We’ve spent a ton of cash this window, next summer could be really quiet. Fans seem to think it will be another big outlay …we get 4th and the Glazers historically will turn off those taps!

You forget the bit where they end up selling and leave the club (the team) in better nick than expected, sweetening a potential deal. I'm hoping anyway.

The team in better nick but the club a further 100m in debt..the books will prob show 600m/700m in debt as our cash bal was 50m afew months ago before we spent 200m.

I think for a potential buyer that means absolutely nothing if the team is already qualifying for the CL and playing great football under ETH. Which is easier when you have a decent XI that's balanced and no Ronaldo stinking up the place.

This clearly wont be happening now we've got Antony right? Not that i was convinced it would anyway.

 Fair enough

It has to, otherwise I would be just a stubborn a-hole. I will admit I didn't expect Antony to happen after the last rejection. Even more convinced Osimhen and De Jong (or anybody else) won't happen after we paid this much for Antony but very happy we signed at least somebody of quality.

In another news - if Ronaldo leaves and considering Martial injury record + how unreliable he is even when not injured, we are seriously f..ed striker-wise? Not sure why a striker wasn't a priority instead of a winger, but - happy it is at least something.

It’s basically creation vs. finishing. We chose to get a winger to help with overall play and chance creation. Also the striker market was sort of terrible this summer.

Also I think people really forget the impact of the Greenwood situation on the squad. It’s difficult to have a 100m + level striker prospect just removed from the squad without anything in return. Any club would struggle to replace that quickly.

I think there is a decent chance this happens on deadline day.

-Napoli love Ronaldo. They won’t be able to get him nxt summer.
-We need a replacement No. 9 anyway. He really fits the bill in terms of what ETH wants from a striker

Loan for Ronaldo. Loan for obligation to buy for us. I think if Napoli decide to pay his wages (and he takes a cut) and we can agree a fee anywhere in the range of 90-100 M euros, then it’s ON.

Got a good leap and abilty to head the ball, lot of headed goals in some of the videos in this thread, don't remember when we last had a striker capable of that, I know Ronaldo should be and got some last year but feels like ages since any of our strikers could head the ball in or is it just me? Maybe Zlatan did a few, who before that? Even having trouble remembering what strikers we've had since RvP and Rooney, probably because it has been rather dire up front and I remember a time where Fellaini was up front and heading balls but never scoring.

anyway, I got a bit derailed there, Antony should be able to pass some crosses for this guy to head in. However I don't see this happening with that price tag, not this summer.

Interesting take. Thank you.

There were more affordable, but decent, strikers linked to us that would improve us much more than playing Rashford as a striker, but yes - as far as world-class, 100M strikers, market for us was very bad. I think club, and maybe even EtH, over-relied on "we have Ronaldo for one more year". Once they realized they may not have him–it was too late and they don't want to spend the kindof money they would need now. Also our recruitement is shambolic, and EtH personally only had Nunez in mind, which we didn't get.

Don’t think this will happen, unless as others have already said, it’s a loan with buy obligation ala M’Bappe to P$G.

Are people so desperate to push Ronaldo out that they will believe anything in the media? Its obvious that this is another nothing story made up by the media because they are unable to get any news. They just linked Ronaldo with Napoli simply because we were interested in a striker and Osimhen seems to fit the profile we were looking at.

I think that will be the case happen tbh. This guy doesn’t start if Ronaldo goes there, and with an obligation to buy next season they still get a silly fee for him as opposed to what they would if he spends a year on the bench.

Atm this looks the most likely route to me, with the other option being he stays.

Not a huge fan. He’s not a cert anyway IMO, but at the same time, there’s enough there that he could just as easily become a top class centre forward.

Are we really expected to offer 100m plus Ronaldo on a loan with Salaries paid ? That would be 120m of a deal. That sounds crazy reckless

Di Marzio’s from Naples so I’m sure he’d be undisputed number one source on anything happening.

I’m not sure how this exchanging of Ronaldo and Osimhen would mutually benefit both teams. It seems like we’re getting a MUCH better deal than Napoli if that happened.

We’d be paying them 100m plus also paying some of Ronaldo wages. How would we be getting the better deal?

Not sure about that. It’s us paying €100M and paying Ronaldo’s full salary. How is that getting the much better deal?

That rumour that we could conceivably get Osimhen on loan with an obligation buy a la Mbappe Monaco-PSG deal, makes a deal like this realistic

Ya if Mendes is really pushing to get Ronaldo to Napoli this is what would probably happen. Something like, Ronaldo+75% of his wages+10m loan fee for Osimhen

I guess I am missing something but he doesn't even look good in Youtube highlights which is quite an achievement.

Well, in terms of present and potential future output, there is no way Antony is better than Osimhen? I dare to say, that 90-100m tag on Antony is a silly joke until he becomes the new Ronaldo. On the other hand, Osimhen has both the physical and the technical attributes to lead any attacking line in an energetic way, and he can score for fun.
Silly logic. The likes of Fofana, Antony and Nunez cannot be expected to become among the top 10 footballers in the sports history just because they cost a lot. The club's are rich and know / accept they overpaid for players they thought they really need.

And if he can do that why isn't Osimhen scoring for fun right now (or this past season)? Decent goal record but you cant exactly call it special.

Didn’t know it was a loan and we’re paying his wages too. I thought we were selling him outright and offsetting it against Osimhen. In that case, its the other way round.

That better not be your best arrangement Mendes. Tell Napoli to stop being so poor and cough the majority of the wages.

Napoli needs money I think. They have been in financial struggle these past couple years. Last summer they only bought/paid transfer fee for one player.

This summer they have been losing (Insigne, Merten) and selling key players (Koulibaly, and now Fabian Ruiz is on the verge of joining PSG). A decent profit for Osimhen while short term replacing him with Ronaldo would keep their fan happy while staying competitive enough (?)

If we get him, pretty sure we have a good team to actually finish 2nd or 3rd. Problem is , we won't spend a penny next year given this would be a loan and we already have spent 200m this year.

The problem is there’s a lack of shortage of good strikers currently, Real still rely on Benzema , Barca settled for 34 year old Lewndowski, Liverpool paid over the odds for Nunez.

Teams that have even half decent strikers at a young age are in a strong position, and are entitled to name their price. Utd obviously didn’t factor in Greenwood being a complete a*s so it’s going to cost 100m to get someone in.

So there's loads of of good strikers currently?

How is this bit relevant?

What if the Glazers saved all the dividends for this moment, as a post-Covid pick-me-up for the fans?

How's that not relevant ? If it's a loan with obligation, we end up paying that next year.
Ah.. right.. I read that wrong and thought you were talking about Ronaldo going over on a loan..
I hadnt heard anything about Osimhen being a loan with buy obligation .. I thought we were supposedly buying him this summer and sending Ronaldo on loan..

I reach a point of hating Glazer such as if they even paid 200M on a player (if the player is fitting what ETH needs) then I would ignore the cost.I would not care at all. Its about choosing whether the money goes to Glazers pocket or to trying to strengthen our team.

Much better ways of spunking daft money to be fair. It would be a baffling signing. It's not like he's some superstar either. Think its typical Napoli bollocks.
