Weak as piss for their goal.
Weak as piss for their goal.
Last season Calvert -Lewis had an average of winning 6.4 aerial duels per 90 minutes so a little below average today. He won 6 and lost 5. I think he won 3 aerials against Lindelof and 2 against Maguire but could be wrong. In the end he lost the match.Calvert-Lewin was pulling onto him all game and winning the ball just about every time. Calvert-Lewin 6 aerial duels won, Lindelof 1
Had a tough first half. Don’t blame him too much for the goal as DCL is one of the strongest PL players in the air. Second half was quite good imo and he had some important clearances and interceptions. 6/10.
(Can question the strategy a little at the goal. Everybody knows Pickford often hit long balls to DCL, who will target Lindelof and not Maguire. Why not let one midfielder assist or let Maguire be prepared for that long ball?)

I'm enjoying the victory plenty, I just didn't enjoy Lindelof's performance and I'll voice that in this thread. I'm sick of giving these players free pass after free pass, it was a pathetic goal to give away. He was bullied by Calvert-Lewin who didn't even play particularly well.Yeah but ok for the rest of the game. Think people need to start enjoying victories, rather than picking the feck out of whom ever is the kicking boy for that moment. Some need to try and show some support rather than just being negative no matter the score.
Not sure what you’re what you’re laughing at. Those were the stats.
Victor’s weakness is in the air, he’s about PL centre back average there. Calvert-Lewin is very strong in the air and there are not many in the PL who win more aerials than him. Anybody who has watched Everton knows that. In the end him winning an aerial vs Lindelof and AWB failing to cover cost a goal. But that’s all they got. 1-3 and a win.He was playing for the worse team. Imagine if Martial put in his performance today for Everton, he'd have been on the losing team for sure
This was very strange. Especially for the goal where there would be plenty of time for that. Was always going to struggle aerially vs DCL so it wasn't surprising to see them focus on him with their balls forward. However I would've expected us to be more aware of them using that tactic and doing more to help Lindelof and win the second ball or putting someone in front of DCL to make things harder for him, especially as McTominay was on that side and would've been a better physical match.
Outside of that though he was good, read the play well a few times covering for others and was good on the ball for the most part.

Not really surprising he was targeted in the air .
Your comment was literally a free pass. "Yeah but he was ok for the rest of the game" is what you wrote. What free passes are our players getting? Pray tell as it’s constant picking and moaning by a lot of people.

But it wasn't just a single error, Calvert-Lewin was getting the best of him all afternoon.Oh ok then, none of our players should make a single error in any game, otherwise they should be harshly criticised for an extended period and no mention of any atonement.

But that’s just it though, I didn’t think it was a particularly good performance. He was kept mostly quiet because of Maguire, he wasn’t even that quiet considering he played a big part in their goal.Calvert-Lewin has and will continue to bully elite central defenders in the air. Seems a strange reason to be very critical of what was overall quite a good performance. Especially when Calvert-Lewin was generally kept very quiet, despite being almost unplayable in most of Everton’s games so far this season.

I don’t really share that view. Except for the goal, can’t remember if they got any other goal scoring opportunity from Lindelof losing a header. It’s not like the Everton central defence that conceded two goals unchallenged in the air. In the end they got 1 shot on target so not too successful attack. They got plenty, Calvert-Lewin winning the ball in the air was the start of most of their attacks.
I’m not sure where you get your stats from? Lindeof lost 3 aerials, not 6.You can't win all of them, but you can win more than 1 out 7 and for the other 6 you can make him uncomfortable and unable to link up with teammates by not getting a free header. He even managed to head the ball down to himself and get on the end of it
