him since his U17 days for Nigeria, he did very well in France and is rated very highly in Italy. I wouldn't want him coming here if Ole or Mourinho was united manager but under Ten Hag he is perfect to lead the press, has all the qualities to fit into the EPL and he will score goals as well.
He won't be the finished product from day 1 but he'll grow and I think quickly under Ten Hag.

Think that’s his opinion, he wasn’t certain we’d get Antony in.

I’m hopeful we’ll get a striker in and that’ll be it, but won’t be surprised if we do nothing. Guess it all depends on Ronaldo

Hes tier 1 though isnt he? Very reliable according to many on here.

Glazers dont want to sell ronaldo, so he qont go, despite mendes best efforts.

Absolutely this. Guy is good and i would welcome his signing especially that he seems as ETH's type of forward but nothing screams world class or potential world class around him.
The fact that Napoli overpayed him is their problem. At current market 40-50 mil euros would be his realistic price and i would not mind us paying that. 80 mil-100 mil? Come on

This is a market where players like Nunez and Antony have been signed for up to €100m. There's not the slightest chance in hell that Osimhen is only worth half that. €40-50m is the sort of bid Everton have already rejected for a player like Anthony Gordon.

Napoli went nuts and paid 75M for him, he hasnt even reached 20 goals per season. His best being last season with 18 goals (14 in serie A). I'd say even the 75M Napoli paid for him is way too much.

All this considering he's playing in a league where Arnautovic scored 14 goals and Tammy Abraham 17 goals, and god damn Ciro Immobile 27 goals.

This isn't strictly true - look at the other side of the deal and the players that went the other way. Napoli sent them a back-up goalkeeper and 3 youth team players that supposedly made up €20m of the total transfer value, which depending on who you believe (Lille president or Napoli president) was either €68m or €70m + €10m.

Evidently this seems to have been some sort of effort to cook the books probably on Lille's side, as all 3 of these youth players never played for Lille and were immediately loaned to a Serie C side I believe before they had their contracts terminated. One of them was interviewed and said he had literally never even set foot in Lille.

The reality seems to be that Napoli probably paid around €40-50m for him. They could more than afford to sell him for cheaper than the quoted price, though I'm not sure whether them doing so would trigger some sort of new investigation into the original deal. The problem mainly seems to be centered around De Laurentiis having ridiculous valuations of his own players, like when he wanted more than €110m for Koulibaly back in the day.

I agree, but this bloke isn't anything special yet. Doesn't mean every tom dick or harry should be going for 100m.

The ideal situation for us would be something like they get Ronaldo we get Osimhen on loan for a year with an Option to buy if things work out.

Not sure I could see Napoli going for that though.

He's no less special than Nunez and Antony who went for comparable prices. And a player like Alexander Isak just landed at Newcastle for €70m. €100m for Osimhen in this market isn't even remotely unreasonable.

The issue is that some of the figures quoted for him have been a lot higher than that.

Can't see a way this happens. He's not going cheap and we have just splurged massively on Antony and Casemiro. Even if Ronaldo leaves, I don't see how we could buy this lad. Napoli will want a fortune for him.

I appreciate the efforts to keep muppeting through to the very end though!

This thread:

- he’s shit
- he’s good
- he’s shit
- he’s good

:wenger:
I would say opposite. Regarding this player opinion is pretty much similiar among fans. He is good. Period.
Nobody sees him as world class but also nobody says that he is average or shit

He's exactly the sort of striker we should be targeting to compliment what we have in the team, he's got pace, strenght, power and very good hold up play and an okay link up play.

I'm sure Hag wants a target man to link up play and occupy the opposition Central backs, which would help our wide fowards to build and create things with our midfield.

If we can't get him this window we should try in winter or next summer.

We just spent 200m, we surely don't have another 130m. If anything else happens this summer, it will likely be a loan or a free transfer (Depay?)

Forget him for now and let them pay for Ronaldo. Try to get Depay for free.

Dude has bags of pace, good size but he's a less than accomplished finisher for that sort of money

I mean he's in the 95th percentile of xG among forwards in the top five leagues and scores at a higher rate than his expected goals so that's just not true. If you're underwhelmed by how many goals he's scoring per season, you're probably not looking at his minutes played. The last time Harry Kane scored more than 20 league goals, he had played over 1000 more minutes than Osimhen did in his last two seasons.

true...i didn't look at minutes played per goal scored. He just really reminds me of guys we've had in the past like Bellion, Bebe even Welbeck type of long and lanky striker. Not a guy like Saha or Ruud.

You don't think it's a bit worrying that the only big team he's ever scored against is Chelsea? Out of all his matches against the top 6 in Serie A, he's only scored once, and that was against Lazio. Rest of his goals are against the likes of Bologna, Verona etc. Even Napoli fans don't mind if he leaves if you check their forum. Many say he's clumsy and a lot of his goals are very lucky. He's certainly not better than Lukaku.

I can't see this happening at this stage of the window, but Osimhem is the correct profile of centre forward that ten Hag would like imo. He has the physicality and work rate to help enhance the system with and without the ball. He can run in behind or can be used as the target man and is aerially a threat.

His first touch looks as bad, if not worse, than Lukaku’s.

Looks like a beast though and far better than what we’ve got.

Apparently, it is a loan deal with commitment to buy next summer and Ronaldo going the other direction. I think it is good deal but we should insert clauses:
If he scores 30+ goals, Napoli get 100m
If he scores 20-30 goals, Napoli get 80m
If he scores 10-20 goals, it is 40m
Less than 10 goals, he goes back.
