Lindelof might be the biggest fraud I have ever seen. I wonder what convinced Mourinho to splash out 30m on a defender that is the exact opposite of a Mourinho defender. He's weak in the air and timid with his tackles. Even his ball playing skills is become overrated. Unfortunately he has give a worse performance than Bailly v Brighton to go back on the bench. He need to be sold because clearly he's Championship level playing for one of the biggest clubs in world football.

Championship level is right. The only other PL team this guy would walk into is fecking Cardiff

He just hasnt got to grips with the premier league at all and at this point we're babying him with the Fellaini 3rd CB thing.

I think he's had his chances now. In hindsight he should have gone out on loan as rumored to a premier league team and shown that he can hack it before getting another chance.

He has reminded me of Johnny Evans since he arrived, but I'm willing to say that it was unfair on Evans. While Lindelof has the same lack of physicality, Evans read the game better and coped better with positioning and defending. A very disappointing CB signing for us.

Jose will make up for that by setting us defensively.

Also Lindelof might not be what we needed right now but surely he will improve, further when played regularly. He us just 22-23. We gave Jones so many years, Lindelof will prove to be better than him i feel.

Jones was a far better player at 21 than Lindelof is at 20 than Lindelof is now.....sadly he was also a far better player at 20 than what he is now at 26, gone backwards. I really thought he and Micah Richards could become world class....they both pretty much peaked in there teens.

I think lot of fans need to not look through rose tinted spectacles supporting our club either. The simple fact is we have made so many signings that are not good enough, every single manager since Ferguson. Seeing us line up sometimes with a spine including Lindelof, Fellaini and Lukaku is soul destroying, three players in three different positions but all of them lack hugely an apsect of natural ability in there game and personally dont deserve to wear our shirt. There are quite few others too that dont fit our side or just arent consistantly performing to the ability they do have as well, but those three in particular I cant believe are playing regularly and in the case of Lukaku seems to be popular as well?

Everything we bought him for Blind could do and more, and proved so in a brilliant partnership with our still first choice CB in Smalling. Selling him is just seeming more and more absurd by the game.

We gotta stop buying shit players. That's the main reason we're in this in the first place. I have seen nothing to suggest that Lindelof is good enough for the Premier league let alone Man United.

Mourinho's treatment of Blind was disgraceful!

Completely agree with this - Daley and Smalling was the best defensive pairing post-Fergie, yet Mourinho binned him because he was a Van Gaal player. Moronic.

Lindelof is an Ikea Alderweireld who’s agent has absolutely had United’s pants down.

He sold Blind for absolutely no reason - he was actually defensively the reason we won the Europa & just binned him after everyone came back from Injury.

Players are good & yet they will be binned for random reasons such as work rate or mentality or just being different to him. Lindelöf then replaced him doing a worse job.

People were likewise fooled in to thinking that Perisic was wanted to play LWB whilst Martial plays as a striker - he was bought in to purely drop Martial because he is just not a Jose player like Blind was.

What happens when perisic doesn't come? Sanchez becomes available and drops Martial in arguably his best form. If Sanchez did well here Martial would be out.

Whilst every manager has favorites & a type of football - the fact that he was willing to get rid of Blind & Martial - shows to me that he prioritises strength & height & physical tenacity more so than pure technical ability & intelligence.

This. Alexander Buttner had more balls than this Swedish charlatan

Literally a liability. We're not playing with 11 effective men when he's playing because we have to play Fellaini to actually do his job. Quite sad

I’m Lindelöf’s biggest critic, and fully advocated he was sold in the summer. That said, I think he had one of his better games today.

Lindelof was getting frustrated because there was no movement up in front of him. He was waving his arms about it many times. The midfielders were alright but the attackers need to make that space for the midfield players to receive the ball in a good attacking area. This whole thing stinks. I agree about Blind. Blind at CB or even at LB creates a lot of chances. Yes, he is slow but his passing and his vision is among the top players. I still think Lindelof will come good.

Agree 100%. He’s virtually a passenger and just about the only thing he can do is a half decent pass. He can’t tackle, can’t head and nobody will fancy his chances in a 50/50. Completely underwhelming player who I don’t think is anywhere near epl quality. Why he is starting ahead of Bailey is beyond me. While Smalling may be clumsy on the ball, at least the guy can defend and dominate the striker.

Had nothing to do with him being an LVG player. Blind simply was too small and slow for a centre back under Mourinho, which was obvious as soon as we hired him. That's a problem in itself if (seeing as all his preferred options have ended up being worse), but it wasn't as bad as holding Blind back because of who bought him.

Blind is on another planet to Lindelof. He mucked in, genuinely defended well and was actually good with the ball. It was one thing that Van Gaal got right.

This bloke is shocking at defending and it was visible from his very first pre-season. You know a proper defender when you see one (or at least you should). Lindelof needs binned while we can still make some money back.

Car crash signing.

You are blaming the wrong person for yesterdays result. He actually had a decent game yesterday and he wasn’t to blame for the goal. He also wasn’t to blame for our poor attack and hoofball tactics in the last 20 minutes.

I’m not blaming him. I’m popping in to say how shite he is.

He could have been better positioned when the cross came to the centre of the goal.

He also made a lot of on the spot decision which were lucky to not directly be manipulated by the opposition - that does not mean it is a good match. We consistently look shaky when the ball comes in to our half & that's because of Lindelöf's inability to head properly, be adequately positioned & to deal with an attacker with an initiating tackle. He sits back, he gets turn around, he looses control of the ball and so much more.

A good performance is not when his mistakes does not get utilized. The only thing he is decent at is hoofing the ball out for a clearance - not even to initiate attacks.

Mourinho's treatment of Blind was disgraceful!
It was inevitable, though, wasn't it? You know, with his physique. Still, after an impressive season prior, he could've gave the Smalling-Blind combo a run. I don't think they played together once. Unless it was in a 3, that was.

I'd say they were our best since Rio-Vidic for sure. They complimented eachother superbly.
He sold Blind for absolutely no reason - he was actually defensively the reason we won the Europa & just binned him after everyone came back from Injury.
He was my MOTM in the final. Against Ajax, it was one of the few times under José we looked amazing defensively and Blind was at the forefront of that.

Can't disagree with any of that.

Completely agree. Not only was Blind a much better defender (even against big CFs he used his intelligence to stay one step ahead of them so his physique was never really an issue), he was also twice the player on the ball Lindelof is. He was just better at everything, really.

Also, @The holy trinity 68 no one blames Lindelof for the result. It's just, to me anyway, a pain watching him start alongside Smalling when we had a player who was not only better, but had a proven understanding with Smalling yet was never given the chance to play alongside him for a run despite it being our best CB combo in yonks.

He seems pretty pointless at this moment. His strength is supposedly his passing ability but it seems that Smalling tries (and even succeeds at!) more ambitious passes than him, except for a few long balls up to Lukaku that rarely find their target anyway. Seen small glimpses of his ability here and there to play out the ball under pressure but they've been too few and far between.

We don't have Blind anymore so I wouldn't get rid yet. Hopefully our next manager is actually good at getting the team to play proactive football and we'll start to see the Lindelof we were supposed to get (same goes for about half our team tbh).

I've given Lindelof a year plus now to settle in and I too think Daley Blind is a better player.

Blind also has more experience, which is apparently what we need.

Not sure what the hell happened with Blind.

He was supposed to be a Rio Ferdinand type of defender when we signed him. He looks like a nervous wreck at the back. He’s had over a year to adapt and it just simply isn’t working.

We drew the game because the attack was shite and is shite on a regular basis. We didn’t draw because the defence was poor. If we actually attacked instead of just hoofing it into the box for the last 20 minutes then we may ha e won.

Anyone who's blaming him for anything yesterday clearly didn't watch the game or had all that stuff prepared prior to the game.

Yup, remember when he made Dos Santos look like Messi. I dont rate him and the bedding in period is long over. 30m down the drain at this point, i hope we find a club that is willing to pay half of that for him. That is not based on yesterdays game, but he never has an outstanding game. He is moving between shocking and ok (he hasnt made a big mistake that cost us) for the most part.

100% agree.
Today he was "alright", couple of lapses, but no giveaways like other games.

Just don't see it with him In the slightest.
You can't carry a guy so physically weak. Didn't really like it with Evans, don't like it with him.

It's why we're seeing us having to play a big centre mid so deep in front of the centre backs, or in some cases, two!
Yeah, I've seen a few match goers say that you can see Fellaini is practically babysitting him, he's there to make up for his lack of physicality and weakness in the air, which means we are sacrificing a proper #6 to cover the cracks at CB, which is far from ideal.

The thing in Lindelof's favour right now is simply that Jones is a perma crock, Rojo would have been sold to Everton in the summer if not for wages, so Jose clearly doesn't want him, and something has happened that has seen Bailly virtually frozen out, so he's getting in by default at the moment.

That slide tackle against Madrid was hilarious. I remember people defending him saying he’ll improve.

You wonder why we don't just cut out the middle man and play Fellaini AT centre back, especially in the home games to mid and lower leaguers.

He's good at simple passing, no worse than Lindelöf, and way better in the air. Smalling can do the pacey tidying up work, so I wonder what we'd actually lose. We'd gain actually having a midfielder in there with more to his game.

I'm with you on this one. I posted before that I don't see him being here long term but I genuinely can't see what he did wrong yesterday.

Funnily enough my Dad was just saying this, this afternoon, might as well just plat Fellaini as a CB and be done with it, that way we would be able to use Fred or Pereira instead of benching them as soon as Matic suspension is up.

I dunno, I could show you the lad that Sir Alex Ferguson thought would be the greatest Man United player ever if you're looking for frauds in the centre-back department.

It makes sense doesn't it.
Especially against a lot of the teams who will have one up front at best, and won't make too many attempts to get men forward.
Otherwise, we're in effect using a holding midfielder or two, Matic, and Fellaini, just to cover a centre back.

It's Man Utd. We shouldn't have to be covering players at this level.

Never felt too comfortable with Blind, and I remember other posters constantly picking holes in his positioning.

However, I remember him seeing off bigger and faster opponents, and never really let us down. Lindelöf has far more gaffes in his catalogue already.

Having said that, neither are what United centre backs should be about.

He is fecking shocking, lets stop pussy footing around and call him what he is. He is the anti-thesis of a CB. Anything you expect from a top class CB, Lindelöf lacks.

Imagine him 'holding the fort' against City or Liverpool. They'd literally eat him alive. He's not good enough and was a shocking purchase. Terrible CB.

Stick Bailly back in. He's a liability but at least he can stand up for himself and give it some. That is the very least I expect from a CB at this level. (FYI - Used to be a GK to a fairly high level. I know a good CB when I see one)>

Absolutely nailed it. Whoever, scouted this guy should be fired. One of the worst CB's I have ever seen play at UTD

The really weird thing about this is that we pursued him for at least six months, possibly longer. He wasn't a late panic buy or anything. What was seen in him?

That slide tackle against Madrid was hilarious. I remember people defending him saying he’ll improve.
Well he's improved. Has he done that slide tackle again? Good thing about Lindelof is that he has hardly made the same mistake twice since joining. He is learning, he is improving.

Let the ball drop all game long, could head the ball. Lost it in bad positions couple of times and worst of all his positioning on Wolves goal was comical. The player who passed the ball was at the touchline and he followed him down into the keepers space. There was only one pass for him to play and Lindelöf should have blocked that or at least been in the position to have a chance of blocking it.

I have given him all the time I will give him, he isnt good enough to play for United and will never be. At least Bailly gives you presence, even if he has no positional sense. Get Jones back in, at least his defending isn't funny just plain bad.
