We were apparantly going to concede loads with Fellaini not there to babysit him imfao
You must have missed the combination of awful finishing from them and De Gea’s saves. He was out of position more than a few times. He got beaten in the air with ease in the box and generally didn’t do much apart from a good forward pass to Martial. I love how the bar is so low now, that’s considered anything other than a bang average performance.

Been considering carefully what my final post of the day will be (newbie limit). Well it has to be this fella, big, big improvement. But I've called it from day one, he has the talent.

People need to slow down on calling people terrible failures. Players and teams go through ups and downs in form and were finally seeing some good positive form from United as a whole, through a change in tactics and attitude. Now we're seeing great form from a number of our players as a result. We have a great squad and all we needed was the right tactics and mentality to get some good results and performances going our way. Long may it continue.

Him winning the ball in the air is FAR less important than his positioning and what he does with the ball when he has it. Neither of those is perfect by any means but you can see the potential. I'll give him time yet.

It's actually quite important in premier league to be good in the air tbh.

Not anywhere near as important as it used to be. Particularly if you have a partner who's decent in the air. Anyway, I just mean Rojo can head the ball, big Phil can head the ball, it's something else that's needed to change our dynamic in that area.

Actually Jones is shite when it comes to headers.

I'm not saying it should be the only thing to asses defenders on but it certainly helps if he can.

It's like the opposition are not allowed to create chances.

Played well today to his credit. It’s an area of the pitch where we could use improvement, but he’s gotten the ‘plus one’ in the ‘Smalling Plus One’ for now.

Can't believe people are giving him stick for being beaten in the air once by a guy whos 6 ft 4 and built like a brickhouse. Was good today.

And that all the chances were due to Lindelof

It used to be Smalling in that unenviable position. Every chance we'd concede was 'cause of Smalling even down to explaining other players' feck ups; "No wonder Jones fecked up there when he has Smalling next to him creating panic in the defence with his shit passing technique" and other such gems. Now it's Lindelof.

You can not like or rate a player and still acknowledge when they have a decent game. I don't know what people's problem is with this.

Not making a howler in a game is considered a solid game by Lindelof's standards.

But, last night he had some moments that I liked where he took some initiative when defending and was more aggressive and came out on top, together with some good interceptions. He had one or two shaky moments again, but as we know it is expected with him. Getting beat in the air by a monster like Hoarau I won't hold against him, but both him and Smalling had a similar game to be honest, and were left exposed by the midfield couple of times.

Another decent game. He needs a bit more assertiveness and you can tell he's still not always sure what Smalling next to him will do, but that will come with time. It's just nice to have a defender who doesn't treat the ball like a hot potato.

He was average. Didn't do a lot wrong, didn't do anything outstanding.

Totally agree. Dont understand all the credit he is getting for a game we didnt conced against very average opposition? Although he is ok on the ball his reading of the game on following runs, defending crosses, physically.....personally will never be there.

AFTER we signed Dalot so many fans were still bemoaning us not signing full backs when (yes its only one game) we had just signed apparently one of the best young players in Europe on also had a very talented English pretty young left back that needed the chance of a run of games as well as two experienced players who have done a good job at full back.

Watching us so far this season, it is really apparent to me, the failure to bring in a top class centre back is going to cost us lots of points this season and in the champions league will be very costly against quality opposition. Lindelof isnt and never will be what we need.

That forward passes to Martial and Lukaku was the highlight of his game. More of those in our general play please. Whenever he comes out with the ball he looks confident enough but he doesn't do it often which he should be instructed to do more often by new coaching team. Just needs to be more aggressive while Bailly needs to tone down a bit.

Jose will make up for that by setting us defensively.

Also Lindelof might not be what we needed right now but surely he will improve, further when played regularly. He us just 22-23. We gave Jones so many years, Lindelof will prove to be better than him i feel.

Having seen the disaster that was Prunier and Mal Donkey at centre back, one can happily tell you that Lindelof is a world beater in comparison. However, that doesn't put him up with the best I've seen either. Apart from his early games, I've not had a problem with him to much to be honest. Last night for me he was better than Smalling. Ignore the commentators, who all have a thing against United centre backs right now, any mistake and they bring up the fact that Jose seemingly wanted a new CB in the summer, he only had one moment where he was beaten and that was the header against a giant that even the likes of Rio, Vida and Stam would have struggled against. He kept them quiet for most of the game and helped cover the left with Shaw when Martial didn't track back.

I remember suggesting during the period after we Schmeichel left us, that any keeper we had was being compared to probably the greatest ever, and would never come close to it. Any mistake from Howard, Carroll or Barthez and we bemoaned them. I do think we (the fans) contributed to the loss of form and confidence of all 3 of them, as we didn't give them a chance. I can see similar traits happening with our centre backs now, after what was nearly 30 years of great centre back partnerships, starting with Bruce and Pallister. I'm no Smalling fan, but over the past few games even he has been decent, the partnership he's building with Lindelof is similar to that of the one he had with Blind, which was his best season he's ever had with us.

Man Utd 1:1 Wolves
Off to the championship with this lad, he's useless.

He can't head a simple ball (or judge when the jump) and for a supposed ''balling playing'' CB, he can't pass very well nor does he look like he wants the ball.

On the 90-91st minute Traore had a shot that hit De Gea's leg (or post?), it came straight out to Lindelof 10 yards away from goal. No white shirts anywhere fecking near him, several red shirts and instead of picking out a simple pass he fecking hoofs it in between their two center halves.

He's agent deserves a fecking noble prize for getting him to United.

Every time I watch him he just infuriates me, he has nothing, in terms of quality. Nothing. He’s probably the worse centre back in the league. Positionally awful. Tackling awful. Passing awful. Reading of the game awful. Strength awful. Just get shut and play any of our other centre backs instead of him.

He's probably the most pointless defender we have ever had.

He does nothing, defensively he's a liability, and doesn't create loads to justify playing him.

He'll be sold in summer for a mediocre club outside England.

Wtf are people complaining about? He didn't do much wrong today. It's the other end of the pitch that cost us.

What game were you watching? He was awful in every aspect of defending.

Also no one here blamed him for our loss like you're trying to dispute. We're just all agreeing that he's just shit.

It was Shaw who hoofed it after Lindelöfs touch.

He's simply at a club above his level. Never seen a United CB that needs so much help and saving from his team-mates. I had such high hopes for him but now I can't see him having a good career with us.

Most passive defender ever. Just backs off and waits for others to attack the ball. When he does go in for duel he loses it. Absolutely spineless.

Didnt see the game but the replies in here don't surprise me. I've said before we need to cut our losses with him.

We need to get a good commanding defender in to replace him.

He's so physically lacking in the PL for a CB, he wasn't bad today in truth and maybe it's just me but I never feel he looks confident or comfortable.

How is it far less important? It is Premier League mate, even the last game he lost a header and we could have been 1 nil down, today we were in control and he did well but he didn't have to do anything but we are hardly a Pep team which is 90% of times on the front foot and doesn't need to deal with those balls. He has to do better to get a regular place in our team but I will give him pass for today's game

Lindelof might be the biggest fraud I have ever seen. I wonder what convinced Mourinho to splash out 30m on a defender that is the exact opposite of a Mourinho defender. He's weak in the air and timid with his tackles. Even his ball playing skills is become overrated. Unfortunately he has give a worse performance than Bailly v Brighton to go back on the bench. He need to be sold because clearly he's Championship level playing for one of the biggest clubs in world football.

100% agree.
Today he was "alright", couple of lapses, but no giveaways like other games.

Just don't see it with him In the slightest.
You can't carry a guy so physically weak. Didn't really like it with Evans, don't like it with him.

It's why we're seeing us having to play a big centre mid so deep in front of the centre backs, or in some cases, two!

In fairness, in that situation, 5 yards out from your own goal, it'd be quite an unnaturally composed defender not to clear it!!

Thought Lindelof was good today, no idea how people see it so differently.

This lad can't never win. I don't see anything wrong with him, as there's different ways to play football including defending. Bailly might be a fans fav but he's rash and costs us goals. I'm not saying he's the answer but I'd take him over the ones that aren't playing at the moment. Since the start of the season, I haven't seen his defending costs us a goal so what the feck do people want? If Sanchez, Lingard, Martial, Rashford or Rom did their job, we wouldnt have to constantly be looking at Lindelof as this years Fellaini, a easy dog to kick....

I'd agree if there was a threat near him but there was no pressure on him at all. He even turned, looked up, then hoofed it. You could go to a Sunday League match and see a defender with more awareness.
